I own the Nyxi GameCube joycons and you can in fact change the rumble intensity.
You hold the turbo button down and tilt the stick upwards or downwards to change the rumble intensity.
Many of the GameCube controllers problem on Switch could be solved if it was possible to remap the buttons.
I ser up a SNES emulator on my NGC, and remapping the buttons counter-clockwise so the big green A button is the "b" button, and the grey X button is "a", and so on.
Works really well!
Ugh, please ignore the spelling errors, I'm still getting used to my new phone. 😅
Okay, so I hope people who liked my comment sees this, because I found the answer! The 8-bitdo wireless NGC and classic controller adaptor (it looks like a indigo NGC sausage) will trick the Switch into thinking it is a Pro Controller AND therefore let you remap the buttons on your real NGC controller!
So now you can finally use your NGC on any Switch game and have it feel just right. Playing through Super Mario Oddysey, jumping on A and throwing Cappy on B, it’s like a dream come true!
I think the split GameCube controllers for the Switch look friggin amazing when docked, especially the purple ones, they just look very cool to me for some reason.
Yes yes! Every time I see my Switch with the GameCube JoyCons on, I smile.
With the right button config I much enjoyed playing boarderlands on the switch
Missed out the part about button height being an issue on the NYXI;
A-button basically disappears into the controller casing...
Is that a really bad thing to make one avoid the Nyxi?
@@anhonestreviewer7015 I'd say the instant GBA click response on the rear shoulder buttons is another main catch, compared to the tilting shoulder buttons on Doyoky. But either way, NYXI Wizard has the HALL sensor thumbsticks
Also the Y and X buttons being higher than A and B, doyoky got it better. He also missed that the nixys back buttons are a macro, not a true swap button. The doyokys are actually a swap button
Mine isn't like that at all, mine don't go past the line on the case.
@@anhonestreviewer7015 Yes, the button height matter a /lot/.
My main problem with these 3rd party options will always be the rubber for the buttons. If you play Smash or another game that requires you to repeat press the buttons far more than a game like Pokemon, the rubber will wear out incredibly fast, which doesn't happen with 1st party controllers.
And, since it is a 3rd party option, replacing that rubber inside the controller is near impossible because you can't find replacements.
The hori split pad doesn't.
@@shadow.dragon.decoded.2579 probably because they are officially licensed options
I don't think that's a problem my I've been using mine since release and I game on the regular 3+ hours a day. I don't remember when the Wizard launched but the rubber still isn't even phased.
That's why you use kontrol freeks
GameCube uses membranes. To imitate GameCube, it has to be membrane. It won't feel proper without it. Contact pads are incredibly easy to replace. Find one that'll fit, affix it, and you're good.
Honesty time. The only reason the NYXI Wizard is attractive to me more than any other is because of the LED buttons and Hall effect.
I have the NYXI and I enjoy it enough. It’s not 1:1 to a GameCube controller and I have a few qualms with the feeling of it but I enjoy it as a joycon replacement in handheld. However, in TV mode I’ll still go to my pro controller almost every time. I’d recommend it still, but maybe wait till it’s on sale if it ever does
Yeah, the price is steep. And for it to have any real issues at all at that price... not great.
It’s too bad neither of those GameCube joy-cons have the “C” label carved into the right analog stick heads as that would’ve been a great piece of nostalgia for the original GameCube controller design.
Ain't no way you're nitpicking a letter 😂
@@kitz927He ain’t wrong. It’s a visual ick
An easy addition if they're swappable
Agreed. It's also kinda bugs me how neither of them made the L and R buttons purple like the original Z button. PowerA got that part right with their GC Pro Controllers
@@kitz927 He's right, though! Gotta be small and with a C.
0:21...?😂 I had a quick chuckle tbh.
I have the NYXI one and it's alright. But all I want is just a copy of the original! Why do these companies feel like they need to add a bunch of stuff to try to make it more appealing? I never use the turbo button, I don't like re-mapping buttons. I wish nintendo would just make their own official ones.
Doyoky is much closer to GameCube, but not exact. The face buttons are so damn close. Highly recommended. The bells and whistles are... tiresome. Especially janky lights that don't actually turn off. Nintendo is foolish for not cashing in on this. I'd gladly pay 100 USD for them.
Can we please just start calling them Game-Cons? I would very much like that.
joy cube 😏
Cube-Cons
@@lowlow8482best name
Yup cube cons is better
@@rumhyy5334I like Cube-Cons:)
Youre just gonna keep posting gamecube joycon 😂
for us, it's £70 for a Joy-Con pair (that's $100), so the GameCube Style Joy-Cons may be a fair bit cheaper for us...
Did you see that Doyoky now offers Hall effect joy sticks and in a solid black color as well? You should do a review on it in comparison to your previous thoughts.
Actually, you can increase or decrease the rumble on the NYXI as well
Unless I'm thinking of the frequency of the rapid fire... 😅
yes you are correct and it kinda angers me that he didn’t point it out
GameCube
Has he spoken in the past about the power-A gamecube switch controller? I get its not in this because maybe it doesnt slide appart gamecube style but it got ke wondering
If you're not going to play with them attached to the Switch, PowerA is absolutely the better option.
DOYOKY actually revealed that the Hall Effect version of their Retro controller is in works, and will be released on AUGUST, with Black color. (Purple color coming later.)
Ok. Lets go in the opposite direction, seeing as theres a lot of fighting games on switch. Joycons that have smaller analog sticks, bottom positions on both sides. The right side's shoulder buttons are gone, replaced by a Z and C button on the front, giving it a 6 button layout. Larger dpad on the left, exactly like the Sega Saturns.
We don't really need a 6 button layout, we just need somebody to replicate the Vita dpad on a joycon, maybe make the PS layout (Dpad up, sticks down) or the Wii U layout (sticks up, buttons and dpad down), and that's it
@@radiantansel202 6 button layout is primarily for fighting games. Its why people still seek out Sega Saturn style controllers.
@@MisterSouji I wouldn't quite agree on that, the only real 6 button fighting game is Street Fighter, most of my friends of the FGC are fine with 4 buttons and triggers instead for the macros needed.
There is a couple of cases where the 6 button layout works, it really does, however I think the quality and position of them matters more than the layout.
I approve.
... shank mods are the best
But they can't be purchased.
I bought the doyoki joycons. Day ONE the underside customizable buttons broke in. Drift set in almost immediately. Customer service didn’t help.
NYXI’s joy cons are better and more well put together. I’ve never had an issue with the wizards.
How would you compare these to the PowerA Wireless GameCube controller?
Could you look at the Exlene GameCube Controller? It's a singular whole, not split into Joycon, but it has a mode for PC. I want to know how good it is for something like Dolphin, as well as the Switch.
Awesome review! I almost pulled the trigger but I’m gonna pass on it now and wait for something closer to the og!
On Amazon, the doyoky in black says Hall effect sticks ? Maybe they just added it
Companies need to stop making concaved thumb sticks. NOBODY USES CONCAVE. Dome is where it's at! When we buy kontrol freek thumb grips, WE DONT GO "HM, I WANT A CONCAVE THUMB GRIP FOR MY GAMING EXPERIENCE"
Im leaning towards doyoky but you cant change 8 way gate, ill prob get nyxi since these comments say its better
I have a question unrelated to the controllers... that Master Sword and Hylian shield, where'd you get 'em? Are they available online?
Thank you foe this review. Very accurate and detailed. GameCube is my favourite controller and I'm very pleased we have options to use them on Switch.
I look forward to your review of the new Nyxi Warrior!
Im surprised someone hasn’t torn apart a wavebird and turned it into a joy-con.
Do they charge while attached to the switch?
DOYOKY is amazing when you use it as a pro controller, I'm using it for Dolphin on the PC and loving it. but if you want to use it on the switch handheld mode it SUCKS! the joycon wiggles a lot, at the point that they connect/disconnect.
Eh. The movement when attached to the rails isn't a big concern. I've logged over a hundred and fifty hours in handheld, no issues.
Is this really bad or not? It's basically how I was planning to use them...mainly thinking of getting the new black model.
Also, seems you guys had very different experiences...
If the Switch 2 uses JCs. I might get one set of these. Or I might get em for my Steam Deck.
For the Steam Deck, get the PowerA ones. Only get Doyoky or Nyxi for attaching to the Switch.
Dude, how many thumbnails
Not enough!
NYXI as no drift
Doyoky said they are currently packaging their Hall effect joystick GameCube JoyCons, to be available this months (September, 2023).
Has anyone used the new doyoky GameCube joycons in black or platinum that now use the hall effect instead of ALPS? Apparently they upgraded the joysticks to use hall effect to completely remove the chance of drift. I'm debating if I should buy it but can't find reviews on the newest version of the doyoky GameCube joycons.
No they are not as good as the original gamecube controler, but they sure are 10 times better than original joycons in handheld mode. Too bad they lack quality and quality control. I use the doyoky daily
Oh.. Good morning guys!
I would pick de hori wired version
The NYXI one feels so cheap, it's a shame. Also, those lights are very annoying at night.
you have te option to turn off the ligths of the controller
Thank you for being sane.
@@Phgaucho Alas, they don't stay off. Mine turn off randomly even when set to off. Such fun.
Which is better for smash bros. Ultimate?
Doyoky. Better buttons, better quality control. Much closer to OEM GameCube.
what's the game he's playing at around 5:31??
Hades
Thanks for the review! I don't even a have a switch but still found this entertaining. Great quality video as always. Hope to see your channel continue to grow.
idk, the NYXI kinda wins for the hall effect sticks alone. idk about you, but i wanna make sure my controller does not drift after playing Smash lol
They updated the Doyoky sticks as well in case you haven't seen. I'm trying to find a comparison with the changes from both, but haven't had luck.
When if Project Q will be released in late 2023?
youve sold me, wavebird with an adapter it is
Great video, we can get some inspiration in the video
Does anyone know what the game shown at 5:29 is? Thanks. Looks nice
Legacy of Goku 2
Both are horrible attempts to match the GC controller by people who don't understand the original.
Nyxi's is for sure. Doyoky actually did buy OEM GameCube controllers, which is why their is so much closer.
The Switch Pro Controller is way better. I don’t see the point to these other than aesthetic/style
The octagonal gate of the GCC design makes it easier to accurately choose your angles. Really important for games like Smash.
But... that doesn't slide into the JoyCon rails.
Not joy con but I'm still using the exlene game cube controller for 3 yrs and great budget choice and feels great. I had this before I had a pro but tbh I use this more.
Exlene is certainly an option, but not at its current price. I picked up an equivalent model for $15 USD this year (2023). $50 USD is just too high for it.
Can you fit the doyoky in a tomtoc hori splitpad pro case
Did he remove the sponsored nxyi video?
The nyxi is not $70 though...
These should be called the magecons
I like the mappable back buttons, but detest the Turbo feature because that immediately disqualifies them from official tournament settings (Smash audience that'd be the most interested in the controllers).
If someone can make one with Hall Effect Sticks and ditches the turbo, they'd get my money.
Genuinely, these are unsuitable for tournament-level play. Just not gonna fly.
I'm leaning towards the Doyoky, but the Nyxi comes in black.
Doyoky is releasing black GameCube JoyCons with Hall effect joysticks.
NYXI handsdown best one, now they just need to get their heads out their ass and add a USB port to the damn joycon block so we can charge the damn things together -_-
Which one is the better one? if there is 2?
This one you said offers motion and a bunch of other features.
Kinda sucks looking at other controllers are missing features like rumble. What gives.
Actually looking for third party controllers with motion. Because the one i have is broken. It's been reported being like that. Wonder if it would be any better or a fix at least. Just wanted to play HoTD really.
Doyoky's GameCube JoyCons are better. If you wait a bit, you can get their black version that has Hall effect sticks.
Both have gyro.
Very few third party controllers are including "HD" rumble. This might change in time.
Doyoky's quality control on their GameCube JoyCons is fantastic. Over a hundred hours in, and no issues.
@@CarrotsNotCake do you think the doyoky GameCube hall effect controller is better or the "Lumos" version, in terms of quality and overall feel of the buttons...
Do any of these feel like an actual GameCube controller? No
To varying degrees. Nyxi's grip is closer, but Doyoky's overall feel is closer, by a lot. Doyoky's is ultimately much closer than Nyxi's.
You should take the controllers plus’s other game cube style ones and put the best part from them together and make the best game cube style controller out of them
What I mean is do a video moving your own game cube style joycon
@@BMILLS123_ Thaaat is not as easy as it may seem. Parts do not match. I did compare Nyxi and Doyoky to the WaveBird, though. You might like that.
Good Abhinav😛
I wish the Retroflag controller was included in this comparison.
Yeah. By far is the most comfortable that I ever used. And also has hall effect sticks.
EXLENE gamecube controller is the Best
Too expensive, though. I grabbed an equivalent pair for 15 USD this year (2023), so 50 USD is waaaaaaaaaay too high.
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Got the NIXI controller and very disappointed with it. Not worth the novelty in my mind.
I miss my switch days
Am I the only one confused as to why these two are being compared? Even if the doyoky one felt better I'd still buy the nyxi specifically for the hall effect sticks
well, hall effect isn’t everything. my oem gamecube controller doesn’t use hall-effect sensors either, but i haven’t run into stick drift after twenty years of use. it’s important to note that the original nintendo joycons were a special case when it came to just how bad the drift problem was. assuming that these controllers are not built to be so exceptionally compromised as the original nintendo joycons, (and my look at both assures me they are not), hall effect sensors come across as nice, but unnecessary. with this in mind, good feeling sticks are much better to a lot of buyers than generic hall-effect sticks. the two are being compared because they are closely related alternatives to one another.
When the doyoky wins on ABYX buttons feel, triggers, D-pad, I would say it's a better option. Drift is not 100% happening on all controllers. At least that's my thinking
Nyxi has very poor quality control. Very poor. Doyoky does not. Doyoky said they'll release Hall effect black GameCube JoyCons this month. Doyoky's buttons are very close to GameCube's, Nyxi's are not. Wait for Doyoky's Hall, grab those.
@@appik6981 Hello, fellow sane person.
@@djcrazy941026 You're completely right.
Can we talk about how beautiful these videos look? Like hot damn this looks like a commercial. Kudos my man
First....
Attention seeking kids award
all of them are wrong because the gamecube controler sucks. yes its popular, yes its comfertable but the button layout is stupid
The Dookie sucks.
The nixis is way better!
