It is unofficial because there wasn't an offical recording of the venue. All the footage you see is shot by the audience. TG25 stands for "The Gathering 25 years". The show features all the 4 singers from over the years and offcourse Anneke is the most famous one. BTW Doornroosje is Dutch for Sleeping Beauty.
A wish to "Travel" back in time to tell Mozart that his music would live forever. I love the use of the pedal tone on the guitar in the ending section. It give a trance like affect to the song. Very meditative. Not Devin. He and the others were all former singers of The Gathering. A 25th anniversary show for the band. Happy New Year my friend.🥂
I love that the TG25 videos are made by a collaberation of 25 or so fans, hence unofficial. I recently spoke with a guy who attended this concert: after hunderds of concerts he still still considers this the best he ever attended. Hundreds of people from all over the world, Mexico, US, Chile, Japan you name it, travelling to a distant country town in The Netherlands just to attent this concert. Mindblowing. Please also look at Waking Hour from the same concert, just as good, or maybe even better. (With a different bass player, true to the band configuration of the original song.)
From the same show you should listen to "The Gathering - Waking Hour (TG25 Live at Doornroosje)" and "The Gathering - Strange Machines (TG25: Live at Doornroosje - unofficial video) One of their oldest recordings is "The Gathering - Strange Machines live Pinkpop Fest (1996) Remastered". You see a very young Anneke van Giersbergen. For something completely, different you can listen to their new single "The Gathering - STRONGER" with the current vocalist Silje Wergeland. The sound is now much more dreamy and less rock/metal.
@@ArvoR True, and I just recently starting to appreciate Silje's vocals. I am more of an Anneke fan but I love the new single of The Gathering so I will pay more attention too Silje. She is great. 🤘😎
Hey Todd, great you reacted (twice) to The Gathering and Anneke van Giersbergen. Yes, she is pretty fantastic - the inspiration for other fantastic singers like Floor Jansen (Nightwigh, ReVamp & After Forever) Simone Simons (Epica), Sharon den Adel (Within temptation), Charlotte Wessels (ex - Delain) - Collaboratrice with Devin Townsend Project, Ayreon, and many more. Her voice is very special, and alike the other singers and bands mentioned above definitely worth reacting too.
Such an awesome performance of Rock/Art! I have heard this many times and still, this jaded, 57 yr old male, gets goosebumps and tears every time as Anneke goes into those high notes near the end!! Thanks for doing this one, Todd! Happy New Year!
Great song! In the end you see former and the current singers of The Gathering. The current singer is Silje Wergeland (second from the left), the bold man is Bart Smits, the first singer. On the right is Marike Groot, who was the second singer together with Bart.
Hey Todd, happy new year! Thanks for reacting to this song and thanks to the person who suggested it, I'm so glad you liked it. TG is a band that went from doom metal to atmospheric trip-rock, so they have a very varied repertoire of styles. "Waking Hour", "Amity", "Even The Spirits Are Afraid" or "A Noise Severe", and with their current singer Silje "Heroes For Ghosts" or "I Can See Four Miles" are good songs to react to. And just in case you get to react to the song "Age Of Shadows/We Are Forever" by Ayreon, try to do the studio version because in the live version they skip 5 minutes of Anneke and Jonas Renkse singing which is the best part of the song.
Thanx for the reaction...and a Happy New Year!!! I grew up with the Gathering... Anneke is the mother of all rock and metal dutch female singers i am 45 now and i still feel it.... On most surfaces is my all time favourite...and Strange machines...TG25 Keep up the good music.
Glad you enjoyed it Todd, and that it makes you eager to do some more exploring the Anneke & TG rabbit hole. I think your questions have been answered by others already and I've sent you some more suggestions earlier. One thing that comes to mind is to point out where this all came from and focus your attention on the musical compositions by The Gathering, which are foremost a team effort by all instrumentalists. Their first album 'Always' was doom metal and they were fronted by the 'from a distance Devin-look-alike' grunter you saw on stage, who is called Bart Smits, but they already had female clean vocals (Marike, to Anneke's right) to colour their multi-layered soundscapes back then. Their main sources of inspiration were bands like King Crimson (Anneke later did a wonderful duet with John Wetton) and Pink Floyd, so not much 'heavy metal' really despite their initial dark and grunty sound. Later on, when Anneke joined for a long 'reign' as front woman, they developed into more melancholic, melodic metal/rock genres, starting with their 'pinnacle of goth metal' album 'Mandylion' in 1995, and ending with 'trip rock' album 'Home' in 2006. After that, Silje joined them and they developed an even more trippy sound, culminating in their album 'Disclosure' and quite possibly also in the upcoming album 'Beautiful Distortion'. In all of these musical endeavours, I think their most striking achievement is that they remained consistent in producing simple yet very effective compositions, many of which could be eligible for some 'prog composition 101 canon' imo. This track, 'Travel', is a very good example of this (just listen to the album version!), and if you dig some more you'll discover many more yourself. The studio albums are more layered than their live performances and kinda witholding on vocal prowess and individual instrumental power (to obtain the perfect listener mix I guess?), but in their live performances it's the other way around (to obtain the perfect live experience?), so both studio and live albums offer very nice perspectives and different, but both very enjoyable soundscapes. Enjoy!
Anneke, the Godmother of dutch female Metal Singer. Floor Jansen say in in a interview, she was so inspiriert from her, that she looks for a Band. We all know, After Forever find her. 🤘👍
here's a nice video of anneke at the start of her career here she was still very young and already very good then! The Gathering - Strange Machines live Pinkpop Fest(1996) Remastered Maybe a nice suggestion todd for a new band see if you like it DI-RECT - All In Vain (De Duif Sessions)
Oh, btw, in this video, you see Anneke sings with the 2 other singers that took over the front women that took over after Anneke left the band. Anneke is such a great vocalist. Here is another great one from the same show. ruclips.net/video/pUKBV8M_XXE/видео.html It is called Waking Hour and it a little like Pink Floyd. Thanks for the video.
This song is an Ode to Mozart, he is one of Anneke's main Inspirators. Love Anneke!!

It is my favorite band of all my life, I have listened to them since I was 15 years old so thanks for making this reaction

I listen to over 90% music with female vocals. Adding The Gathering to my list!
Love Anneke and The Gathering - hits a very sweet spot for my ears.
Anneke is on this seasons Beste Zangers too. Well worth a view/react.

All the singers that has ever been in the band starting with Bart .. amazing))

I think it is unofficial because Anneke had left the band some years before. This was a reunion concert, a one off because the group was 25 years old.

Hey we're the same age, and I'm jaded as well. Bring on the 60's, I should be a proper grumpy old man by then. Haha! Happy New Year Allen.
@@MusicWithToddLedbetter + 1- grumpy and + 1- productive 60s ....Cheers Todd!

Happy new year Peter.
Anneke also sings this song with a orchestra. You should react to her singing Freedom. Anneke has a whole album with an Orchestra.
Anneke also had another band called VUUR. Check out their song Days Gone By - London(Live version)
Great band! They have many superb songs. I really like the songs "Saturnine" or "A constant run" from their album "The west pole".
Glad you enjoyed it Todd, and that it makes you eager to do some more exploring the Anneke & TG rabbit hole.

Actually one of them was the first singer of the band, and then Anneke was the second.
