  • Does the movie make the watch or the other way round? I love this thing for personal reasons which I explain - and you get to see glorious Castle Hill

I treated myself to this earlier this year, and it was actually my first Swiss mechanical. I absolutely love it. It's big and bold without being too big or too bold if that makes sense. Also, the movie resonated with me, the relationship with his daughter. I'm blessed with one too, and I hope to pick up the Murph for her.

As I have got older I am less inclined to place value on watches based on their price. I've changed the collection so it now includes watches that are important to me. This is why I still have my trusty old SKX007 when Omegas, Tudors and Rolexs have come and gone. I have a huge soft spot for Hamilton despite their crappy lack of decent anti reflection and their propriatory changes to the ETA which means you have to get Hamilton to service them or even adjust them.
I'm ordering one of these. The combo of modern Fleiger B style dial, hugely practical 100m and it's not another flippn diver so it's a bit different. Stands out from the crowd.
I also like Hamilton as a brand because like Seiko, and maybe Bremont and Yema, heir position in the pecking order of Brand Knob Waving is a bit ambiguous probably because they are not a traditional Swiss company (although obviously they are now) their designs are very iconic, probably because of their huge movie presence. Something like 300 Hamiltons have appeared in Holly's movies over the years. As such when you see them especially over here on Britain they tend to be bought by people who are buying the watch rather than the brand, if that makes sense?

Coop wore the watch in a few scenes, certainly adds some iconic.
All things considered, that movie made the Murph epic. The watch literally saved humanity with its second hand, gave hope to humanity when hope was lost. It bonded Murph and her dad bending the fabric of space-time. Then Murphy Cooper wore it over a century till her dying breath for the sake of sentiment.
That said, i love Flieglers and love symmetry. This day date is probably my favorite aviator style design by any watchmaker.

Nice watch, it's good to have watches that mean something to you. I think Hamiltons most iconic watch is actually the Khaki field Mechanical, the Murph watch (also in Interstellar) is pretty cool, as it was made for the film as a one off & then Hamilton decided to make it available for sale to the public due the amount of interest in it. The most iconic watch under £1k of the last couple of decades has got to be the Seiko SKX though!

Really love mine. The day/date feature is placed perfectly and is needed for my 75 y.o. brain. Very thoughtful design. The 3 generations of my family who worked in the Hamilton factory in Lancaster, Pa. would certainly be happy at the brand’s resurrection by the Swatch Group after the quartz crisis beset by the mechanical watch industry in the U.S.

Great video as always mate, that Hamilton is awesome 👌🏻 also agree watches received as a gift mean so much more than the watches I buy myself, I have a Breitling Superocean and Nomos Which were gifted to me by my wife and kids and would never sell them as they are too special, and in a collection less really is more...look forward to your next video, all the Best. It’s a cool watch . But more importantly it’s so important because it’s a gift from your family . . Size is fine on a pilots watch it’s meant to big anyway . I agree you should . wear it more often the family connection is more important than brand names There’s all different reasons why we love certain watches whether it’s down to sheer quality or sentimental value we can love them equally .

    • @watchandrew

the size is fine for me, just. its a great watch in my eyes and the story behind makes it very special, what I didn't mention is I have a child called Cooper as well - the film, a football player, and my favourite drink is stored in barrels made by a cooper!

I have owned both the Everest and the Moon watch and still own an Everest Expedition 36mm.
The Bulova is a superb watch, probably my favourite all time quartz Chronograph. Bulova' s high frequency movement is awesomely accurate and the hand tracks super-smooth for a quartz. It looks so bloody cool and is great on a bracelet, leather or NATO. If you want an alternative to the Speedy which is ridiculously good value and affordable then the Lunar Pilot is brilliant.
The Smiths Everest. Iconic brand but the watch Eddie designed is far removed from the actual Smiths Deluxe that Hilary wore in Everest, it is highly influenced by the Rolex Explorer which of course Tensing wore on the 1953 ascent. However, it is a cracking watch, again brilliant value and a great one watch collection. Dealing with Timefactors and ordering can be challenging but it is worth the effort.
I own several of their watches and they are all beautifully made and great value. The Speedbird 3 is I think, a better watch than the ICW which costs nearly 15 times more. Especially in its earlier interactions when the bracelet was made by the chap from Damasko.
