andrew i remember standing on beside your dad on the big hill field at doogary when he was mowing ,, a mf 135 and pz 165 what a difference from then to now....
Great video. Need to get a system going with the trailer drivers so they know what you’re thinking in the absence of 2 way radios… you fill from the back and they drop back as the load fills or visa versa with a few and hand signals if needed. FairPlay to the MF Dealer but the 8S is too new to be giving any trouble? Keep up the good work.
Great video, interesting that you fill to the right which makes sense to me as the controls are to the right , however trailers are geared for left in all parts of Ireland.
Jf’s also really don’t like dry grass. With there drum and blower combined they aren’t able to create enough blow. Those kongkilde versions need north of 300 hp to get them working really well. Put a NH315 on it last year and that really made her sing
Nice job and well done thats a nice lift in the time you were at it, do you find any saving putting your own grass in? I used to do all my own but got a contractor the last 4 years i don't see much difference myself but i guess that depends on what each guy charges, however they are much harder on ground than your own outfit without a doubt.
Not when his trailer is designed to fill from other side. He's just throwing a fair bit back on floor. If a contractor did that here he'd either change or be off the job.
@@jimr9762so I’m my mind the trailer has been set up wrong (or Irish spec). Think they are also borrowed trailers and he’s not contracting it his own so he can throw as much as he wants.
No it doesnt as other harvesters the spout is further to the other side of the machine, also the trailer man has the harder job so its best to make it easier for him to see, His trailers are also designed to be filled on the opposite side and are sitting far too far off would help if they got a bit closer, also to finish this filling nonsense what side does a combine spout fill from ;p
Saving his neck a bit but losing loads of grass. If he’d have filled the proper side he wouldn’t have to watch the trailer as much as the crates are set up for him.
I was also so confused when I first drive a new Holland about when your in reverse the gears go the opposite way I was reversing and accidentally went into top gear thinking I was downshifting
Good crop of silage Andrew, always explained very well, JD trailer man drives like a Mexican .. should be trying to fill the trailer like the other's do!
I think its a bit of driver error at the end there,Only fault i have had in a newholland cab was the guys seat was broken so it was sitting on the deck, she was remapped from 175 to 268 and piles of power
@@zzirSnipzz1I’d say dynamic command by the badge in the side of bonnet and the changing from c1 to b6, and the fact the gears were “backwards” I’m guessing shifting with the paddle, it takes a minute or 2 to get the head into it but it’s the same as the dyna 4 masseys (62x0 etc)with the dyna on the forward reverse lever
greetings from down south. only started following your vids fairly recently. Excellent as always and delivered with good humour despite the pressure so fair play! in what way was the JF struggling? It looked golden on the video!
How do you calculate the amount of innoculant that you are applying per tonne? I have similar set up on the baler and its really hard to guage it correctly. Baler forward speed probably varies more than the JF. A flow meter would be the job but crazy expensive
Great Video, I second @bobuncle8704's comment about the commentary in the New Holland, I loved the stress and frustration, what's the JF model? thanks for sharing
i've designed a box that i want to have 3d printed, but ive no idea which material to use, it's a prototype, but if it works it'll be permanent, so i don't want to spend alot but also don't want it destined to fail. options are FMD plastic, SLA resin, SLS nylon, which one would you suggest?
Less effluent to gather, sheds can store machinery/calves/fertiliser. Plastic sheeting is dry as are the tyres, much nicer to work with. Can store hay or straw on top of the silage. Pit face is dry through the winter. Silage that falls on the concrete can be scrapped up and fed and not mixed with a load of wet rot if there was no roof. You basically get twice the use out of your silage pits if they’re roofed.
If he has a Case, why can he not drive a New Holland? Im not convinced on a silage compactor. Seems it it taking psi from the tractor tyres and spreading it more evenly across the top.
Loves the snort of a JF and the tractor can do other things when they are not not doing silage. Essentially he is a farmer not a.contractor and he can justify a bigger tractor than a dairyman would normally have.
It's just opportunity cost. I spend my time rather with cows and milk three times per day than sitting on a tractor. The contractor can do all in one day. The contractor has all right machines and good people. If they break down I don't pay and they have backup. But off course every farm and farmer are different. I do pay alot but if I plan early for a cut I am first and they finished with my field before the rain starts.
Hearing that your able to lift 140 acres in 18.5 hours with a trailed harvester makes me laugh at the contractor i work for mainly do pits just because they want a pit at home but it took us 2.5 days to lift 50 acres a few days ago with a jf900 including about 9 hours of breakdown time and we work from roughly 9 til dark
That compactor does a great job, very impressed
It really does, have to see it to understand the difference!
i never tire of watching the silage harvest. got the extended silage sides on the wrong side of the trailers
Your commentary when you got into the New Holland was priceless.

Fair play to even trying to make a video while running a trailed chopper. Great video! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You need a limit switch wired up to the pick up reel to turn the inoculant pump off when the reel is up.
gotta laugh at armchair experts with "you need" comments.
I want one to detect crop flow, I must build it.
Come on Andrew most men would do 14 hours per day at silage, keep the videos coming I enjoy them
You should get some one the convert those trailers so the board is on the other side would make life a lot easier
I really should. I must get that done next week.

The 1260 runs best between 25 and 35% dm
That’s some going 140 acres in 2 days, well done 👌🏻👍🏼
At some point I will really push and see what we can get done in one long day!

I don't think there is much financial saving, the benefits of doing your own are mainly better silage.
@4.45mins ....."Jeekers man drive forward 10 foot son, i cant cope", quote required there ,,😁
Awwww man, wish I thought of that!
Fine job. 👍 Sally says hi too.
Hi Sally. 👋
Could you do a quick calculation on the pit size and how much tonne was pitted from your 170 acres?
Sure, give it a week or two and I will try and work it out. 👍
The commentary for the New Holland was like listening to 2 men Laurel and Hardy 😂 great video well done.
Glad you enjoyed it. 😅
Good stuff
Finally… an Irish man that fills the trailer to the right. The side that make sense in all types of silage lifting machinery.
Im irish and agree with you.Far less painful on your neck too.

Why do u fill the trailer on right side trailer have high side to be filled on left side what is your reason ?
Because you have to look over that way so you don’t block the real and it would be very awkward trying to look over both of your shoulders
Ye seen that wonder could ya not swap the extension on too the other side
English isn't working
Could just a side of the trailer off.

True story
If he has a Case, why can he not drive a New Holland?
Im not convinced on a silage compactor. Seems it it taking psi from the tractor tyres and spreading it more evenly across the top.
Your tractor psi is the same as the air pressure in your tyres... So very low.
Why didn’t you just swap the solenoid on the back for the 540 one and carry on , much easier and quicker than swapping tractors
In hindsight that would have been the best option.
What do you mean you don’t like new Hollands. Case is basically a new Holland painted red
Or the opposite
It doesn't have to be logical. 😅
That camera seems a lot clearer than usual.
I turned up the frame rate, very well spotted. 🤣
Want get gerry 6420 fill them trailers with the john deere
Why do you not have a self-propelled forage harvester

which part of the country are you located?
Omagh, Norn Iron
Surprised you do not side sheet
It's a pain in the butt all winter
There all the same now days. The difference is in the in cab controls
At 20.50 your pit uncompacted itself 😂
