In this video I give my raw thoughts on the 2020 Harley Davidson Iron 883 and the 2021 Sportster 1200. We take them on the highway and ride them around the city to give you guys my honest opinion on these awesome machine! November 2020, we bought my sons first bike, a Iron 883 in denim. Being it was his first ride, not sure if he’d like commuting on it, he didn’t want to overspend, so he rode both the 883 and 1200. He went with the cheaper 883 because he liked the riding position , and the overall handling and appearance of the bike.
The 1200 when opened up, even with only a simple air cleaner, tuner and a good exhaust makes an insane difference. If I pinned mine with just the stage 1, it was squirly as ol hell especially with the stock tires. I then did feuling 505/515 cams which really woke it up. Now it's a handful with a built motor, built clutch, built suspension, aftermarket gauges and a carbon fiber body hahaha. The aftermarket is insane! The bike had about 65hp stock, and now it is sitting somewhere north of 100hp
Yes sir I have to say Harley Davidson sportster 1200 being my first bike was a Harley Davidson sportster 1200 25th anniversary still have her today inherited from my grandpa at age 16 I remember riding to school a lot of kids rode mopeds one had a old Honda shadow and one had a Kawasaki falcon I also had my Yamaha dt175 Enduro rode it more Thursday and Friday because I knew we were going trail riding for the weekend

To continue, he loves the 883, however, we are installing the 1200 SE kit. After 12 months, he’s ready , but doesn’t want to give up the 883. FYI, he’s 6’2”, 180, and fits him fine!

Glad you are trying out the sporties!! I just did a review of the 2021 48 and coming from the 883 I was so happy with the power difference but I am easy to impress because I only came from 883 and all bikes perform better than the 883 😂😂

Give that man a newer roadster, xr1200 or even an older roadster or 1200 sport! I think he would enjoy all of them!
I chose a 2022 forty eight and my gf got a 2019 iron 883. I drove hers home since that’s the bike she learned on. The difference is definitely noticeable between the two but the 883 ran better than I expected. Regardless I love both bikes but my forty eight just looks and sounds mean. With v&h exhaust, a dyno tune, and Arlen ness velocity intake its runs great and is enough for me around town! I’m getting an R1 for highway trips

I have the 2020 883. I'm also 5' nuthin... We've changed the handlebars out & bought risers but oops...forgot to get the wiring harnesses...lmao...Just ordered those & will be putting the risers on once they come in. I might add that I have RA so being in that forward position is VERY hard on my upper body/ arms/ hands. Plus it's my first bike. I still love her though!!

My 883 Iron has displacement bumped up from the normal 883 engine to a 12075 cc. So it is a bit more torque than the standard 1200
You can convert the 883 to a 1200 once you get used to it.
Not worth the money. You’re better food just getting a 1200 if that’s what your end goal is.

I’ve an 883 anniversary hugger. There are cold dreary days I day dream about adding a 1250 kit to it but once it’s warm out I forget such thoughts and just enjoy

Crackin me UP! I did the SAME 2day- went and Demo’d both at my fave dealership. 🤘🏻😜. I ended up likin the 883 more! Great lower register power and a little smoother clutch. It was used and had mini apes BIG difference! Much prefer apes. Fun vid man!

If you want a quick 1200 Sportster get the pre-fuel injected one which was 2004 carburated. The fuel injected ones are mapped for emmissios and smothered. I imagine you could have it electronically tuned. My 04 has a carb that been rejetted and I have added the performance exhaust, all else is stock. The bike flys. The service guy test drove it after an oil change and was impressed because he was used to riding the newer stock fuel injected bikes.
Going for my MSF course next week. Went to the dealership I like the 1200 all the way so far just by sitting on it only.

I’ve got a 1200 custom xl and an 883 with a 1200 kit in it. I love the 1200 xl. I’ve got basically every general aftermarket upgrade you can make on both. I hit 130 no problem on the 1200 xl. I’m also 6 ft tall and have bars raised on both. The 883 ide say is better if your under 5’10”. If you’re any bigger go with a 1200 xl. I can still lift if up, spin the tire. Not all 883s are going to have you hunched over like this setup.
If you had more aggressive bars on the 1200 do you think you would change your opinion if you were to be in the twisties?
Based on actually what happened, the 883 won out over the 1200 iron ‘cause it ended in 2021 and 883 made it to 2022. Nothing wrong with any 883 except I did not like the Superlows. The 883 iron handlebars are comfy and good for handling and they always look cool.
Really enjoyed this video, these are the two bikes I was torn between.... After feeling them both, I chose the 1200 in black with the green tank.

How can you tell when you really get on one bike and then get on the other bike and then you get back on the other bike so how can you tell which one is the best bike to me they're both look the same they both look to ride the same so they're really no difference but thanks for your input opinion

My 2002 883c goes over 95 2 up lol. But it is a lighter bike and carburetted my local trained harley engineer says my bike is definitely quicker than the new ones if you can put up with the vibration lol!!. He told me not to change to a newer model as I may be disappointed.

The difference is negligible. The 883 weighs about 563lbs the 1200 weighs about 568lbs. Tank size is the same at about 3.3 gallons
I can't comment on the new models, as I own a 2001 and have a service manual for the 2000 XLH Sportsters. But according to the specifications, the weights are: LBS KG
XLH 883 488 221
XLH883 HUGGER 485 220
XL 883C CUSTOM 489 222
XLH 1200 491 223
XL 1200C CUSTOM 491 223 XL 1200S SPORT 501 227
Again, this is for the 2000 models, so modern upgrades, if any (such as fuel injection, ABS, etc.), may change these figures.
@@jeffhale2278 thats probably 'dry weight' with no fuel, oil, or amenities... such as seats . idk why they list such erroneous information. a hd 500 street is about 500 lbs 'wet'. thats the smallest bike hd makes.

I'd choose 1200 since it has larger fuel tank..

Yeah, my 1200 was definitely not for the highway. It seems like all they would have to do was add one more gear. It maxed out at 115. My pickup truck can do that. That was my main gripe with it. It sounded great, it looked great and was fun off the highway, but on it, it was screaming to keep up with traffic. Some drivers know it too and screw with you.
Did you do any stage upgrades?
@@expendable4h002 Just Screaming Eagle intake and fuel mapping. A sproket change might have helped on the highway, but at the sacrifice of low end power in the city where I used it most. It would take a lot more money to make that bike even comparable to the V-Rod performance (without the reliability) than just buying a V-Rod.
Thats cool. Yea I just bought a 2in1 Cobra exhaust and arlen ness 65veoliticity intake with the FP3 fuel pack to put on my stock 2020 iron 1200. Im hoping I get a performance increase. I already go about 80mph on the freeway and its no sweat but I have nothing to compare it. Hoping I can get to 90 or 100 with these upgrades with no change in comfort.

Dude you can’t really fairly compare a vrod to any other Harley when it comes to the engine. Vrod engine was co-designed with Porsche. had dual overhead cam, instead of pushrods. And cylinders were 60 deg. apart instead of the traditional 45 deg. Harley.
Made my stomach turn when he said it’s got 6 MILES on it and then proceeds to rip it🤦♂️

I wouldn’t mind getting an older one to sup up and put some apes on, slam it. Make it loud and nasty.
IMO the 883 for a female rider, OR a small frame male, OR yer building a dirt bike! and the 1200 for the alpha male! I have a XL1200C and had a few close calls on wet grass, slick wet and gravel roads already, cuz ya twist the throttle on the beast and it just honks big time, you cannot finesse the 1200 away from a stop like you can the 883! It's a "Beast" even stock! And of course mine has Screaming Eagle pipes, and I just I bought a set of Wisco 10.5:1 forged pistons, and a Mikuni square slide racing carb (said to increase HP by %25) I needed that like I need purple hair, a pair of nipple rings, an some tap dance shoes! *8)
Well I don’t think I would buy that 1200 he rode off with 6 miles on it and then he was doing 100 mph. Don’t people break engines in nowadays.

I like the 883 better, but would put a 1250 conversion kit on it. 500 bucks for the big bore kit and you’ve got more power than the sportster 1200.

You put a stage 3 or 4 on the 883 it will be more powerful the the 1200, even if you put a stage 4 on the 1200 the 883 will still be more powerful.
