As a four gun skeet shooter, that’s the one thing I don’t like about four barrel sets the swing of the gun is affected by less weight of the sub gauges. A better solution for this gun would be to go with two 12 bore barrels. Ether have Longthorn reduce the weight on one then send it to Briley or just send the whole gun and have them reduce the weight on one of the barrels and use that as a carrier barrel. Having the carrier barrel and the tube set equal the weight of the standard barrel this is what I did with my gun. Briley just honed out one of the barrels, greatly reducing its weight and then balance them with my standard 12 gauge barrel. Sure looks like a great gun. Would love to try one.
When you got to the part that your criticism was that the safety should be in darker color and the forend should be more of a beavertail, I was sold. I'm buying one in 2025. Great review!
Interesting I have an early model side lock which I bought second hand.I have put a lot of cartridges through it with no issues.Serviced once by Longthorne at a reasonable price.I think you will find that any bespoke guns do not hold their value like say a standard Beretta 686 etc because the resale market is restricted massively because a bespoke gun will only fit a small percentage of people which obviously reduces the number of potential buyers. If you can find an example that fits you you’ve probably bought a bargain, but don’t expect to make a killing when you try to sell it in the future.
Hi Great Vid I shoot a 28 Bore its fantastic. The reason i bought one was the barrel tech. we could be using steel soon ! so i wanted a barrel that could take the pressures I use my own loads TSS through 3/4 chokes so im future proof. As for reliabitalty great i get it service and like all moving parts you can have problems. People still buy Range Rovers!!!! ang look what they cost. Regards Alan Robinson
Always torn between longthorne or William Powell. But learning that everything is in house has swung it for me as William Powell work in partnership with rizzine
Great video. Always liked the Longthorne shotguns. Was lucky enough to use the new Beretta SL2 for a few hours. Low recoil on that as well, nicest shotgun ive shot, and ive shot a few. Keep upthe good work
I have owned a Longthorne sidelock game gun since 2013. One of their early guns. Rather different to the trigger plate clay gun, you were shooting. It has been a great gun both on clays and game and has never let me down. As you say Jim is an engineering genius. They are a great company to deal with. Unlike some other english gunmakers, all the parts on their guns are made in their factory. My gun is actually worth more now than when I bought it new in 2013. Not many guns can hold their value so well.
@@roymartingunsmiths814 Amazed to read this comment by Mr. Maynard. I am a former owner of a Longthorne 20 bore, purchased for about 18K in 2018, and although a delight to handle and shoot, it was extremely unreliable, with repeated misfires and failures to eject. Longthorne were unable to diagnose the causes, and kept blaming the cartridges, Gamebore, Eley, etc, and I reluctantly sold the gun via Holts Auctioneers this year for 6K, so definitely did not hold value well in the real world! I should also add that Longthorne offered to buy the gun back from me for 6K, a year after I purchased for 18K!
@@christopherhindle1174I can vouch for having no issues even when changing barrels. Issues do arise with any manufacturers in any industry which is why new items carry a warranty.
@@christopherhindle1174 I am sorry to hear of your problems Christopher. They are completely different to my experiences with Longthorne. For example about 5 years ago I sent my gun in for a full service. This cost less than £300 and included replacing parts that had been upgraded since the gun was made six years previously. On it's return to my local RFD the fore end had been damaged in transit and was split. I contacted Longthorne and Elaine told me to return it by Royal Mail. Rather than trying to repair it, they made a brand new fore end. They sent it back to me along with a cap, all totally free of charge. Superb service.
We are very happy to say that its current owner is delighted with it and now has 3 Longthorne’s and not had any issues whatsoever with it. It is also worth noting that we were sent the gun by Holts when they received it, we repaired a broken ejector which would typically have been identified at service.
So, how does the barrels handle the leading from those fiber wad loads your government requires you to shoot? Great video by the way- keep them coming.. My Krieghoff K-80 Balances on the hinge with the 12 ga. or 20 ga. barrel installed and moves at the same pace- feels exactly the same as you shoot.......
We are required by our government to shoot fibre wads? Huh, I better dispose of all my plastic wad shells and inform the several shops thay have sold them to me.
I always said I’ll get a Longthorne when I receive some inheritance so got the inheritance and bought a Caesar Guerini Invictus ll Asent and put the rest in the bank 👍👍
Regardless of the quality (or lack thereof) of their guns, the way they treat their business partners is, not great, to put it mildly. It may be worth dropping Johnny Carter a message - wouldn't want you being taken advantage of in the same way...
1600fps? Jesus. I'll stick with 1250 lol. I really like the look and concept of their all matte black Victory models. I checked 'em out recently and wanted to love 'em, but they're just too small and dainty for me. I'm used to my chunky Kolar Max Lite and in comparison, Longthornes are just too svelt.
Anyone then thinking about buying one don't. At least not yet. At one point I was considering one. After talking to people who own them and hearing about constant reliability issues from multiple people and poor customer service & lack of wanting to cover repairs under warranty doing anything to blame the customer I would invest your money elsewhere. This is what i've heard from several longthorne owners out on comp days. Go for a more established maker. Yes Longthorne has this "new" barrel tech which has been around forever but there's a reason other makers don't do it. Do you not think its weird that recently 2 sponsored shooters from longthorne handed their guns back and terminated their deals? Apparently one of their barrels blew and the other suffered constant reliability issues. Only what i've heard may be wrong. To say you can get a base k-80 yes not as svelt but certainly a better tool or even a perrazi for similar money i'd take that route.
It is important to base decisions on facts rather than hearsay. Blankets statements like ‘don’t buy’ can be misleading, especially when based on 2nd hand information. If someone is genuinely interested in purchasing we openly encourage thorough research, including speaking to ourselves, asking questions, getting truthful answers, consider a broader range of reviews, read our testimonials. Naturally there is ‘push back’ against Longthorne by more established market contenders and those people who are supported by them. It is always wise to verify rumours before spreading them. The claim about sponsored shooters handing their guns back and terminating deals with Longthorne simply is not true. Our sponsorship deals are a private concern between ourselves and them and are reviewed from time to time, neither have our barrels ‘blown’. They are all proofed for high performance steel which is a testament to their strength. Longthorne is known for precision and craftsmanship and has a strong customer base who appreciates this. As for your suggestion that a base K80 or Perazzi is a better option, that’s a matter of personal preference, not a universal truth. Before jumping to conclusions it’s important to get facts straight and consider that different shooters have different needs and preferences. Spreading unfounded rumours does not help anyone.
