Its definitely justified this time

@@perryelyod4870 To a point. It is a business still. The difference between M engine and no M engine is thousands.
CHECK YOUR AUCTIONS ARBITRATION POLICY. They disclosed it was running rough, but having the wrong engine is a material fact not disclosed. It’s the equivalent of finding frame damage that wasn’t mentioned, you can probably return it.
Can't imagine auctions have policies going that far, they'd be bankrupt within a year on all the returns.
@@mipmipmipmipmip yeah they converted it to a pos🤣
Yeah he has a point if you paid for it online you will be covered if you got a PSI up to 30 days. The seller has to disclose non-OEM engine if they Green Lit it. If you were inlane buyer then even in if it was sold red light you can still ARB since it was badged as a M series and it dosen't have a M series engine. Claming they Mis Rep'd the car. WHERE IS. NO GUARANTEES"
I think I would be calling the seller and filing a lawsuit. That is CLEAR misrepresentation and they knew it.
The positive thing here is that Hoovie just saved somebody from actually being terribly scammed. You know, if Hoovie didn't buy it, someone else would have.
He could donate it to the Salvation Army and take the full deduction. PBS says they will take anything.
And it's a tax write-off for him
So it's OK he took a massive hit??? He should return it
Hoovie took it on the chin (or somewhere else) for us.
And odds are they would -need- a working car
Don’t think the original motor was “blown”, rather pulled out and put in a more desirable platform, then a junkyard motor sourced that would physically be similar to an M motor so that this car could be sold as a more valuable M model.
I guessed the same thing
Yep, I thought the same thing
10000% this
Or perhaps even more likely is the engines were swapped. Whatever car this engine came from now has the X6Ms original engine.
Considering how well the rest of the car was taken care of, I wouldn't be suprised if the engine did blow up at 70k.

For the Aston Martin, If its the 6 speed box, there is a mechanical lever under the rear passenger seat which when pulled disengages the parking brake and puts the transmission into neutral. If its the 8 speed box then there is a place on the left side of the transmission to insert an M6 bolt which does the same thing.
Thats what i was thinking. Most cars have some way to be put in neutral that isnt reliant on electronics

My 85 Subaru Turbo wagon apparently is currently an improvement over this in every way despite it not having been on the road in 29 years. It can at least do 72mph… at 5400rpm… And it can go into any gear at any time, as it has no shift lock! Oh 80s subaru, you were so Janky…
It’s not, this video is a gross misrepresentation of these vehicles. This mechanic is 100% a joke, clearly very unfamiliar with bmw v8.
The fact that Manheim gave this a 2.8 CR is insane (scale is 1-5). Really makes you question the quality of their inspections.
Their inspections been bs if you have connections you get whatever you want and if you’re a small lot or wholesaler you get fked on a clean car let alone a rough one. But what’re we gonna do about it? We don’t have another option.
Oh yea. We got a v6 mustang for a client a while back, 3.9 was the rating. Scratches and small dents everywhere, not original transmission, top leaked, interior bits were broken. Brought it back almost immediately. Realistically it was a 2.7 at best.

Here’s a secret: I had rebuild my X5M. The block used for the M is the same one for the non M(N63). The block bores and everything is the same. They just print the S on the outside for the engine i.d. just for show. When I pop off the front chain cover on my M , there’s a huge print on the block that says N63.
Hi Hoovie, just wanted to let you know about a video Sam Crac published the other day about his Aston Martin, saying there's a gearbox release switch under the rear seat on the driver side; apparently engineers put it there for exactly the reason like this where power or other failures occur ! The VIN wouldn't tell you anything in this case since it was originally an M car but the engine was swapped out. I wonder if they swapped out the engine just to part it out separately since the rest of the car was junk.

I’m an automotive warranty inspector and noticed too many BMW lower oil pan gasket failures? I was quick to notice that rather than replacing the gasket BMW had a a whole kit! A gasket, a new set of bolts (with blue Locktite) on the bolts and a replacement “Lower Oil Pan!.” I worked for Ferrari, Porsche/Audi Mid-America and last forAlfa. I asked a friend (still at BMW) “what’s up with replacement of the oil pan?” I was told it’s made of a different grade aluminum so I then asked “Shouldn’t this really be a recall?” And that was the end of the call.
The X6 M had a enginectomy…… you know what nevermind 😮
If a car is not as described by the auction, you normally can claim your money back if you deal with a reputable auction. Hence the reason why the auction doesn't release the money to seller right away.
He bought it at We Screw Em and Howe Auctioneers. A division of Mafia Co. "We think you really want to keep this car.
You are right but normally you only have a few days to inspect it and get your money back. Big issue if you’re going to get a car shipped to you from an auction and haven’t seen it yet..
Only option I see for Hoove if he wanted too was to sue, he’d have a great case but would it be worth hassle.
depends on how the car was labeled, if it was red light it's sold as is and you get what you see.
@@freakymrq True, but the court would rule on reasonable expectation, and the car was labelled X6M, with X6M, badges and X6M engine cover the least of what I could see and understand. If you’re purchasing from an auction, you’re paying based on what you see and the description. And if the engine swap wasn’t mentioned, it’s pretty reasonable that any person would be expecting to be purchasing a M car. And if Hoovie could prove the seller knew about the engine swap, the case would be pretty open and shut. And even after that the seller could be brought up on potential criminal charges for fraud.
BMW tech here again, I can’t say I’ve ever seen an N63 swapped X6 M before, that’s definitely a first! Also I may be biased but the newer BMWs, especially anything B58 powered, is honestly decently reliable. BMWs bread and butter is and has always been the straight 6, anything else isn’t nearly as reliable nor trustworthy. The N63TU (Same engine as yours but updated) is okayish in terms of reliability but it’s not good in the scope of most cars. Realistically most BMWs aren’t too unreliable as long as they’re maintained. The thing is that almost all of the BMWs you buy end up being maintained very poorly and end up being rat boxes because of it.
How's the s63tu
@@amrfz6114 theyre really reliable actually
That was exactly my thoughts, all bmws he buys are highly neglected then the blame ends up to BMW itself. I personally have an older 06 x3 with the 3.0 engine and is currently at 190k still original engine and transmission, only issue currently is the bump from the transfer case needing rebuild but I have it unplugged for the time being until I order a new one to have this old one as spare. Also had a 00 e46 and put 215k on it, only scrapped it because it developed the Sub-Frame cracking issue, but engine and transmission were great too.
As a BMW tech how do you feel about BMW’s long oil change intervals?
@@amrfz6114 it’s alright in terms of reliability, about the same as the N63TU. No valve seal issues like the older cars but there’s still some common issues like the turbo cooler lines, some plastics, etc.
I believe that being voluntarily rendered infertile is much worse than having a BMW X6 neutered.
Hi thanks for the content. I have an e70 x5m 2012 since 35,000 kms for the last 5 years. I simply fix anything that starts to go wrong, before it's a major expensive issue. Its @ 100,000 kms now and it's tuned to 700bhp with M10 turbos, cat less downpipes and seriously it's no issue. It's all about the maintenance. If you buy a highly tuned car of any brand, it costs lots to run them. If you spend a small amount minimum maintenance, they go wrong in a big way. Any performance high end car! It's not just BMWs. Ferrari brakes are terrible for example $6,000 dollars every 2 years. Electrical faults left right and center, Lamborghini transmissions fail all of the time, clutches on Aston martins transmissions, McLaren's have loads of recalls failed engines. I've had the privilege to drive them all and it's not isolated to BMW.
As a shop that works on these often, and has done so for ten years, we tune and upgrade them as well, this video is completely inaccurate and a bad source of information, I’ll happily back up my claims with documents. Video should have never been uploaded.

You riding in a car with no shocks so soon after surgery was definitely a Laugh Out Loud moment!
You want to try a motorcycle? I had an RS1200 with a leaking crankshaft seal. That is behind the clutch on a lenghtwise four inline. For the clutch to be removed you need to build intermediate support for the engine. Then you start to dismantle the bike from the rear. Rear wheel, brake, shaft drive, subframe and gearbox. Make sure to get the absolute right clutch throwout bearing because the wrong one will hurt the new clutch you put in because you won’t be doing this again.
My theory about BMW is that most new BMW owners buy the cars own them for only a few years at most and then trade them in for a new luxury car and they never take the hit for all the issues that are fixing to happen. In this aspect BMW only needs the car to work properly for a few years then they don't care after that because they don't make money off used cars.

It was a fantastically smooth and powerful engine... When it was running and I _mean_ when. So glad I got rid of that car, I'll stick to the older BMWs.
When I bought my BMW F10 second hand, I did a pre-purchase inspection by an independent and reputable mechanic, who found problems that the car dealer fixed. Before the statutory used car warranty ran out, I did another inspection by a different independent mechanic, who also found problems that the dealer also had to fix. After the statutory warranty expired, I fortunately had paid for an optional extended warranty and yet two more problems cropped up, which were fixed by the warranty underwriter. All of this within the space of few months of ownership. Now, a few months later, and after routine maintenance, another problem has been discovered, which unfortunately I have to pay for myself to fix. It seems the only real scam is buying a BMW. Never had such litany of problems with the Mercedes and other brand of cars I have bought over the years. BMWs are beautifully engineered and designed cars but the quality of their components is absolutely and utterly crap. Will never get sucked into buying a BMW again.

Parting the BMW out might be the best option and would be hilarious to watch Tyler do with Freddy and Ed as a CarTrek plot. They then have to buy a car or cars with the recouped money and the adventure unfolds further from there.
precisely what I was thinking. Best advice I've seen here. If you buy the cheapest of anything, that should always be considered as an option during the inspection. Things like the seats, brakes, engine (if it isn't toast), transmission, suspension bits will always find a home with the advent of ebay. The M badge puts a hefty premium for all those parts, and it's easy to find what you can swap to what (brakes can go on a 5 series, for example).
Hang in there Hoovie. The rough road will smoothen out soon😊
As for the BMW, you can part it out, or do another Chevy (Corvette) engine swap like you did to your Porsche years ago. Have fun with it. Mod the hell out of it🤪
After the LS swap, perhaps he can sell the car to a realtor affiliated with a biker gang. ;)
The most expensive vehicle acquisition method, leasing,. is frequently selected with the driver dumping the car at end of lease, avoiding out of pocket repair expenses, so crap continues to roll off the assembly line.
Seems like a great time to call Westin about swapping something more interesting in... Might just want to swap out the rest of the car too while he's at it.
If suffering = content, and I think we can all agree that's the basis of this channel, this thing is the best buying decision you've ever made.
I'd still want to see how it runs once the misfire is cleared. If somehow the M ECU works with the non M engine, that would be interesting. Either way, spend the $350 to fix those rear shocks. Sheesh.
Dumb question but does the does the new engine use the same ecm as the old engine? If not I wonder if it was replaced and if not could it be causing the misfire.

I would publicly call out the seller and auction company who sold this. Clearly criminal
Misrepresentation. Badge says M. Make them take it back.
It'd be great if it were that easy. It would have taken an inordinate amount of diligence for the auction company to find it, even the car ninja only found out after looking at the block stamp with the car in the air. What then? Go after the bank who probably put it up who would have had no idea or the owner that can just play dumb? That rabbit hole would just waste a lot of time and money trying to chase it down when there's too much plausible deniability and finally finding the culprit, the lawsuit would likely be like bleeding a turnip.
It's buyer beware, auction company is not liable here.
@@rogersmith7396 I think if the chassis VIN is a true M car, that wouldn't work.
@Caleb That's why call them out because two reasons. One you know they have done this before and will do it again. Second it's completely unethical and sends a bad name across the industry to any auction house of reputable companies.

That could be why its running like shit..?
@@king_tut. Yes for sure. The cams are different, ignition and fuel injection will be off as well. Also the amount of air that is forced into the cylinders will be different which has to be calibrated in the ECU software.
To complete the comment, the gearbox also needs reprogramming for sure
This isn’t how cars work. The car has the stock ecu I am sure. N63 and s63 block are 1:1 the exact same. Remanufactured engines show up with n63 stamp all the time as a result of this.
This RUclipsr has no business making these videos, he clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about!
The “car ninja” doesn’t even know this. Embarrassing!
As far as the Aston, Pumps sound like that when they are low on fluid, would be the first thing to check.
Need to go back and check the Sierra Cosworth out in ninjas place.
Poor Tyler!! When a dark cloud hovers the bright sun is always ready to come through. In other words things will get better Sir!
Get well soon Tyler. Thanks for keeping us entertained. Wishing u a good car that u can make money out of for the future. At least skip a lemon for once :D
Well the E80 and 90 series are pretty solid when Diesel Engines have been made.
I love how even the light on the emergency flashers button is flickering lol
Keep you head up hoovie. You’re talented and savvy and have your whole life ahead of you.
@@patrickdean7244Let’s see your garage…
@@patrickdean7244 No no, the talker goes first.
If it came from Houston, that sounds about right 😑
Houston we have a problem.
For misfire check that the resister in DME is not fried. Very common on N63 to have a blown resister in DME.

Last year I spent $10k attempting to resuscitate my deeply broken 2014 BMW X3. I recently sold it for….less than that. This vehicle had been fastidiously dealer maintained its entire life and never driven hard and yet it managed to blow its engine at 82k miles. Service manager at the stealership was, like, “yeah, that generally happens to these between 80 and 100k miles,” so blasé like that was a completely normal thing to say about a modern vehicle with under 100k miles! 🤬 It also needed an a/c compressor replacement which turned into a 6 month maintenance quagmire with said dealership awaiting parts. I will NEVER own another BMW. For an allegedly “luxury” brand, I had a horrific ownership experience and treatment from the dealer. My new car is a Mercedes GLA, just got off the big boat from Germany and will be in my garage in a few weeks. ✨
@Hoovie there might be a neutral safety switch or something behind the driver seat (under the rear driver side seat if there is a back seat) that can be accessed. It definitely is a thing on newer astons but not sure when they implement that. Samcracs recent Aston video showed how he got to it. Worth a look!!
