Azuril will be *fine* it’s a normal type with high attack and return. It will probably be stupidly frail and bad in terms of fully evolved Pokémon but not a nightmare.
Hi Scott! Hidden Power Bug would have improved your matchup against Tate and Lisa since it would be super effective against their Claydol, Solrock, and Lunatone. Rock and Ground don’t resist Bug, which is one of the corners of the type chart I have to remind myself of. Hidden Power Bug also maintains super effective coverage against the demon Ludicolo and, as a bonus, can deal more damage to Sidney’s team and Steven’s Cradily and Claydol if the move routing works out. Fellow Rock-type Tyranitar uses Hidden Power Bug commonly in Generation 3 OU competitive single battles on Tyranitar to hit Celebi (for 4x damage) and Claydol (since it withstands Rock Slide + Earthquake very well). Hopefully this move can point Nosepass’s new playthroughs *in a new direction*! Because Nosepass is a compass…and points in directions…hah
I kinda love when they give pokemon an honorary typing. Nosepass is an honorary Electric type, like how Butterfree is an honorary Psychic type, or Venomoth is an honorary Bug.
Lol, does that make Gyarados both an honorary Dragon and Flying type? Dragon because it's obviously designed to be a dragon and has the moves. And Flying because it may be Flying type but they forgot to give it any moves (Hurricane doesn't count).
The production on these videos are getting so good! The venomoth as an arrow, the nice numbers throughout, the tips that pop on screen, and your voice over has been more lively and interactive! I'm sure it takes a toll on you and your team, but it has not gone unnoticed!
Having Eggsceptional as a third member of the team has really changed everything. There is definitely more financial obligation having a three person team but creatively it’s been really freeing for me.
TBH, Whiscash probably does well here. I used it in a Nuzlocke once, and it turns out Poor Man’s Swampert is still basically Swampert. People don’t realize just how much the goofy catfish brings to the table.

@@woowchocolate30the reason I recommended hidden power ghost is because it’s probably the best physical attack to use against Steven. This is wonderful, but I have IDEAS. First, yes, holy cow you should have rollout for Steven. It solves pretty much the entire elite 4 (besides Wallace). At the rate you're going, it essentially has 100% accuracy (you'll just reset if you miss). You also missed out on using PP Up. That's definitely an option. The fact that Scott has mentioned Gen 5 more and more as of late makes me think that, by December or January of 2025, we'll get Gen 5 challenges. The same thing happened with Platinum, Scott started mentioning it and showing the box art on screen more and more on the months previous to the first Platinum video
Something to note yesterdays live stream he talked an lot about BW, even how he’d do both Black and White 2, by doing Bladk for BW and W2 for BW2 for thumbnail synergy
Scott starts his new game series’ on 25th December. He pretty much outright said on stream the other day that he would continue doing this. The next chronological game in the series for him to take on would be HGSS, but I agree with you that he has been hinting a lot at BW lately and it might make more sense to go with that before adding another remake game to his repertoire (though I hope he will do HGSS too someday). It’s very likely to be one of those 2 anyway, and you can look forward to it on Christmas Day!
I literally only got this Pokémon a couple of years ago in my childhood copy of Ruby. I never even considered the method of getting it before I looked it up.
I did not expect to see a Jurassic Park reference shoved in this video, but I do appreciate it. Also you really decided to go for another rock-type after Onix, huh? You poor soul. Also droooopped my balllssss!
Something to note, since I haven't ever seen you do it, is that there are trainers you can fight if you fall in the ice in the 8th gym, which will be relevant when you do your Nosepass vs Onyx video haha.
I predicted nose pass after last weeks video and I said yikes, only being able to do one playthrough is understandable, this thing was BAD worse than I expected to begin with. And planning a VS video with it and Onix geez, best of luck to you keeping your sanity brother.. Thanks for the fun content as always.
31:40 Something that still applies even nowadays is that they don't realize when you have a certain ability, even if it's the only ability the Pokémon has.
As much as I dislike Probopass, I've grown to love Nosepass from the runs I've done themed around "bad" single-stage mons (or what were single-stage). It was the favorite of my first playthrough like that, making good use out of a randomized Vital Throw TM. The thought of the weird little Moai head waddling over to an enemy and chucking them into the sky never stopped being hilarious.
I haven't had time to watch so I held off on this one thinking it was some glitch run. I've been waiting for this run, but they thumbnail threw me off. I literally clapped when you revealed Nosepass.
As for suggestions to consider... you could use Hidden Power fire to beat the Skarmory and hit the Claydol neutrally or use HP water to hit the Skarmory neutrally and smash the Claydol, depending on which one is the bigger overall threat, Ice sounds good, but it's resisted by the Aggron and Metagross so if the only trainer you're trying to solve with it is Steven it probably makes sense to pick the type that hits more of his team at least neutrally.
Great video Scott! Only thing I’ll say is I didn’t click initially because of the thumbnail. I thought it was going to be a goofy modded run with Missingno or something lmao
definitely a hard run for sure and I knew there was a reason I never used nosepass in gen 3 I've never used one ever and it might be good with a team but idk but thanks for the great video and I appreciate your hard work and I'm sure your tired and exhausted after that long of a video keep up the great work always enjoy these
On the topic of onix vs nosepass, onix does actually have 2 major advantages that might be relevant. It is much faster with 70 base speed so it might outspeed even with a speed lowering nature considering the level it needs to grind to, and it gets stab earthquake which against neutral targets is going to be about 50 percent stronger than return.
You asked about PP restoring items. I did hoard them now that you mention it but the thing I remember hoarding most was TMs. They always made a point that it was only usable once and i was always afraid I'd use it and then need it later, so essentially I would never use it - just in case. I always just figured out other ways around problems (grinding up a new team member, etc.)
by the time Gen 3 rolls around, there sure are a lot of pokemon that at least on the surface look Impossible, old classics like Magikarp, Probably Sunkern, and Wobbafet, but also new stuff like Wynaut, the Regi Trio, and Probably Beldum
Regarding Damage Rounding Threshold merchandise, my first thought rather than a shirt is a wristband (or series thereof) or a mug that just has the levels on it. A subtle accessory of extreme nerdiness.
Scott. You had block and you let an abra get away. You even mentioned you shouldn't make pokéballs 100% because some have advantages. Block is an advantage for catching an Abra D: I think Thunder might be the move. It looks like it 1-shots Skarmory. Thunderbolt just doesn't do quite enough damage.m Another consideration might be a set like this: Defense Curl, Rollout, Rest, Taunt. Taunt the Skarmory, Defense Curl to +6, Rollout, reapplying taunt when necessary. A lot of the problem seems to stem from getting poisoned by Skarmory, being an automatic 2-turn loss from Rest because you MUST clear toxic. Crits are gonna happen, but Toxic *consistently* messes you up. If you taunt it, it can no longer do such things and is stuck attacking using its terrible offense. But I think there's a problem with rollout strats. See, the first chain probably is a 3-shot on Skarmory, then a 1-shot on Armaldo, then a 1-shot on Cradily. Then Aggron comes out who resists rock when you're just going to start a new rollout chain and starts using Solar Beam. You can tank 1-2 solar beams and that might get you through aggron with your 5th rollout coming out for Claydol or Metagross. With all that in mind, I don't know if rollout gets you there either. And it's certainly not going to be consistent, as hitting 10 90%s in a row is quite a low chance at only 3%. Nosepass is quite the puzzle. Another option would be Swagger in the place of Taunt. Boosting the opponent's attack and having them self-inflict could be quite good for Nosepass with harden being available to counter increased attack stages from the opponents. Of course it also comes with some danger. Confusion also has the added benefit of sometimes forcing random moves from AI opponents, thus causing them to sometimes just choose bad moves.
I'm partway through a game where I gave Tentacool the move Water Gun from the start and it's crushing it. So many water types, despite how good they are later, are neutered by a lack of early game water moves.
If there is a second Nosepass run, could Hidden Power Bug work as a solution to some things? It could help power through Tate and Liza without using so many candies, and having a set of Hidden Power, Earthquake, Thunderbolt, Harden could potentially let you beat Steven?
(Commenting before finishing the video). I bet Steven will be really tough, even at level 100. I'm sure Scott's got his own vastly different plan of his own, but here's my crack at it: I'm thinking maybe a moveset of: Harden (to set up for surviving the rest of his team against Skarmory). Rest to heal Toxic (and health). Hidden Power Ghost to KO Skarmory and Claydol (only physical move you can get that is at least neutral against both). And finally Earthquake to defeat the rest of his team. I'm not sure about the ranges, but you'd probably want a Spell Tag or Soft Sand - maybe Leftovers or Shell Bell instead? You might need Magnet Pull to keep Skarmory from switching (not sure if Steven's AI will attempt to switch). I think the best nature would probably be minus Special Attack - unless you absolutely need it for Wallace, in which case you could go minus Speed since it's so low anyways. On the other side of the coin, plus Attack or Defense makes sense - maybe even Special Defense (to survive Cradily's Giga Drain and Armaldo's Water Pulse). That setup might not be great for the rest of the game - and maybe the Steven fight is easier than I'm expecting, but that's my best guess (without Double Team at least).
@@Flaming_Rok Darn it. I didn't realize that. At least Skarmory isn't much of a threat. I guess that means HP Water would probably be the best - even if it's a Special move. (Or HP Ice - like he suggested in the video)
before u made the comment about merch at 30:30, i was so seriously thinking “i wonder what ‘damage rounding threshold’ merch would even look like”, im all-in!!
I dont think there is much to be done in the early part at all. His move set to be blunt sucks. But I think a mix of hidden power ghost and thunder (with a magnet you get from the 6 trickroom puzzle) might allow Nosepass to beat tate&Liza without using the rare candy. You can 1 hit the xatu with thunder and the magnet. Then, you will need to farm in the early game so trying to farm pouchyena (152 is enough from my test from the pokemon damage calc) early and buy as much as protein as you can to get some atk ev would increase the odds of 2 hit kill all their pokemon with hiden power. Would also help for steven.
This is looking like it will be quite the run (I'm only 15 minutes or so in but wanted to make sure I commented for the algorithm). I called Wattson would be difficult when you were foreshadowing - I would have been surprised if it had been the rival.
That Aggron fight created the indelible image of Aggron charging Solar Beam like a Kamehameha while Nosepass flails at Aggron with its tiny arms. Looks like this battle was quite the struggle. It was a rocky road, but Nosepass was at least able to beat the game. It is, therefore, canonically better than Regirock.

@@Cream147player Maybe Scott will do HGSS the same way he did Fire Red and Leaf Green
BW is going to be painful for certain Pokemon because of the unique Gen V EXP system. Pickup Lillipup is going to be the unfortunate tech, probably.
@@dvillines26 True. Medium Slow Pokémon will get an even bigger advantage
Can't believe I've been watching you so many years already. How time flies.
I literally only got this Pokémon a couple of years ago in my childhood copy of Ruby. I never even considered the method of getting it before I looked it up.
I’d for sure buy a “damage rounding threshold” T shirt, though I still don’t really know what it means lol
Onix will be much worse I think. And that scares me.
It scares me too
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemonAt least it can outspeed things.
I did not expect to see a Jurassic Park reference shoved in this video, but I do appreciate it. Also you really decided to go for another rock-type after Onix, huh? You poor soul.
Also droooopped my balllssss!
Dang. The seel effect does need a new name. My poor boi doesnt need the slander lol.
Keep up the great work as always!!
-number 1 seel fan
Clicked so fast because I thought this was a Decamark run. Was disappointed.
Nosepass winning by using Struggle is *so* thematically appropriate.
When i first clicked i thought u would lose. This is amazing dedication. I would have quit in fustration. Great job !
Aw man, I thought you were going to do a run with Gen 3's Missingno.
I legit thought you were gonna run Emerald with Missingno. 😂😂😂
I thought it was going to be a goofy modded run with Missingno or something lmao
definitely a hard run for sure and I knew there was a reason I never used nosepass in gen 3 I've never used one ever and it might be good with a team but idk but thanks for the great video and I appreciate your hard work and I'm sure your tired and exhausted after that long of a video keep up the great work always enjoy these
Nosepass may have been painful, but the video turned out divine.
1:13:00 remember, you did seel on pokemon yellow, a shorter game compared to gen 3 and beyond
Nosepass of all pokemon suffering from 4 move slot syndrome so badly in a solo run is incredible.
Roxanne will also be much faster to get past with access to Bind and Screech.
I really thought this would be a missingno run due to the thumbnail lol
The slow zoom in on Whiscash was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen
Scott. You had block and you let an abra get away. You even mentioned you shouldn't make pokéballs 100% because some have advantages.
Block is an advantage for catching an Abra D:
I think Thunder might be the move. It looks like it 1-shots Skarmory. Thunderbolt just doesn't do quite enough damage.m
Another consideration might be a set like this: Defense Curl, Rollout, Rest, Taunt.
🗿👃
When I heard you were going to do this chalenge on the Dragonite stream I knew Wallace and Steven would be very tough, I'm gonna enjoy this so much
Don't spoil shit bro
@@austinvanschoubroek1712they didn’t spoil anything.
I'm partway through a game where I gave Tentacool the move Water Gun from the start and it's crushing it. So many water types, despite how good they are later, are neutered by a lack of early game water moves.
The venomoth head replacing the arrow for just a second got me good.
If this is how well a Nosepass does, I can only imagine how Steven Stone's half-Nosepass/half-human half-brother from FlygonHG's Nuzlockes would fare.
I'm sure Scott's got his own vastly different plan of his own, but here's my crack at it:
I'm thinking maybe a moveset of: Harden (to set up for surviving the rest of his team against Skarmory).
HP Ghost is not neutral to Skarmory, Steel only stopped resisting Ghost in Gen 6. Until then, it resisted Ghost and Dark.
@@Flaming_Rok Darn it. I didn't realize that. At least Skarmory isn't much of a threat. I guess that means HP Water would probably be the best - even if it's a Special move. (Or HP Ice - like he suggested in the video)
Solarbeam... That has got to be one of the stickiest situations Ive ever seen..
before u made the comment about merch at 30:30, i was so seriously thinking “i wonder what ‘damage rounding threshold’ merch would even look like”, im all-in!!
thank you scott for continuing to make videos for these challenge runs 🥰🥰🥰
I cant be the only one who thought scott was gonna break his rules and we were gonna see a missingno run right?😂😂😂😂 i was SHOOK
8:09 Zomg! The Jurassic park ref. That was the first movie I watched in my whole life
"yet" gen 5 Magikarp hype
Get the editor a raise for the scar cameo at 1:28
I'm getting a flashback to my first Emerald nuzlocke when I see Roxanne using so many potions...
Excellent video as always =)
Looking forward to both of the versus videos mentioned at the end, but no rush getting to the awful one =P
