I bet the original Lois Lane (Noel Neill) wished she got to do flying sequences with George Reeves (as Superman) back in thier day😄..fun fact: Noel Neill did a cameo in Superman...she played the little girl's ( young Lois) mom on the train when young Clark was racing the train.

@Davemillet4160 Yesss!! It's a beautiful score!!! I urge you to listen to it as they play this song and the Superman theme as the credits are rolling.
1st the Superman theme plays ( sounding majestic of course) . Then the song that Lois and Superman are flying to in this scene is played. (Incidentally, the name of thus song is called " Can You Read My Mind". It was originally performed by Maureen McGovern. ) This song plays after the Superman theme in the closing credits as the credits are rolling. It sounds beautiful and it ends on such a peaceful note. To add to it at the very end as this song is coming to a close , after the last credit is shown, there was the promise that Superman 2 was coming soon!

There is a lot of (rightful) praise of Williams big, bold hero cues for this film... but his astute perception of the emotions of a scene, and how to augment them, are on full display here. The score alone (beginning just after 0:05), even without the images, takes us through the steps of slowly reaching out to someone else, finding that they want to reach back to you, and experiencing the great joy which comes from that. He was a painter of emotion in this film.

Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve will be the greatest relationship in a superhero movie and that is admirable! I mean, the movie took out 7 whole minutes of possible action, angst, or drama and inserted a beautiful and playful flying scene to not only grow Clark and Lois’ relationship, but to add to the level of sweetness and charm that few movies have nowadays. Before the release of Superman The Movie in 1978 the only film with Superman was in 1957. And from 1978 until 1987 Christopher Reeves was Superman. While other actors have portrayed The Man of Steel, the latest being Henry Cavhil, no one has been able to match Mr. Reeves portrayal of Superman. This scene in particular along with the rescue scene are indelibly etched in the minds of millions
This love theme was incorporated into the main score of the film Superman's March to musically and thematically signify the love relationship between Superman and Lois is central to the Superman saga. RIP Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder.

“And over the last few years we have heard a lot about something called ‘family values’. And like many of you, I have struggled to figure out what that means. And since my accident, I've found a definition that seems to make sense. I think it means that we're all family. And that we all have value.”
Christopher Reeve, speaking at the Democratic National Convention in 1996.
    What a Super Man.

How did they film this - the end scene. He steps back and flies off… and goes to her room and there is Clark… no cut.
The only thing I can see is the shot of Superman smiling to say goodnight, is not super clear… so green screen there?
I don’t see a ‘cut’ in that hedge she walks past, which is a good place to splice the edit.
I Saw it last night and suddenly “hey wow… how did they do that in 1978?”.
To this day, I still wonder how when they fly side by side, one hand, why she didn’t do go backward all over the place.
But it was that “romantic” fly together feel… real world parked. Wonderful scene with wonderful music.
Best Superman ever. No question. Never lied the new darker ones.

It's not a green screen. Watched (or read somewhere, I can't remember) that they projected a recording of a costumed Chris from behind a screen. All to make a seamless cut and to give the illusion that he changed clothes super fast.
EDIT: I think it was from a RUclips channel called CorridorCrew. They usually critique visual effects seen in movies, past and present & would often invite people who work in the industry to critique with them.

rphlcrvz has it right -- Kidder's looking at a large projection. Look at the plants in the lower left corner.
Annoying thing: I read the official "making of" paperback way back when, which claimed that Reeve flew off, got out of the rig and into Clark Kent's clothes, all in the time it took Kidder to walk from the balcony to the door. In other words, the official book claimed they did it for real.
      But it's obviously a rear-projection
