unless all the cartridges are loaded with the same wad and powder charge and shot through the same barrel and choke not sure any comparison of pellet size performance is that valid. Theory is sound as discussed within the video.
Have noticed in last 10/15 years how cartridges have improved in leaps n bounds ... have plastered stuff 50/60/ yds with 9 pistons and can,t believe the breaks.. also 24gms do the job too... (1/2 choke )+ Good breaks with Fibre`s Sean,s dead right wi 61/2`s too
Take a look at “The Clay Lab” video in which they did a very good comparative study of the relative effects 7.5, 8, and 9 shot. They concluded 8 shot was the best selection.
Have picked up many unbroken clays with dimples in the edge shot with 8 and 9. Not very many shot with 7 1/2. That extra 5 thousandth makes a BIG difference.
When experimenting the rule is to only change one thing at a time. You are using different systems eg piston cartridges.chokes and pellet sizes??? I’ve tested a 24 gr fibre wad and found it surprisingly shot a tighter pattern than 28 gr plastic.
Firstly. The E bird is as hard as it looks 😅 I’ve always used 7.5 what ever brand I’ve had for clays. Now using the hull superfast reccomended by yourself but I’ve never really dived into the choke set up and shot size. Always just the biggest I can use at the ground. As I was told by a mr T Tindall who Sean will remember very well. Bigger shot means cleaner hit 😂 I’ll have to book in with him at e.j.C and get this 525 on point… cheers for the vid Ed. Legend as always.
What do the Olympics shooters shoot like 9 21g i shoot 7.1/2 21g for general clay . 5 for game 32g Kill not wound. And if it was high high bird a little bit more. But dont often go for that. Walk up mostly. But as you daid you shoot what works. Amd open top and 1/2 bottom.
Shooting different sizes from DIFFERENT shells just muddies the water. Seems to me that comparing different shot sizes in the SAME shell would eliminate one variable. Same could be said about using different chokes. This video gives no new data. Shot size is always a trade-off; pattern density vs. individual pellet energy. Compromise is the name of this game, whether it applies to shot size or chokes.
Love how people hate on fibre wad cartridges yet a pro piston is essentially doing the same job as a fibre wad. It doesn't spread any more than a fibre shell. The shot cup is just a massive obturator.
@roymartingunsmiths814 thanks for the swift reply. In your opinion is the Guerini Summit Impact Sporting a good all round gun (skeet and sport) for a new shooter?

I really like Sean Bramley comment on chokes it was spot on. When shooting SC here in the States I use LM/LM then change shot size to address targets.
I shoot the same for competitions but 3/4 3/4 for practice

I noticed you shoot top barrel first. In the US a lot of us shoot bottom first to reduce muzzle flip. Any strategy here? Thanks!
This comes from a gaming shooting perspective, loading the top barrel on a single shot is much easier than the bottom barrel
Describing shot used by a brand name makes this video hard work
All explained all cartridges are 28g and it’s the shot size that we changed which again is mentioned through out
I use 7.5 shot 1250's B&P's and 1250 little Rino's as well

24grams for olympics
6/30 for most game, inc snipe, through 3/8 chokes. 5/30 or 5/32 for the higher stuff or late in the season, through 1/2 chokes

Should have repeated the last shot with the #9 with skeet choke or 1/4. I bet it still would have broken

It would all depend on the situation. As Sean said a fibre wad 9 is great for close range but a plastic wad 6.5 would perform better than in fibre wad
Is shot size the same across all calibres?
E.g is 7.5 in 12g still 7.5 in .410?
Yes, individual shot sizes are the same through out all shotgun calibres. The only thing that changes is the amount/grams of shot in the cartridge
@@roymartingunsmiths814 Cheers
What gun is Edward shooting with here
I’m shooting a 30” Caesar Guerini Invictus Ascent 1 in this video

7.5 shot for everything works for me 🔥 great video mate and thank you to Shaun for sharing his knowledge 👍👍
What choke do you use with your 7.5? I use 7.5 and half choke on everything
That was always my way
please let me know the name of the shooting ground it looks very good for long targets
This was filmed at Cockett farm shooting ground
What chokes do you shoot and size
I shoot 3/4 3/4 for practice and 3/8 3/8 in comps
Ive never seen a 6.5 or 7. 4,5,6,7.5, 8, and 9.
It's like fishing tackle....it's designed to catch anglers not fish
I always thought the biggest shot size was 7s at clays
You can use anything up to a 6.5 in 28g
When ban lead take effect in UK ?
Dont hold your breath
We don’t have any solid answers
