I've been lucky to see Epica twice in my hometown (one of them with Dragonforce!!), and they put a hell of a show. One of those I was able to get a vip ticket and met them face to face, and they're freakin cool and funny, and Simone in person.... "nosebleed". While in the same genre, they're definitly heavier sounding than Nightwish, and Mark Jansen's (not afiliated with Floor :p) growls definitely help, love the contrast between his harsh growls and Simone heavenly voice.
Oh, I forgot to mention one other thing about Kamelot. Alissa (of Arch Enemy) is a frequent backing vocalist for Kamelot, but with Kamelot she does clean vocals.

When the crowd separates and runs at each other like that at the start it is called a wall of death. It happens at metal shows when the song gets slow and then really heavy. You also see it in the video for Teacher, Teacher by Jinjer.

Though there been more female fronted "rock bands in the easrly years" like Jefferson Airplane...Earth and Fire where a Dutch prog Rock band with female vocals that also inspired the ladies I mention further on..( Earth and Fire... nice to react to some of their songs..the origins so to speak) . Anneke van Giersbergen started it in 1988 with The Gathering, accros the pond Evanescence followed years later, Withinn Temptation grew bigger, Inspired Simone Joanna Simons and Floor Jansen to also go for a female high approach to Metal, When Whitin Tempation broke through, keyboardist Martijn Westerholt grew ill, and left the band. He formed Delain with Charlotte Wessels.

Where have they been? Most of them (including Floor) in the Netherlands and more generally North-Western Europe.

The keyboard is mounted on a track in the upper part of the stage, he rides it back and forth. Neat as hell.

Best to start with anything from the One Cold Winter's Night concert like Forever, Center Of The Universe, Elizabeth, When The Lights Are Down, & Somewhere In Time (a duet with Simone Simons of Epica). Fun fact: Epica took their name from Kamelot's album by the same name.
Epica literally too their name from an album by the band Kamelot, called, what else, but EPICA. Simone Simons is actually married to Kamelot's keyboard player Oliver Polotai. So they have a VERY long standing history wth this band.

Though there been more female fronted "rock bands in the easrly years" like Jefferson Airplane...Earth and Fire where a Dutch prog Rock band with female vocals that also inspired the ladies I mention further on..( Earth and Fire... nice to react to some of their songs..the origins so to speak) . Anneke van Giersbergen started it in 1988 with The Gathering, accros the pond Evanescence followed years later, Withinn Temptation grew bigger, Inspired Simone Joanna Simons and Floor Jansen to also go for a female high approach to Metal, When Whitin Tempation broke through, keyboardist Martijn Westerholt grew ill, and left the band. He formed Delain with Charlotte Wessels.
