The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is one of the toughest tests in professional golf. That's why THE PLAYERS Championship is sometimes called "The 5th Major." And that's what makes our Breaking Sawgrass series such a difficult test - because these three golfers from the RGC Community are playing the course - from the tips - just a day after the tournament. The greens are fast and firm, the rough is long, and the water is always in play.
The "Breaking Sawgrass" series features three unique players with three different handicaps attempting to overcome three different goals:
Joe Hooks is a professional golfer and the best dressed of the three. He has the most ambitious goal in our group. Joe is a +4 handicap attempting to break 75 during his first-ever round at TPC Sawgrass.
Ben Goodly is a chef, food blogger, and all-around good dude. Easily the most nervous of the group. He’s a 14 handicap and setting out to break 100.
Tom Coyne is the Senior Editor at the Golfer’s Journal. He’s also the author of four books (soon to be 5) and a podcast host. He’s a 3.1 and his goal is 90.

Tom Coyne!!! He has stories to keep any golfer entertained for years. He’s authored my 2 favorite golf books ever, he’d be a dream pairing.
Ben was just taking advantage of the opportunity and wanted to play the course twice

I gotta be honest, Ben started as my least favorite, and ended as arguably my most. Great attitude, and although he was very unrealistic about his true handicap (I don’t think purposefully), he represents the majority of golfers and is very respectful of the game with a great attitude. I’d love to play with him! And Tom’s dry humor cracks me up 😂
I'd guess he's about a 30. Either way, anyone who is in the teens or higher would probably shoot well over 100. There isn't much room for error on this course. Most courses your average golfer plays have a lot of room for error.
Its two years after your comment, but being realistic he went from playing probably local Muni's measuring 5800 on the whites to a 7k yrd course that makes a 3 index get 9 strokes. He probably isn't a 14, but I would say he's a solid 20. Playing a championship condition course, with forced carries as long as sawgrass has, from the tips is going to make any mid handicapper look like a 30+.
Ben's drive on 18 is what keeps us all coming back! "Hitting that drive on 18 makes it all worth it". Great series. Thanks.

After the final putt all I was hoping for was one of our heroes casually saying "So ... same time next week?" The entire series was such a joy to watch. Keep up the excellent work, and I hope I'm not the only one who thinks it could be great idea to bring Ben, Tom and Joe back for another round on some different course. Thank you!

I actually gasped out loud when Joe lipped the hole on 16. What a series. Great edit and camera work, plus you cant beat the EAL commentary. Cant wait for more!

I watch a lot of golf here on utube. But, this format is by far the best I've seen. Players of all levels trying their best on majestic courses. Absolutely fantastic.

Man... that 17th hole... I was at the edge of my seat - just willing Ben’s ball to hit the green. Good on him for not going to the drop zone, and making the second one count. Great work telling this story RGC.

How did I get so emotionally invested into this series?
This is my easily favorite youtube channel. Watch it frequently at work between patients (ICU doctor). Love the commentary, definitely helps me relax!! This particular series is a really cool idea. As a novice golfer (less than 9 months, shoot around 100) it's been great to see the thought process for three very different skill levels. hope to see more of these, Go Ben!!!

I just love this series by RGC bringing everyday golfers to iconic courses and playing from the tips. I’ve been following Skratch golfer on YTube for a while now but only got introduced to RGC a couple of weeks back and I’m hooked, watching the guys play Pinehurst #2, Erin Hills and now TPC Sawgrass. Just love it.
It would be my privilege and pleasure if I was ever selected for such a series. I’m a 58 year old Guy from the UK current h’cap of 4.4 and will be visiting Canada and USA ( Phoenix) In November 2022 for approximately 3 weeks, a trip of a lifetime. I hope you might have a series lined up around that time, and have my fingers crossed such an event happens and I’m one of the lucky ones…. Please please please 🤞🤞😁
Well Ben, you are not close to a 14 handicap or whatever you stated. You are not a 30 handicap. Loved Joe’s focus. Not the best swing but dialed in to play the swing he has. Joe judges distances on putts almost perfectly. So focused.
I love the Random Golf films. So well presented and that voice, that commentary is just iconic. I found RGC yesterday. I have been watching most of two days now. I gave up golf for 17 years and am hitting range balls again. These series make me want to get back out on a course again. Best on RUclips.

What an absolute masterclass RGC has become. Erik, you will without a doubt go down as one of the most influential and inspiring figures the game of golf has ever seen.
I would watch all 4 at once, 2 hours of this straight up would be no problem. The suspense from one episode to the next got to me! Ha. Loved the series, and all 3 golfers really impressed me in their own ways. A great concept!

This series has really been a treat for me and could not have come out at a better time. It is currently illegal for me to play golf where i live and we already have a short season as it is. Watching these fine gentlemen play an absolute beast of a course and smiling and laughing the whole way around regardless of their skill level was truly up lifting. Thanks RCG!

Thank you so much for all the content over the years.I have been grinding and am at an 8 handicap right now. Weekend warrior work family and all but this summer looking to get it to at least a 5.
