Maybe, but the poor writing was inevitable. Anytime a Hollywood genre gets huge - movie musicals, Westerns, the Disney Renaissance - everyone and their brother tries their hand at making their own. Eventually, each genre gets to a point where the market is so saturated with movies made by people who have no business making them that the audience tunes out. In the case of superhero movies, _Deadpool and Wolverine_ is the exception that proves the rule

Yes, but don't forget Asian are no longer considered minorities and are now grouped together with majority Whites. Washington Schools first did this because the test scores of Asian students, number of intact Asian households, Asian home ownership rates and etc was skewing all of their "victimhood" statistics. Once they included Asians with Whites the disparity between them and the remaining "minorities" became even larger. It was a big win.
And there is a rather large high tech company which was recently caught telling managers that when going for bonuses for hiring minorities that Asians are NOT an "under represented" minority in tech unless they are gender non-conforming, gender-fluid, z00philiic (yes, that means what you think and no, you don't want that word in your search history) or otherwise part of the Queer Community.
So the presence of Asians in a show does not necessarily add to the number of "minorities" and therefore does nothing to increase "diversity."

I mean it happened in the comics and there should be no issue with it, the issue was how it was handled and treated in the show as if it’s a race issue and that it mattered this way which it doesn’t at all.
And then they never had the new Cap show up in any other shows ever like a complete waste of his character which is a shame I like the actor.
Cap is supposed to be a leader, a man who’s in the frontlines with his men and very important to the point he’s in most movies cuz he is trying to keep everyone together to better save the world as a team but they didn’t do that so it just seems like a race swap which it shouldn’t be, they are different characters so while he takes the title he will come with his own spin to it which could of been interesting if done well.

While I do love mythology in my superhero stories, the Eternals have never fit in the Marvel universe. They didn't in the comics, and they don't in the movies. Getting to Endgame already felt like a bit of a slog, but fans were so invested at this point that they wanted to see the showdown of what was teased in Iron Man back in 2008 and really started with Avengers in 2011. After that... people were just tired. The only franchise that kept going strong after Endgame was Spiderman and that was mainly Sony and not Marvel. The fact that they're bringing back Robert Downey Jr. to play a Dr. Doom/Iron Man hybrid says it all. They're eating through the crumbs at this point and keep releasing these underperforming, overproduced, overmarketed movies and shows that no one wants to see anymore. It's said that a movie needs to rake in about 2-3 times its production costs just to break even at this point.

    • @LeaderOfTheLostSouls
      @LeaderOfTheLostSouls 27 дней назад

I don’t agree with this fully, I never felt this way about the mcu like it was not a slog for me only pussies feel that way tbh cuz most movies were good and enjoyable.
I don’t agree with the whole dumbass narrative of superhero fatigue cuz if the content was mostly good they would be fine with it as seen with people still loving it when good shit is made. The only issues that is an issue besides the quality of new shit is that, 1 they pumped out way too many shows making it hard for causals to keep up if they didn’t have Disney+, 2 the shows were not well connected it felt too disjointed and the whole phase was a mess I mean the New cap was never shown again when Cap is supposed to be the leader to keep the team together to better help the world and he is a symbol for America and the world yet he’s nowhere, 3 when they fuck up they drop shit as if it never happened and just make some things worthless to watch, and etc. and ofc the woke lazy shitty characters like iron heart no one asked for being added over actual characters is a sin.
I agree with pretty much everything else you said but I don’t think RDJ being DOOM is inherently bad if they do something like when Dr.DOOM took the body of Tony in the comics and Tony is stuck in DOOM’s body it could be Kool yet it does seem desperate and could be bad so I hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

The idea behind the eternal (immortal heroes guiding history but ultimately working for evil) is an interesting one, but given Infinity War and Endgame, it couldn’t be set on Earth in the MCU. There were just too many “Why didn’t they show up to help?” hoops and suspensions of disbelief to jump through that even if it was good (and it wasn’t), it was always going to be a struggle to make it work. They should have just been on some other planet and them met the Guardians of the Galaxy in the credits and headed to Earth after. It’s not great, but it’s better than a giant head and hand in an ocean that has to be ignored by every other movie (despite being the greatest disaster in human history other than the snap).

Eternals is a concept they've never been able to sell to comics fans. It originally came about when Jack Kirby returned to Marvel after creating the New Gods at DC. Even then, only Darkseid really resonated. He took the same basic outline to create the Eternals (i.e. massively powerful godlike beings fighting a secret war for millenia). I don't believe he originally wrote them to be part of the Marvel Universe, but they got shoved in fairly soon after. That led to the problem of yet ANOTHER secret society of superhumans hidden away from humanity. Also, their origins were so close to that of the Inhumans that they had to retcon that the Eternals was where the Kree got the idea from. They also linked them to a colony of superhumans on Saturn, which roped in Thanos.

To be fair, the foundation of the MCU's success was not built on the guiding principle of giving audiences what they want. Audiences didn't ask for an Iron Man movie, or a Hulk reboot, or a Thor movie, or a Captain America movie, or a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, etc. In fact, Marvel was heaped with praise for taking "C-list" characters nobody knew or cared about and turning them into beloved pop culture icons. The problem isn't that Marvel stopped "giving audiences what they want". The problem is that they forgot how to make good movies. Because if they had stayed on the quality path, I maintain that even movies like Eternals could have succeeded as much as Guardians of the Galaxy.

I've said before, Deadpool and Wolverine was green lit over the objections of Fiege, and RDJ is 59, how long can he continue to play a convincing comic book villain? He spent eleven years playing Iron man which would make him 70 in a similar length run. Not really credible is it? RDJ is not the long term solution to the MCU's problem, even assuming the special effects and writing are spot on, it's a short term cash grab to bring Disney back into a position to pay dividends and give Iger breathing room. What their long term solution is remains to be seen.

I still believe that part of the reasons for the drop off in Phase 4 is two fold:
    1) A lot of us who were there from the beginning decided to stop after Endgame. Now, we only watch the ones that seem interesting but we don't care about following every character anymore
    2) Disney oversaturated the market after Endgame.
Yea, there's the whole forced woke crap but in reality, that didn't turn off that many people compared to the two above reasons.

Yet now that both those IP's have been run into the ground we see Disney returning to its own IP's to save them. Or at least slow the bleeding profit/loss wise.

Even before the movie came out, I wasn't sold on it. The biggest problem it has it that it's hyping up the Eternals to replace the Avengers. You have the characters talking about who'll replace Iron Man and Captain America. You have one of them saying that Thor used to be obsessed with them. None of them have earned the right to replace any of the characters introduced between 2008 and 2019 except Captain Marvel. They didn't pull their weight to stop Thanos but the writers used a hokey excuse that they don't get involved in human affairs. I still remember this one comment blowing up on the trailer.
    Eternals: Is everyone okay?
Iron Man: No thanks to you.

The true ending for the marvel cinematic universe was and is infinite war. End game was so poorly written it's laughable. The sad part is the original story of end game was originally going to be Thanos teaming up with the classic avengers to stop his snap from happening. Tony Stark was going to show Thanos the utter deviation of his snap. Planes falling from the sky, multiple crashes of vehicles around the universe that destroyed more than half the galaxy population. Lawlessness of planets, starvation, war, lack of supply. All created by his snap. So Thanos and the avengers seek help from the collector. The collector says the only one to fix the infinite stones is the beyonder. So they make a deal with the beyonder. If they can convince the young Thanos that his views are flawed and to bring the infinite stones back to the beyonder. Then he will allow the change to be permanent if they fail the snap will happen. So the beyonder sends them back to before the snap. They succeed but only the people that went to the past remember what happened after the snap the only one exception is Doctor strange. He thanks them for saving the universe. The end credits were going to be the beyonder, Madame Webb, and the collector. Discussing the value of heroes and villains. Leading to the secret wars movie. All this was written by Jon favreau. Which Kevin feige threw out at the start of phase 4. Do you remember spiderman no way home. Yeah Sony took Jon favreau secret wars script to make that movie. In secret wars the beyonder was going to bring dead villains to fight the heroes. Just like the multiple spidermen fighting dead villains in no way home.

Only two things ever made the Eternals remotely relevant in the comics:
The first is that Thanos was one of them.
The second is that three of them - Gilgamesh, Sersi, and Starfox (Thanos's twin brother Eros) - were members of the Avengers back in the 80s (when being on the team still sort of meant something).
But making MCU Thanos some random alien rendered them completely meaningless to the MCU.

The Incredible Hulk box office revenue is a bit misleading too, it actually made 33 million more dollars than The Eternals did when adjusted for inflation and that was considered an absolute flop in 2008 but you'll have people defend movies like The Eternals coping and seething about it, how the times have changed LOL

Dave neglected to mention that Sheng Chi was released in 2021, when the pandemic and its aftereffects was still wrecking havoc with economies.
    That includes box office.
And the box office numbers overall have never returned to pre pandemic levels.

It's simply the natural process of evolution. The sub-par Eternals got pruned from the tree of life.
Not so eternal as they thought they were.

Disney had the best material to kickstart a new hero movie journey with their acquisition of Fox that started in 2017 and was finalized in 2019, the year Endgame released. They could have used the homecoming for the X-Men and Fantastic 4 to startup a new phase from there. I don't know why they decided to go the path they went.

Maybe to some smaller degree, but another reason it possibly didn't do well was the unnecessary/annoying race/sex swapping of the known superheros (this was around the time 'Snowflake' and 'Safespace' characters were invented too)...

You can’t blade those two movies for there falling at the box office because they came out durning during Covid. Plus Black Widow was in the movie theaters and streamed on Disney plus at the same time. The numbers of people who saw it on Disney was not counted in the totals and most people watched it more then once at that time.

It's a bit unfair to call Shang-Chi a box office failure based on when it was released. It also holds a 91% Critic and 98% Audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That movie didn't lead to fewer people watching the Eternals.

This will be an interesting knock on effect.
Does this spill over to Black Knight?
Do issues with Black Knight spill over to Blade?
Do Issues with Blade spill over into the talks on Midnight Suns?
My current guess is if they do plan to continue with Black Knight, aspects of the eternals storyline will be incorporated there as a means of wrapping up the story.
Blade's already been in production hell that I'm waiting for the official announcement of it's cancelation. With Mahershala Ali being moved into a battelworld cameo with Secret Wars...
Very much shaping up the the Doom story line will be for the most part a major reset. Shaking the MCU free of all the recent stuff that hasn't been working, and attempting to shift focus back to the pre-Endgame-era, with a higher level of attention to faithful adaptations as were seen with Deadpool & Wolverine.
