Sometimes needs must, we have 25 acres stopped up for fourth cut which we won’t be doing till about the 20 th or so of September, it’s not like we don’t need the grass but it’s just an awkward patch that is just easier to cut and we are about 500 tonnes short of silage so it’s a case of every little helps and we might have another bit if we get a bit of a surge in growth and it gets a bit too strong for zero grazing. Best of luck from Wicklow.
you sure matched Tom in that last field , love seeing that Puma pulling up that hill wile the Deere was stuck , would have been better if Calvin had not had that little issue but that happens to us all so Calvin some may laugh but it happens to them too
Reminds me of my dad's efforts over the years to cut silage in Westmeath, so many years it was super wet and the tractors would be sliding all over the place, especially on fields with large hills on them. And they didn't have such nice equipment either, none of the tractors were 4wd, never mind having double wheels. I guess the good news is that you've ploughed the fields early to make reseeding them easier ;-)
Getting more impressed with the JF each time it comes out. Our old 900 and 1050 would always let us down when the pressure was on. They have finally built a great machine.
Meanwhile down in cork, we finally got the first decent rain in 3 months….yes you read that correctly. The ground finally softened from almost concrete since mid May….crazy country.
Remember baling silage in the wet 1 summer and as I finished wrapping I looked at the tracks we’d made and thought it would be terrible but the heavy rain washed most of the tracks out to be fair!
Nice job you got it in as well as you could, couple of weeks the last field won't look half as bad just a terrible year in general let's hope we don't see many more like it.
Well thats your last field ploughed then 😉 You can only work with what you have. It'll be a year you will look back upon when things are bad and think at least it's not as bad as 2024. You probabaly already have a few of them to help you through this year.
Intersting video. You should consider getting an old 8 foot trailed mower on standby you could use on your smaller massey for wet periods. You have nearly 10t total weight at the minute I'd say.
umm.......i always thought the advantage of doing your own silage was so you could do it in the dry windows.........my opinion is nobody makes good silage in the rain
Better to work away Andrew. Waiting for weather is a non runner this year. lf Calvin wasnt doing his housework and tidying the cab he wouldnt stall the tractor! Puma 1 Deere 0
Why would you even consider mowing and raining as well what difference would a' few days make if you waited forr it to dry that silage will be a disaster
Total disaster far to wet with little or no wilt and a lot of mud end up making some rubbish silage then expect cows to milk on it more like get health problems with the cows. Be making silage for 35 years and only been caught in rain to make that sort mess but never go out mowing with ground that wet. Very often waiting a few days, can make all the difference.
Did Tom Pemberton not say "Andrew told me to get on with it and not wait for the rain"🤯🤬hippocrit 😜 What kind of soup did the compactor make of that or was it not used?🤨
Listeria contamination can be a big issue. What do you do when one cow starts going around in circles? Do you dump the complete pit of silage? It might be the safest option.
Your not alone Andrew, you done a grand job,the value of ploughing is clear to be seen keep up the great videos 👍

You done your best and that's all that matters.👏
Great Video Andrew, I agree chalk it up as a win, The Highlight has got to be the JD getting stuck, Thanks for sharing
You will be very happy next spring when the silage is needed. Field can be sorted
You're not the only one showing the less glamorous side of silage this year. Your wee lad might make an auctioneer yet 😂

Just takes a bit of maintenance after each outting, nothing much, just a quick check over.
You got’er done, and all your kit’s still working. 👍👍
Alwys good honest content…keep the music out!..you got the silage…yaayy

Crazy! 😅

Honestly the field looks so much better now!
Mighty honestly video, grass looks decent. Pity about the ground.
What a challenging year.
Fair play
V. Good job you've made Andrew under the Wet Circumstances. Hope the Silage comes out well for the Cows 🐄
Nice job you got it in as well as you could, couple of weeks the last field won't look half as bad just a terrible year in general let's hope we don't see many more like it.
What a strange island we live on. Your swamped with rain and I have no grass in county meath with drought
Plenty of grass in Meath, dya not know how to grow it
Ahhh that was brilliant... i know the hardship from a contractors view... but Calvin stalling the puma that was funny...
why would you laugh at someone elses misfortune? Id say people just love working for you
You could have moaned all trough the video but you made it fun great watch 👍
Helped that the field was to be reseeded. 😅
I think that the ground is a bit wet 😅
Leave the deere at home on the wet days
Hi Andrew , would you not bale and wrap in those conditions save damaging new reseeded ground...? What a year ...thought last year was bad
Well done 💪
Inspirational optimism.first class
It's needed to farm. 🤣
@@FarmTheoryNI your gradually becoming legendary.the only RUclips channel I bothered to subscribe to.👌
Great video bud .haha love how your so calm about it .fantastic job .that JF is a awesome machine..did you use compactor on pit
@FarmTheory what chop length are you cutting your silage?
you got away ok I have seen a lot worse in other places this year
Great stuff
Love the Z.B soundtrack

Does the inoculant dilute in those wet conditions or run off when xompacting in the pit or makes no difference?
It is harder to ferment wet grass but that's ecosyls strong point, makes acid very efficiently

would make absolutely no difference
@@concernedcitizen3163 less weight. 5t vs 10t

5:49 😂 You should have put dual wheels on for mowing 😂
Great job
Time for a Farm Theory shop. Those shorts will sell like hot cakes!
I know!!!! 💰💰
How many acres can u put in in a good day with the 1260
120
Puma is some yoke made the Deere look very poor....
Sure you got on fine after all the drama
I think you and your team did well getting the silage in considering the circumstances 👍
Just watched a vid on a unimole by ceres, would that be any use, Andrew?
Applause 👏 ✌️ 👏 ✌️
👏
You were talking about ploughing, is it not a bad job to play over drains?
I'm going to start filling the drains to the top with stones
genuine question, would you consider a spfh for the better capability in wetter conditions?
He answers that many times in other videos
That would be madness for cuttin just his own grass🙈
He would be better of with a wagon a smaller team, he would have picked up the grass straight away.
i live in omagh and it never stopped raining the whole dat
It's mental!!
😮

Definitely should have round baled that last field all that soil going into the pit 🤮
Why would you even consider mowing and raining as well what difference would a' few days make if you waited forr it to dry that silage will be a disaster
You must of being trying to copy Tom pembertons first cut silage or something
Not easy gathering silage in catchy season
tractors getting bigger and heavier and for why?
Speed matters
Working on a Sunday would have been the better decision.
We can disagree. 😅
Work on Sunday, fix on Monday, forby that...
Read Exodus 20.

Not used, it was the out farm, grass was actually dry
Why not lift Sunday ?
Andrew why didn’t u just lift it on Sunday? 😂
Why did you not lift it on Sunday it would not be any harm, what are you going to do with the mud through your grass, a disaster
Very little dirt in the grass, help was organised for Monday
