    Excellent move getting a tractor. This morning I drove to my neighbor's house to use their phone (Landline phone is the pits in this county.) and as I started to go, I noticed they had hired some kid to move a pile of delivered gravel using a shovel and he was not a good worker. This couple was in their 80's. I thought to myself, they could have asked me and I could have moved the entire pile in a few minutes with my 19 hp Ford diesel with a bucket that I have built roads, drainage ditches, brought in firewood. Getting your tractor will be the most important decision on your experience. At my age arthritis slows me down but with my backhoe attachment I have nothing more to do. But really, you will never run out of work to do.

    We built our barn first and lived in it for 2 years while building the house. Living room, bedroom and bathroom. Bought a fema trailer and sat it on the slab for the kitchen. Put the tires back on and sold it when we finished the house.

    Hey DANIEL, good buy. the two things I recommended to my other buddies who moved to Idaho on 10 acres was a 84 inch wide skip loader with an enclosed cab like you got and a dump trailer. I’m not sure if you have a dump trailer or not but that’s some thing I think you will need at some point unless you have a neighbor that you can share services with. Congratulations you can drive it anywhere on your property and use it as a third or fourth person. Great great buy!!

    Watching you struggle with pulling the main line to the barn through the conduit had me thinking of a fix I came up with doing the same thing at work. I made a point on the end of the wire by cutting the wire at a very steep angle and smoothly taping over it, securing it to the pull rope. This took away the "catch" that snagging on a joint in the conduit. Keep this in mind if you need to pull more line through.

    The cab is mandatory for comfort and safety. Wait till you break a window. When you blow yellow jackets out of the air filter you will kiss the glass. A hydraulic top link for the 3 pt is wonderful for box blade and hooking up. Next implement is a grader blade. Unless you have run one you have no idea you want it

    Bought the same model a year ago (traded in an 1835m open station). My Real life lifting experience with the loader is about 1800-1900lb with a set of forks with weight on a pallet. Had very good luck with it once the front cylinder hose that was leaking was replaced. I replaced the work lights with LED's (made my own brackets for them). Why they don't installed them factory installed, not sure. Mine is a hydro model (which I love). Attachments can get addicting. Love mine also.

    That’s quite a bit of tractor. I went with a Kioti based on price. Happens to be the closest dealer as well. With gravel roads, snow, General moving things around point A to point B etc. You may have the dead drop bucket..I just press forward on the bucket as though I’m lowering it and it drops without hydro. I tilt the bucket down and back up scraping that way too..I can rent one for more than the price I pay a month. Massey was my next choice.. though I was listening to “Deadwood” music for a second..lol

    Hey since your from “ Down South”. (Learned not to say California quickly to avoid stink eye) let me advise you. If you have a frost line there make sure you install freeze proof fawcetts and spigots in pole barn. Those cool farm looking red farm style spigots have a purpose. Study up on them. Don’t buy cheap ones. Buy name brand so you can rebuild them. Also your hos3 will freeze, reason for inside spigots. All stuff I learned.

    Woo Hoo! Two questions:
    What are your arrangements for tractor fuel? And second, will you have full-hookups for the trailer in the pole barn? BTW, someone may correct me but I think if you are primarily growing crops (which I don't think you are) it's a farm. Otherwise cattle and livestock it is a ranch. Growing a garden notwithstanding.

    • @YouMeandtheFencePost
      @YouMeandtheFencePost  Год назад

      When we go into town we fill up fuel cans as needed. Yes! We’ll have full hookups, but we’ll probably continue to fill the tank with water instead of keeping the hose connected

I have been reading up a lot on that and also wanted your input. I know there are a lot of factors like location and temperature/weather and so on. You guys are doing great we are in the same boat leaving Murrieta, California last year and have been working our 10 acres and living in our RV ever since can't wait for the pole barn it's going to be nice to get inside with the RV.
