Remember as a teenager buying bootleg VHS from a guys mail order list from the classifieds in the back of Kerrang magazine, he used to mail you a list with a quality rating next to each one then he would record 2 or 3 movies to one longplay VHS, when you mailed him a cheque and your choices still have them to this day!

Yes! I've been waiting to see this. Thank you John for another excellent video. I re-watched classic slasher Maniac earlier and still to this day. Has one of the most realistic serial killers I have ever seen in a movie. The Blue Underground edition looks really nice, they are probably my favourite American boutique label right now.

I remember the original release of Maniac on video was very much cut (scalped?) Plain black cover with the Maniac title in white. Cut or not it was all Spinell & that was worth the rental price in itself
100% with you on your enjoyment of films depicting sleazy America 1975-1980ish. I love movies like Maniac, Nightmares in Damaged, Taxi Driver, Basket Case, The Exterminator, Ms 45 and The Warriors. Even laters ones like Deadbeat at Dawn and Combat Shock have that sleazy vibe in abundance. Interesting top 10, would definitely have The Burning, Zombie FE and Tenebrae in mine. I understand why you leave Holocaust off your list, its has so many admirable technical aspects to it, such a well made, effective film but not a film you can watch often. Similarly, Fight for Your Life is another well made, gripping film stacked with strong performances but another tough one to 'enjoy'. Another great video John, look forward to your next.

Yeah I can see how good a movie Holocaust is but it's one I watch literally once every 5 years or so 😬 Fight for your life might get a lot of respect if they hadn't included so much language in it, as its definitely a good movie but quite uncomfortable to watch 🤯🤯 next video is top 10 boutique releases I picked up in 2021 on Friday 🤩🤩👍👍👍

The Burning has a decent story, the soundtrack is beautiful but at times can be haunting. Sometimes after you watch it, a scene really stays in your heard for a while. The one with the raft.

I haven't seen Gestapo's Last Orgy but I think I know what you mean about it. It sounds like the sort of film that you get nothing much from it in and of itself, but the background of it, the making of it and the milieu from which it emerged, *that* sort of thing is interesting and worth learning about. I think this is particularly true with exploitation cinema where the culture (if that's the right word) that produced those films is more interesting than the films themselves. Similarly, I'm fascinated by the fact that Cannibal Apocalypse is on blu ray now from Kino Lorber, cos Kino have always been much more of an arthouse label and not a genre specialist like Blue Underground, but they've acquired this remarkable range of cult/exploitation titles (look at all the Jess Franco and Jean Rollin stuff from Redemption they put out) and they've treated that with the sort of respect BU extends to their stuff (sometimes better-I wish BU would release more of their Italian titles with more than just the English dubs). I think that's a fascinating cultural change in itself.
Yes Gestapo's Last Orgy is a strange one! Might be one of the hardest watches in the Nasty catalogue 🤯 I do agree that some movies back stories can far outweigh the actual movie itself 🤔👍 yeah Kino are starting to dip their toes further into the exploitation market, touching movies you wouldn't associate them with! I'm a huge fan of Blu Underground and I think they have a limited amount of movies they keep a hold of, they do spectacular jobs on them, but I wish, like you said, they would just go a little bit out of their usual releases 😊😊 cheers again mate 👍👍
I'm giving these a 2nd watch John, making a watchlist this time. I went through all the extras on the Second Sight release of Censor this evening, there is a small documentary with David Gregory and he shows off some of his VHS titles, he's got Beast in Heat and he said its the rarest VHS of them all. There is also a 2 part video nasty documentary on there from Severin, you may have already seen it but thought I'd let you know 👍

Hey John. Apart from Flesh For Frankenstein, Nightmare & The Beast In Heat i have seen every movie :). Interesting you have Cannibal Apocalypse in this video because a short while back i recommended both Cannibal Apocalypse and Cut And Run as limited editions with the crew of 88 Films !. I actually quite like Cannibal Apocalypse a lot ;). And given that there is only 1 "animal" scene in it they might be able to get away with giving it a new release. Did you know the concept for the movie came from the whole aids epidemic thing back then ??. They actually used that to base the story for the movie on, with the "virus" being transferred through bodily fluids etc. Cheers mate !

Okay this is a great series. I remember renting Gestapo's Last Orgy (in Canada under the title Caligula Reincarnated as Hitler). I recall the rat scene in particular. Watched with some friends when we were in our early 20's. We would rent some of the disturbing looking stuff that we found in our local VHS shop. I remember this and the original Last House on the Left being two of the more shocking. I ended up buying the clamshell of LAST HOUSE during one of that store's inventory sales.

Do Blue Underground still have the rights to Tenebre? Or was that Anchor Bay? They did a 5.1 remix of the soundtrack for their DVD release, would be good to have that on any future 4K release
Hmm not sure about that 🤔 I know Arrow put it out a while back and even remastered it again buy as to who owns it now? Im a bit unsure as its well due a 4k release you're right mate, a lot of Argento is getting the 4k treatment, so it's another high on the long wishlist 🤞🤞🤩🤩

Great titles, mate. I hope Gestapo's Last Orgy gets a U.K. release from 88 Films, as I haven't seen it yet and it sounds intruiging. Quite a few others I haven't seen, but on Saturday till Sunday there's a 24 hour horror marathon streaming on FB, which will have a few of those. The ones I have seen though, will need a rewatch as it's been a while since I last saw them. Still need to get Zombie on 4K, as that movie is awesome.

Some of the scenes and scenarios can't get passed and they are quite sickening at times and I've seen some BAD stuff 🤯🤢 but it's region free so you could import it 🤔 u always get loads of enjoyment from these movies and Zombie 4k is unreal Koro!!!! You gotta get it mate 🤩🤩👍👍

Yes Gestapo's Last Orgy is a strange one! Might be one of the hardest watches in the Nasty catalogue 🤯 I do agree that some movies back stories can far outweigh the actual movie itself 🤔👍 yeah Kino are starting to dip their toes further into the exploitation market, touching movies you wouldn't associate them with! I'm a huge fan of Blu Underground and I think they have a limited amount of movies they keep a hold of, they do spectacular jobs on them, but I wish, like you said, they would just go a little bit out of their usual releases 😊😊 cheers again mate 👍👍
I'm giving these a 2nd watch John, making a watchlist this time.
I went through all the extras on the Second Sight release of Censor this evening, there is a small documentary with David Gregory and he shows off some of his VHS titles, he's got Beast in Heat and he said its the rarest VHS of them all.
There is also a 2 part video nasty documentary on there from Severin, you may have already seen it but thought I'd let you know 👍

both Cannibal Apocalypse and Cut And Run as limited editions with the crew of 88 Films !.
I actually quite like Cannibal Apocalypse a lot ;).
And given that there is only 1 "animal" scene in it they might be able to get away with giving it a new release.
Did you know the concept for the movie came from the whole aids epidemic thing back then ??.
They actually used that to base the story for the movie on, with the "virus" being transferred through bodily fluids etc.

Okay this is a great series. I remember renting Gestapo's Last Orgy (in Canada under the title Caligula Reincarnated as Hitler). I recall the rat scene in particular. Watched with some friends when we were in our early 20's. We would rent some of the disturbing looking stuff that we found in our local VHS shop. I remember this and the original Last House on the Left being two of the more shocking. I ended up buying the clamshell of LAST HOUSE during one of that store's inventory sales.

My DVDs are in storage and currently I just have my blu-ray collection readily available and my colection is currently halfway across since I work overseas for 10 months of the year. Think I will keep all the physical stuff I have at this point but the whole pandemic has slowed my buying for the past two years. Divine intervention I guess. LOL.

Really hoping Blue Underground does 4K releases of Fulci's The Beyond and City of the Walking Dead. Those truly deserve the Blue Underground 4K treatment. Here's hoping they can get the rights to putting these films out.

Do Blue Underground still have the rights to Tenebre? Or was that Anchor Bay? They did a 5.1 remix of the soundtrack for their DVD release, would be good to have that on any future 4K release
Hmm not sure about that 🤔 I know Arrow put it out a while back and even remastered it again buy as to who owns it now? Im a bit unsure as its well due a 4k release you're right mate, a lot of Argento is getting the 4k treatment, so it's another high on the long wishlist 🤞🤞🤩🤩

Great titles, mate. I hope Gestapo's Last Orgy gets a U.K. release from 88 Films, as I haven't seen it yet and it sounds intruiging. Quite a few others I haven't seen, but on Saturday till Sunday there's a 24 hour horror marathon streaming on FB, which will have a few of those. The ones I have seen though, will need a rewatch as it's been a while since I last saw them. Still need to get Zombie on 4K, as that movie is awesome.
Cheers Koro, I can tell you that Gestapo's Last Orgy will NEVER get a UK release mate!! Some of the scenes and scenarios can't get passed and they are quite sickening at times and I've seen some BAD stuff 🤯🤢 but it's region free so you could import it 🤔 u always get loads of enjoyment from these movies and Zombie 4k is unreal Koro!!!! You gotta get it mate 🤩🤩👍👍
