- Snow White is Disney's next Snow White and the 7 dwarfs movie featuring Rachel Zegler. Snow White premieres in cinemas before ending on Disney+ but can the Snow White live action remake replicate the success of its animated original? Snow White Trailer was released by Disney and yet again Rachel Zegler caused more drama around the marketing. Far from just being able to talk about the movie, which has enough problems on it's own. Rachel Zegler talking about issues that directly oppose her co-star Gal Gadot became even more talked about than the trailer itself. How long will it be before Disney start telling their actors to stop talking about controversial issues while staring in their products? But despite Disney no doubt hoping the Snow White delay would have let the drama surrounding the movie die down, that seems to have failed. Militant messages being toned down, CGI dwarfs being added in last minute in an attempt to stave off audience laughter. This movie has every kind of problem. And as it turns into a stack of people attempting to eat each other, I'm here to laugh. But what did you think of what you saw? Maybe if they went by the original folklore, dwarves were regarded as almost demigods, they were revered as protectors of miners, for a country that made its living by mining that was HUGE, they LOVED the dwarves, maybe inserting that sort of thing would, I don't know, help the stereotype

@@MemoristCed Not just Hollywood types. Plenty of everyday women think earning money via posting "content" on spicy websites (accessible for "only" $4.99 a month) is less dehumanizing than working a 9-5.
It also shows her humility since she is a princess and could very easily order them to let her stay, but she doesn't. She instead trades her own skills from her time as her stepmother's scullery maid for extended room and board which is probably what first endears her to the dwarves.
However, if they wanted to show the dwarves doing housework, just have them offer to help Snow while she's working.
Imagine you and your colleagues coming home after a hard day's work in the mine, only to find that a stranger is in your shared flat, handing out housework. Weird, weird. 😂
It's strange how they took a family relationship of mutual respect and support ("We'll each do the work we're best equipped for and we'll all be happier, healthier, and better together!") and turned it into a hierarchy of competing needs.
I wonder if they're still going to have Grumpy lead the charge to defend her, or if she's going to do it herself.

Why does Disney think femininity and kindness aren't traits of a strong women? Not every woman has to be some boss bitch to be strong or a good character. Snow white had the queen trying to kill her, lost her home, had nothing and nowhere to go and still showed kindness through it all and tried to make the best of her situation while trying to help those who were helping her. Thats amazing and something you don't see often especially not anymore. Allow women to be feminine rather than saying the only women worth promoting are those who exhibit more traditionally masculine traits. I think there is a place for those more badass women too but that is a pace where it feels natural rather than constantly forced. I would rather see kind, flawed, feminine women, than constant perfect, badass, good at everything without even trying women. Thank you for coming to my ted talk XD

Here me out girl, she literally gets banished, decides to put on a brave face and endure it and fight for her life (in that dark forest), then she still finds the strength to help some dwarves with their stuff. And all off this, while she’s gagging us with her flawless dress and perfect makeup. Like sorry Rachel, but you could never.

The concept of Snow White’s “beauty” in the original story was not based just on looks, but her inner beauty. This girls got neither…
There's a lot to unpack there: 1) You speak of nuance (Hollywood does not have prefrontal cortex to understand/distinguish for it). 2) You actually are familiar with the source material(Hollywood openly rejects the idea of reading original works if not explicitly paid AND forced to do so). 3) You didn't jump on the very first shallow meaning of everything and then misappropriate it out of context to try and be seen as a victim (so you're not American).

I agree with his take that Disney should be considerate and not ridicule dwarves in their movie, but the source material is not ridiculing dwarves at all. 7 actors with dwarfism could've made a ton of money with this movie and now Hollywood will forever be afraid to cast real dwarves for dwarf roles. He should've given Disney advice on how to represent dwarves correctly, instead of taking away their job opportunities.

The dumber part is that the "dwarves" in Snow White are not supposed to be humans with dwarfism anyway. They are literally mythical creatures that we in English just happened to use for actual little people's medical conditions.
One of the things that cracks me up is that people think the story is taking place in real time or that they have seen everything that has happened. In the original Disney she had met the prince before and it was alluded that there was a pre-existing clandestine relationship (he came upon her singing early in the film). He wasn’t just “stalking her.” He knew something was wrong and the true heir whom he had feelings for and had been oppressed was MIA….so he searched 🤦♀️ There is always more to the story than what you read on the page or see on the screen.
The people who keep yapping about the prince "stalking" snow white obviously has never seen the original film just like rachel. Which begs the question why are they so embarrassingly stupid?😭😭😭

I find it hilarious Peter Dinklage has an issue with how the dwarfs were portrayed in Snow White (hard working miners who help out a homeless woman) yet is ok with how they are represented in Disney's new rendition (slaves forced by a stranger into servitude). I'm pretty sure it's because he doesn't want another dwarf person overshadowing him since he really isn't that great of an actor. So by saying something like that, it prevents other studios from making movies with dwarves and actually have a necessity for dwarf actors. By saying this, he's pretty much going to complain about how ANY dwarf person is portrayed. Everyone loves the 7 dwarves. With people like him, there's no pleasing them.
Makes me think about Willow, an 80s movie that had a whole people made up of actors with dwarfism. The main character and hero was a little person! It worked then, and very well so. Why is it suddenly problematic to give actors with dwarfism acting roles in a big picture?Because one actor said that he doesn't like it?
This was a stellar opportunity at representation since 7 people + stunt doubles would have had a role. The CGI change made it even worse because now they treat dwarves as mythical creatures instead of real people.

It amazes me that no one references Snow White and the Huntsman. They already did this - girlboss Snow White, dwarfs played by regular sized actors using LOTR-style camera trickery, etc. Yet somehow Disney keeps acting like this is the first time a live action film has been made in 40 years. I get that this is a remake of their animated film, but the basic concepts are all there.
Or mirror mirror. They also used actual little people and in the story they used to have jobs like teachers etc but were outcast by the queen because they didn’t fit her beauty standard. And Snow White fights alongside the dwarfs

Disney is waaay so detached of what a “modern world” and “representation” means. Live actions is supposed to relive the fantasy of its origin. The story have already represented enough and they are taking the beauty in it. Girl Boss is a facade and Snow white is kind, hopeful and resilient, these traits are worth representing.

As this point I kind of want to see this Snow White movie have a reversal like with Malificent, where the traditional villain in the story is actually a hero/anti-hero. Only Snow White has become a villain-like character because she is becoming a terror with these changes to the story.

I grew up having a childhood crush on Snow White. When I visited Disney Land at the age of 17 and the girl playing Snow White acted all bashful and cute, I'm not too ashamed to admit I fan boyed out a bit and even my girlfriend got a bit jealous.

I agree. Disney lost out BIG . They missed a huge PR hype, they could have cast an UNKNOWN as Snow, and made it a big deal of "searching" for the right person to play snow white. Had girls dress up as Snow and read the audition and post it. They would have found someone GRATEFUL for the chance and showing it. Some fresh faced girl. Snow wasn't my fave princess (that's Aurora) but I liked her plenty fine before Ziegler started talking trash about the original movie.

All the while she managed to attract a prince who loved her voice initially which lead him to saving her from eternal sleep. SOUNDS LIKE A WIN TO ME. I'd feel like a badass if this were my own story. 🤷😆

Would be fun if they made it a modern parody: after she got kicked out she needed 7 roommates to afford rent in the city she fled to, they are all fresh out of collage and little men at the bottom of the corporate ladder, she helps them with taxes cause she knows the how the system works and what goverment grants they are eligible for, but is clueless how to clean (since she was the princes and knows the system), later she learns to do all the financial planning for the entire house-hold and argues with the landlord about renters rights and that he needs to come fix the place up. The prince is a doctor and saves her cause he loves his job, the poison is paralyzing, "true loves' kiss" is CPR keeping her heart going until the poison wears off, the glass box is a modern hospital where her 7 roommates took her and the doctor becomes king in the end cause snow white was uninsured (and American) and owes like half her kingdom to him now.

So, I went ahead and watched the original and I think people don't realize that the evil queen forced Snow White to be a maid of the castle. Take that into foreshadowing- when she ends up at the Dwarves home, she ends up negotiating and getting to stay because she offers to play as housekeeper in exchange for a place to live. The one thing that was used to enslave her has become something that ends up empowering and helping her in her time of need. It was intelligently written. It also shows that Snow White has enhanced the lives of the 7 dwarves with her feminine touch into their shabby and messy home. The order that she brings shows that she is fit to be a leader, and therefore, better for the throne then the wicked queen.

Lily Collins truly embodied the innocence and beauty of Snow White. Is casting so difficult? I really wish we got to see actual actors for the roles of Seven dwarves . Snow White is a fairytale, it didn’t need to be drastically updated. Fairytale dwarves are different from real life dwarfs or little people. There’s a whole canon behind fairytale dwarves, so little people don’t have to get all up in arms about portrayal. Snow White doesn’t have to be a warrior princess.
To be fair, fairytale dwarfs are very much based on real life dwarfs.
@@MrLuc420 not really, dwarves in fairytales come from dwarves in germanic mythology which are very much magical characters similar to elves, and are associated more with magic and crafts than being small.
