  • If you’re going to grind concrete inside. You are going to want one of these. This is the Hercules dust shroud. It’s a very handy accessory to have for your grinder. For the price it’s really a handy accessory to have for your grinder. Here is a link to it. Remember with any power tool there is always risk for injury. When making dust, you can breathe in all sorts of awful shit. AHarbor Freight is not a sponsor. They just have a lot of cool stuff.

    I had an older grinder that still worked good and just leave it on instead of taking it off and trying and installing again.

      Thinking I will do the same.

    Your cup surface seems to extend a bit beyond the brush tips. Does it? If so, I guess it still doesn't lose too much dust? My understanding is that the brush should extend a bit beyond the cup (not too far, maybe 1/8" ? ). Mine is looking the same as yours, unless I shim the shroud out a bit from the grinder face which doesn't work as well for mounting. I haven't tried it yet, just got it and came looking for tips. Thanks.

      That’s a great question. Did not really pay close attention to how far the cup stood proud of the outer bristles of the dust shroud. When I did use it the shroud brushes seemed just barely make contact with the floor.

      This is CRITICAL because I used the same shroud and same wheel to knock down some cement floor patch, and had ok results but some other discs that don't have as much of a "cup" to it, those discs I had to put my full body weight over the grinder to compress the bristles so the disc would get good contact. like those "type 27" discs don't have nearly enough of a cup to get any kind of contact with that shroud on. i suppose for those discs you can pull back the sliding door on the shroud to fully expose a section of your disc. moral of the story consider the "cup" of the disc you are using. For certain discs, I had to borrow the washers from my circular saw to shim up the disc so I could get good contact. again just something to consider.

      @calvinpryor thanks for sharing your experience. I have only used the dust shroud once so far. Have some future projects that I have not yet gotten to.

    i got this for my 7inch grinder....not sure what i did wrong but im getting a lot of concrete dust shooting out of the shroud at the "1-2 o'clock" part of it

      Harbor freight has two versions of this shroud. The one I bought. That is intended for 4 to 5 inch grinders and the one intended for 7 inch. Did you by the 7 inch version? If so make sure that blue part on the front is slid fully closed. Mine is hard to open and to close. First use I didn’t get it fully closed. I also had dust escaping at the same location as you described. The detent to snap it shut works hard. I hope this was helpful.

      @@sdavidb5620 yeah i got the 7inch one, and the door is fully closed....i am grinding my walls not the floor, not sure if thats making a difference but i wouldnt think it should

      @S2000guy Are all of the whiskers in good condition? Your vac have enough suck? Other than that not sure what to think. Working a wall should be the same as the floor. Will have to find a wall project to do. See if the small shroud has the same issue.

      I have a DeWalt cyclone then an old craftsman shop vac. It seemed to work ok. Have been trying to get a separate video done on how it did with the fine dust. It did not stop all the dust but I did not need to clean the filter while milling the floor. Here is a link to the video about the cyclone.

      Plenty of different companies have their version of the little cyclones. Keep hoping the Project Farm will do a comparison video.

    Do I need to put the metal ring with the plastic ring?

    • @sdavidb5620
      @sdavidb5620  3 месяца назад

      The needed ring and spacer depends on the grinder you’re putting it on. Will they and get a better install video done when I get home this weekend. Thanks for watching.
