Hey guys, an important note about the health star ratings on products is that they're designed to measure _nutritional value_ relative to _similar products._ So if you compare the health star rating on different packets of chips, then the higher one has more nutritional value (which is a component of healthiness), but if it has a higher rating than a bag of chicken patties that doesn't necessarily mean it's more nutritional as they're diffirent kinds of product. The more and more varied nutrients in a product, and the less bad things like empty colories, the higher it rates, but it's calculated in relation to the norms for that product, not against an objective standard applied equally to all food types.
The means that the system is not designed to be an objective rating of overall healthiness, which many people including most Kiwis don't realise. Rather, it's intended to help people chose between two ostensibly similar products that might have wildly different nutritient levels. This can lead to some products having a higher rating than expected, including some items with higher ratings than disimilar products which one would assume to be healthier, which unfortunately has lead many Kiwis to believe that the system is rubbish and unreliable. There is also a lack of awareness regarding the somewhat relevant distinction between the specifics of nutritional value versus a broader conception of healthiness, which isn't helped by calling it the "health" start system.
Overall, the system actually works quite well once you understand how it operates, and it's been improved a bunch over the years to prevent abuses like when UP&GO was stuffing random nutrients into the product to offset all the sugar (coincidentally, they released a low sugar version shortly after the change came through to prevent arbitrary offsetting). Unfortunately, the nuances of the system are not something that ever gets taught to people or even mentioned, except once every few years on the news when there's a story about how something obviously unhealthy has a scandalously higher rathing than something clearly not very healthy. If you hadn't discovered this already, hopefully now you wont get confused and indignant if something unexpected turns up on the products you guys buy. 🙏
Best of luck in your Kiwi adventure! 🥳

Hey family, enjoying your journey ❤️
Please consider doing a video around schools, like finding a daycare or school for your daughter as you plan on starting work if you will.
Still look forward to your detailed video on how your guys’ move and process went about. Thanks for this content, helps us plan better.

Hey Masimthembe, thank you for your comment.
We plan on making a video on daycare centres. As far as I know, public school is free, you just pay a donation :) - but I’ll go into more detail soon!
Thank you for your support! The process and costs video will be coming soon! 🙂

Both our daughters went through the pre school system…
      pre school is very expensive..
You get 20 hours free a week if your child is 3 years old an over.. before that you pay full price..

I’m very impressed with your ability to keep your food shop, for the 3 of you, to around $200.00/FN in NZ.
Basic living costs in NZ are pretty steep and the median wage, out of step with what it actually costs to live with a rental or mortgage in NZ due to successive Governments failure to manage the demand and supply of housing to ensure it remains affordable.
Wish you and your family all the best with your new life in NZ.

Thank you very much. We appreciate your well wishes. Honestly, our grocery shop cost varies but we try to keep it at $200. We eat out on a Friday and on a Saturday sometimes, and this cost is not factored in the $200 budget. But, it’s not always possible to stick to the budget and that is fine 😆
We have stopped buying fruits and vegetables from the store and opt for the local market which is much cheaper.

As a Kiwi born person, I spend $100 to 120 per week just for MYSELF ( I am single person).
Hate to think what you are getting for $200 per shop....
Nz prices are high all over the country.
RE Recycling, 70 to 90 percent of the recycling bin goes to landfill.
I get paid for tin cans and they also make sure that my tin cans are recycled as they pay me for them per KG.

Hi Andrew. Yes cost of living is very expensive here in NZ. But it’s just a budget amount and as we have settled, we do find ourselves going over $200 often.

@@Dunnstakenz Don't beat yourself up, budgets in NZ are hard to work.
I pay my phone on 1 week then power on different week, I pay 3 bills all on different and set week.
That helps me not cut things too short, allows more money for moving around....
Hope you settle in and enjoy our green country.
I am in Hamilton and allow myself a meal out and coffee twice a week each week with me spending $120 a week...
There's loads to see and do, take a bill with you to the museum and you can get free membership to see it anytime for Free.
Also join the library and that is great Auckland city ID for free too....

Have you tried looking at local butchers shops?.,I buy from mine, and I find I get pretty much the same value, but without all the additives the Super Market meats have

    • @Dunnstakenz
      @Dunnstakenz  Год назад

Thank you. We have not tried getting our meat from the butchery. That’s a great idea. Are there any that you recommend or are the prices per kg fairly standard?

@@Dunnstakenz Last time I went, they were pretty comparable to the Super markets, but a lot healthier, I saw a TikTok video if another Kiwi guy doing a weight test on mince packs. He got one from a supermarket, and one from a Butcher, 1 kilo each in weight, when he cooked them, the Super Market mince lost 300 grams in weight, the Butcher mince lost 9. Supermarket mince is pumped with water. I don't mind paying a little extra for food if it's healthier, not sure of your situation, maybe check a few out first ,for prices.

Hey Dunn fam, enjoying your videos. I am also from South Africa moving to NZ(Nelson) in July, can you please make videos on how long it took you to get your visas and did you use an agency or? Also which airline did you use.

    • @Dunnstakenz
      @Dunnstakenz  Год назад +1

Hi Olgah. We have just uploaded a video on the costs we spent on our visa and this includes the flights. The airlines we used were; Qatar airways and Air New Zealand. We did not make use of an agent, we did the visa process ourselves 🙂
All the best with your move to Nelson.
