Love how you went from "if the game was easy nobody would play it" to "remind me never to do this again", we've all been there! Brilliant video as always Erik.
Caddie at 6:15 "I don't think it's possible to play well and think about a score" - that's golden wisdom right there. @GolfSidekick says this kind of thing all the time, perhaps a bit less eloquently.
MidLifeBiker lmao yeah that’s what he’s saying. The OG saying goes, and this applies to whatever difficult task you are doing, “if it were easy, everyone would do it”
Zero pressure from that introduction. We’ve all been there on first green wondering “what happened”. A dream come true. This course is on my post COVID bucket list. Seeing COVID patients every day. This seems so far away right now. Looking forward to having some R&R. Golf courses here in Ireland open on 18th May. Thanks for brightening up my day!
Man, Erik, since I first discovered you and began watching literally everything you put out, you have made the love of golf for me grow 1000 times more. I was already so addicted to the game, but since watching you, all I do is talk about golf and your content with friends, family, coworkers, and people on the track when I’m playing at different spots. I always turn them on to adventures in golf. I say watching your videos is almost close to living out ones dream of travel and golf through you and your content. I was praying so hard you came out of this video with your mission accomplished, but man! A 90 still!?!? I think you crushed it! Please. Don’t ever change. Always be you, always love this game, and please please please, always create golf videos! They make my bad days better, and my good days even more amazing. I get lost in your videos and can’t wait to do traveling of my own and play the courses I dream about myself!
Erik - you scored an 89! If it was a par 71, (like it usually is) then you’re correct about scoring 90. Since they changed hole 6 into a par 4 the course plays as a par 70. Which means +19 is an 89 and you broke 90. I hope you see this and realize you actually accomplished your goal. Keep up the great work with the awesome videos.
"It's like hitting a whiffle ball bat into a 5-pound bag of hot spaghetti"... I can visualize exactly how the rough is. EAL you're quite the wordsmith. Love the videos, pure art!
the cinematography/style/color is point - sometime I wish we got to see more of your round of playing as it ends up showing off more of the course. great video!
Golf is not easy, add in a brutal course and being slightly off your game, anything can happen. Love the sheer honesty in this video Erik. We all feel your pain. Great video.
I loved this video - I actually re-watched (why is there not a love button on YT?). The struggle is real. You nailed the editing here (including the change in music, the pace) ... the emotion, the optimism, the little lies we all tell ourselves ... The crashing reality of the situation / loss of any momentum. No-one else is doing this. Keep it up. We are all waiting. (Tuesdays and Fridays apparently ... WTF is that about)? P.S. Ref #15 and the hot spaghetti: Come to Italy, the pasta is kept solely to the restaurants ... and its pretty eff'ing good. The golf is also legit. P.P.S. Shout out to the caddie. #Gold, #fingersnap P.P.P.S. The green sizes are mental. My dog sleeps in a smaller space. Ciao. (You seemed a little quick, a few clean ones? Sounds like you got unlucky at #3 etc. Ignore me. I'm a little drunk. You are certified golf porn)
I played PB as a 80th birthday present from my son- what a guy! Kept notes and wrote the whole experience up afterwards. Best experiences: having a caddie who was a great guy after he decided I wasn"t a jerk. Apparently they get too many like that. The feeling of playing where so many great golfers have been and having seen it so many times on TV. The holes where the ocean is a factor.(4-10, 17, 18) This is the heart of the course and the main reason for its reputation. The views. The abrupt changes of elevation on #6 and 7, the carries over chasms or the beach (#5, 8 and 18) . Quite a few holes rely on placement of trees or bunkers to give definition to the hole rather than natural land forms (1,2,3,11,12,13 and 15) Just a comment not a judgement. Such holes can be found on any fine golf course. After I made handicap adjustment to my score (no triples) I shot a gross 92 from the whites. And that was with 34 putts. So quite a test. Enjoyed this video for its honesty.
That slow mo tee shot off 9 brought a tear to my eye. Along with the great content from the golf, to the music, to the filming, this is one of the most breathtaking places in the world. Did not get a chance to play PB, but that scene off 9 reminded me so much of being on the beach there in Carmel. It's one of only two places that have made me emotional just from a scenery stand point. Thank you, sir.
I love this video. I can't call it "content" because it is so much more. Aspirational, relatable, emotional and honest stories about a life lived with golf. Thanks mate.
I want to be an ambassador for this channel. You deserve a much bigger audience! - the content, the conversation, the stories, the videography and the golf is just sublime. Keep it going, if your ever back in Scotland or I'm stateside 👍
I love that you got to do this. Super fun to watch. Even fun to see how pushing yourself this way kind of took you out of your groove, not in a "enjoy your suffering" way, but just in a "yup, i have been there too" way.
Was just there a few weeks ago, and even then the course was a beast... Played Spanish (3), Spyglass (2), and Pebble (2) that week and it is amazing. Erik this channel kills it I never miss a video keep going..
A humbling game on a sick course. Thanks Eric for helping be a part of the reason I’m getting back into golf. Shooting 90 when you have no expectations of your own game actually feels awesome!
This was a class watch! Golf- The struggle is real! I can't see many single digit handicap players putting a score together round there in its current set up! Well played Erik
Such an amazing video... you always find the way to show us what golf is really about, and always humble to let golf prove you how tough it is... great video, keep them coming
Great video. I’m a -9 and I got the chance to play sawgrass last weekend. I meet the starter and he says “sir you’re gonna be with three old ladies, and they’re walking.” So I drop my cart and walk to the first tee box. They had already teed off. I hit my shot and snatch it. The ball never gets above 20 feet and never goes below 200 mph. STRAIGHT over their heads. Extremely embarrassed and laughing at myself. But because I kept your monologues in the back of my head throughout the round, I was able to make friends and enjoy the round even playing with the most intense members ever lol Thanks.
Love the heart. Can't feel bad for you because I really have a hard time breaking 90 most days and you got to play pebble! Keep making great inspirational content. Thank you for making golf attractive again to a lot of people
Coming back to these videos makes me realize how far this channel's come... congrats on the effort and keeping up the spirit. Also, congrats on that 90. Holy hell, that looked tough. Way to muscle through... It's exciting to see where RGC will go moving forward. Best wishes to Erick and his old & new crew.
I know it may not have been your most enjoyable episode to make but I really loved it and I am sure 99% of others did also. Please do more like this, thanks.
Thank you for leaving this video so genuine Erik. You are a great golfer some days but showing you doing not great at a impossibly hard course shows us that were maybe not as far out as we thought we were. With maybe a little more determination and practice we can be that good one day as easily as we 4 putt and shank it out of bounds. Stay humble mate.
Erik my man ! Love this. Keep up living your dreams i'm here following you along the way. I love golf and what you do for the sport is amazing. Hands down the coolest man in golf right now.
Fantastic vid Eric , admire your golf , calmness and lack of ego , I’m sure you’d easily break 90 next time without the nerves , first look at course as well so give yourself a break , well done from 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏌🏻♂️
Eric - 1992, two days after the US Open at Pebble (Tom Kite won), I got to play under open conditions - everything was just about the same, fairways, rough, stimpmeter...TV towers still up. Six-hour round, the longest and most spectacular time on a golf course in my life. The first tee dribbed my drive 20 yards in front of about 40 spectators... but I birdied 18 to shoot 89! I was pulling for you all the way through the video. I have a funny story on how I got to play so close to the Open if you ever do a "great story around your greatest round" podcast.
Had fun watching. Thanks for the vid! That course setup not only punishes for the average shot but takes a pound of flesh for a miss. God forbid if you miss the green in the wrong place! Sheesh! That’s golf, fun and frustrating at the same time.
Just found your podcast last night. I have also recently fallen back in love with the game. Growing up and working on courses. Really loving the content on this. I REALLY LOVED the 2 podcasts with the superintendent on the one course and the Roger Clemens on the other. GREAT STUFF.
I had the opportunity to play Pacific Grove with my Dad and I thought that course was tough. I know you're a good golfer Erik dont give up on yourself ever. Nice video thanks for sharing it. Also jealous that you got to play right before the Open.
Watched this vid when it just came out and thought I would never be able to play there. Played it from the U.S. Open tees last week and shot an 83. So happy for my first time playing the course and did not have a caddie.
You are the chillest cat. I have only played one famous course in my life and that was St. Andrews The Old Course. It’s definitely different that what you see on TV. Your You Tube channel is great. Can’t wait to see more.
Good on ya for putting yourself in front of the world on a US Open layout. Putter definitely let you down. Love your attitude and perspectives on the game!
Back in 2012, I was a caddie at the Olympic Club and got to play there, from the tips, just before the US Open. Looked to hopefully break 90 but had no high expectations. I was more on Cloud 9 at taking everything in. Played some of the best golf of my life and shot 85. Narrow and thin fairways, super heavy rough, and lightning greens were quite intimidating, to say the least
Another great video! I'm not gonna go play golf tonight. I was sat looking at your 52,000 subscribers and wondered how you don't have 10x that amount...then realised I've not subscribed myself!! Shot Even 71 from the tips when I played Pebble for the first time last year. 2 birdies 2 bogeys. Wasn't a US Open setup but still fun. Easily the most memorable round of my life.
Thanks for sharing Eric, great video, that’s real golf, seductive, exciting, and kicks you in balls when you’re down! We’ve all been there, maybe not on pebble beach - anyone’s who’s played golf has had that battle. Swings looking great !
Wow. Thanks for putting this video out. I have a much greater appreciation for the pros when they play this week now.
Thanks guys.
Love how you went from "if the game was easy nobody would play it" to "remind me never to do this again", we've all been there! Brilliant video as always Erik.
YOooo please more course vloggy videos like this. I love the cinematography but i really enjoyed being able to follow each shot
agreed.
Always thought they could show a little bit more of this on adventures in golf
Go dawgs

For recreational players definitely. Legit amateurs and professionals thrive playing with numbers in mind.

rizzo69ca not really credit, just something we tend to forget and it’s a good thing to reiterate
rizzo69ca hella toxic for someone pointing out something nice smh
I think if golf was easier, more ppl would play it. Love or hate the challenge and time to invest...

Demoralizing to follow up the par on 5 with a 4 putt double on 6.
That is an apt description of the feeling walking onto 7. Especially after a good drive and 6 iron... Hard to watch for me!
