I could listening to this song over and over and could get lost in the music and get in my head and getting worked out and thru their music at age 50 im still here and thriving

With this rabbit hole, your life will be changed, forever. This is the first Metallica song I'd ever heard, and it absolutely saved my life. I suggest "Master of Puppets" , and then let us guide you..🤘😎🤘

    Great reaction!
James Hetfield is the singer and rhythm guitarist. Kirk Hammett is the lead guitarist. Lars Ulrich is the drummer. Cliff Burton is the bassist in the first 3 albums, but the band has had multiple bassists since his untimely death (Jason Newstead then Robert Trujillo)
This is a great introduction to Metallica. I’d recommend going through each song, album by album in order, but if you don’t want to do that, here’s some recommendations:
    One (not the music video)
    Master of Puppets
    And Justice for All
    Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
    Blackened
    Sad But True
Also as you go on the Metallica journey, the live performances of some of these songs are amazing, just ask us and I promise we got you 🙏

Well said, and understood. This song gives a person in that darkness someone to relate to; then as the instrumental goes on it increases in scale, which brings a feeling of victory. This song has helped countless people get through dark times. Thanks, for your reaction.

This song saved my life. It kept me from going through with a few suicide attempts in my teens and early 20’s. It came on the radio and I realized I wasn’t alone and there were others going through what I was.

  • @michaelcarr3612

I love the wordplay in the lyrics: "Growing darkness taking dawn" and "Emptiness is filling me."
Dawn is the beginning of light, but it is represented as the beginning of darkness. Emptiness filling him, being filled with nothing is a powerful concept especially when dealing with someone's feelings. I imagine if you have been in a mental state of depression this speaks volumes to you. Even as a person who has not experienced those feelings, the way this is worded is powerful. Thanks for reacting to Metallica! You totally nailed the reaction. Many of Metallica's songs, especially early on, are pretty deep in meaning. A lot of reactors don't understand the meaning of the songs because they don't listen close enough to the lyrics. Awesome job!!!!!

Metallica is one of the biggest bands known world over, and they got that way by relentless touring and no radio airplay of their first 4 albums until the release of their 5th album "Metallica"or what is referred to as the black album. Upon the release of that album, their popularity exploded.

  • @erikpalmer1201

Metallica wrote "Fade To Black" after their equipment was stolen. The band was scheduled to play a show in Boston on January 14, 1984. The truck with their gear got their first, and when their road crew looked for it the next morning, it was gone. This was especially hard for James, their singer and rhythmen guitarist, whos amplifer that his mother bought to him before she died was among the stolen things. Performing this song live, James often stops before the bridge and addresses the crowd about the subject, like this one from Buffalo in 2022.
”It's a beautiful sound to hear each other. This song here is about suicide, written in 1983. We've all had struggles. We've all had dark times. We've all known friends or family members that have taken their own lives. They've committed to a permanence to a temporary problem. We've all been touched by it. If you're feeling like you're struggling, there's people to listen. There's people that will listen to you. There are people that love you. I love you. And you're not alone. Remember that. You are not alone."

I inherited Metallica from my dad before i was even born. He used to play this cassette tape on his Walkman and put the headphones up to my mother's stomach and depending on the mood i was in i would either chill out and go to sleep or kick the shit out of her belly. Metallica has been an overwhelmingly positive influence on my life. I have suffered from mental illnesses most of my adolescence and my entire adult life Metallica has helped calm that inner storm more times than i can count. Once i learned they made the song One after reading a book and watching the film adaptation Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trambo i went out of my way as a 14 year old kid to ask my local library to rent both of them from other libraries just to see what they saw, read what they read, and maybe understand some of what they understood and knew. I used Master of Puppets to win a literary contest in high school. I own first edition copies signed copies of all their albums, and book. My mom for my 26th birthday got my dad and i tickets to see Metallica in concert and although they were literal nosebleed seats it was one of the coolest experiences of my life. I dont drink but that night my dad and i shared a beer at a concert of our favorite band and had an unforgettable experience that will last a lifetime.

I never knew that. I've been a big fan of Metallica and this song since my adolescent years and never really knew the story behind this song. This was one of the first cds I bought. I'm 34 now and still enjoy listening to this song and them and especially watching reaction videos to people who never heard of them listening to their songs for the first time. I guess I was just satisfied with the song's message, vibe, and change it had in my life that I never took the time to know the backstory. Thank you for commenting that 🤘❤ now I know.

Nice reaction. A lot of content creators have the same misconception about Metallica prior to their first listening, and the genre is full of bands that are nothing but mindless screaming and fast guitars. Depending on your mood, that's fine, but Metallica is different. You can understand everything James Hetfield says, even if the song has no deeper meaning than to get your adrenaline pumping. Their first album, Kill'em All, is loaded with songs like that, which makes sense since they weren't much more than teenagers when they created it. But it was extremely well executed for their age. I would love to encounter a channel that explored Metallica chronologically and get a sense of the band's evolution.

Life, it seems, will fade away
    Drifting further, every day
    Getting lost within myself
    Nothing matters, no one else
I have lost the will to live
    Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free
Things not what they used to be
    Missing one inside of me
Deathly loss, this can't be real
I cannot stand this hell I feel
    Emptiness is filling me
    To the point of agony
    Growing darkness, taking dawn
I was me, but now he's gone
    No one but me
    Can save myself
    But it's too late
    Now I can't think
Think why I should even try
    Yesterday seems as though
    It never existed
    Death greets me warm
Now I will just say goodbye
    Bye...

Metal music is meant to dive deeper into the human experience and spectrum of emotions. There is anger, grief, loneliness, sadness, happiness, strength. Many different feels in metal music that ive never found in any other music form. Its a beautiful thing.
