My wife bought Archie's book for me as a Xmas present back in the 70 s, them days it was the bible for pigeon shooting. Fond memories of wonderful days in the field.
Fantastic, vintage gold 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Land Rovers and SBS guns 😎 I have the Land Rover but use a semi auto for all my pigeon shooting. Thanks for uploading this great bit of film 🤩
Yes I used to have a talk with John Batley ever time I visited the game fairs very nice person I did a lot of pigeon shooting I once asked John could I have a day shooting with him his reply : it will cost you a arm and a leg . Happy Days Archie Coat fine shot 550 pigeons on one letter day .
Major A.J.Coats - the Godfather of Pigeon shooting back in the day. I believe he is a native of Ayrshire in Scotland. Shot the record bag of 500 plus back in the 60's from a bale hide. Jack Charlton also done a video with him during the " Jacks Game " series which aired on mainstream TV. Doubt if that would happen today ??
Absolutely brilliant, I’d heard he made a living shooting pigeons. I’ve been watching “washwildfowler” channel. Dewayne and Chris make some good films too.
Hi, Thanks for your comment. Yes Archie is acknowledged as being the first proffessional pigeon shooter in the UK. He held the record for the most shot in one day (550) for quite a long time. He covered mainly Hampshire but had permission in many other counties. Thanks for the heads up on the Fowler channel. Will certainly have a look.
Hi. I know the ones you mean, but no, I didn't buy them at the time. Wish I had though. Have you contacted Holland and Holland. They may have them archived. Or maybe BASC will have copies.
@@beverleykeeble2490 I've had a Wembley and Scott 700, the top tang is too long also the trigger tang is elongated, also the shoulders are more pronounced than that of a Webley. Although he did shoot a Webley 700 at times.
When I was a kid living on the farm, dad got me two books, pigeon shooting and game keeping by Mr Coates, I read those books many times over.
Thanks for your comment. I also have the pigeon shooting book. Great read.

Yes indeed. I got my copy in the 60's, LOL. Still have it now as no doubt you do. A lot of what he said then, still applies today.
I was lucky enough to met Archie many years ago in the CLA game fair in Harewood House in Leeds. A true gentleman
I'm glad you got to meet the legend. Thanks for your comment

“John batley always wears a waste jacket no matter how hot the weather & a hat with peak for camouflage”……and a cream/white shirt 🤷🏻♂️
is john batley still shooting pigeons.is he still alive.
Yes he is still with us and does still shoot pigeon but I think has something to do with the BASC or a similar body, as a consultant
Always wonder what make and model that boxlock is, Archie is using at the beginning.
I believe it was a Webley 700 boxlock ejector

@@beverleykeeble2490 correct ! and I believe it may well have been given to him by the Company ??
