"Creeping Death", off the same album, is a banger, a crowd favorite at their concerts still after all these years. Inspired by the movie "The Ten Commandments", a song about Moses leading the Hebrews out of Egypt. Seriously, not kidding.
In 1996, when ZRock went off the air, this was the last song they played. I was on patrol that night and pulled my patrol car over, cranked up the radio, rolled down the windows and just immersed myself into the song. When the song ended, the radio station truly did fade to black. No sound whatsoever, as if I had turned the radio off. I sat there and wept. The end of an error. It is a night I will never forget.
I saw them at the Capitol Theater in Pasaic, NJ in November 1986. One of their first headlining shows and, unfortunately, the 9th show with Jason instead of Cliff. They fit most of their catalog in a 90 minute show. No Orion, though, but I understood why.

One of Metallica's best songs period. It is almost impossible to say what is the greatest Metallica song, but this song is on the top ten list. Great reaction to such an iconic song
the thing I've always loved about this song is Kirk's guitar work. we know the song is about self-harm, but if you really listen to the three guitar sections he plays, it really does take you through the beauty, the pain, and the chaos of someone's thoughts that are in that place... that darkness where self harm becomes an option. The things you can't live with, the things you can't live without, and the confict between beauty and pain and just wanting the battle to end one way or another. I can almost imagine James going to Kirk... "hey man, imagine the pain and conflict that must be inside someone at these moments... make those emotions with your guitar. Tell me through the notes... I'll sing the words, you play the emotions." To this day this is still my fav Metallica song, one of the greatest metal songs of all time, and I think Kirk's building solo at the end, after James says goodbye, is some of the best guitar work of all time. It's so hard, and so beautiful at the same time. And even more amazing, these fools were writing masterpieces like this at what... 18yrs old? Serious, serious talent...

Great album. This and some others helped me through some dark times, especially my junior & senior years of high school (& even now still). Just shows that you're not alone with whatever you're going through.
First Metallica concert I attended was AJFA I think they offered 12 choices for concert tees …I bought one of each I didn’t want to carry them around so I put all of them on over top of each other… I banged my head and sweated like crazy. What a night!!
This is the first song that was able to relate to the darkness inside me. I have it tattooed on my arm. I was able to share this song with close friends who couldn't relate to what I go through daily. I had this song playing on repeat when I attempted to end my life over a year ago. I still live with the thoughts every day, but Metallica has given a voice to my pain
While "Master of Puppets" is often seen as Metallica's best album, for me it has always been "Ride the Lightning." Have loved that album since the first time I heard it, all those decades ago. For another song that starts slow and just keeps amping up the further it goes, you should get back to Damn Yankees. You reacted to their biggest power ballad once years ago. Suggest this time you check out "Come Again." A song that starts out as a pure power ballad, but keeps building, eventually leading to an absolutely insane Ted Nugent guitar solo. It may be his best solo since his early days as a solo artist. He extends it quite a bit during their live "Uprising" concert in 1992, but it doesn't appear that performance of the song as a stand alone is still available on RUclips. You'd have to pull up the entire concert video, which is still on here, to find it. The entire concert is worth checking out though for any hard rock music fan. The encore where they do songs from each of their prior bands, Styx's "Renegage," Ted's "Cat Scratch Fever," and "You Can Still Rock in America" by Night Ranger was always a great way to end their shows. I saw them live twice, and of the 69-70 bands I've seen live, they are top 5 in just how good they sounded live.
I swear on everything I care for, when this song came on my playlist over the weekend I thought “they have to do a reaction to Fade to Black,” now here we are.
When James Hetfield was young, and before she passed away, his mom bought him a guitar amp. This was one of his most prized possessions, and he continued to use it as his new band, Metallica, toured for their first album, Kill 'em All. Sadly, during that tour, someone stole all the band's gear, including James's amp. They were touring with Anthrax, who graciously lent them their gear, but for James, losing that amp hit hard. In his sorrow and depression he wrote this song, Fade to Black. It helped him crawl his way out of the darkness and subsequently helped so many other people do the same.
Metallica needs a spot on the wall behind you guys!

And justice for all is a damn good album even with the toned down bass (which gives it its signature).

this was a heavy song for a teenager - which I was when it came out. Dark as hell... but it was somehow empowering in the end
One of my favorite Metallica songs😊Thank you
This album is beautiful. One of my faves of theirs. (Tied with S&M.)
Give a "like" if you ever had a metallica t-shirt
Still do.
When I was a kid, my mom hated the kill em all t shirt. It eventually disappeared. 😂
@@jesspayant1667 Me too, and I'm 57! 🤘
First Metallica concert I attended was AJFA I think they offered 12 choices for concert tees …I bought one of each
I didn’t want to carry them around so I put all of them on over top of each other… I banged my head and sweated like crazy. What a night!!
Wearing one right now!
Anything from Killem All to 72 Seasons...Im in!!!
🙋🏽♂️🔥🤘🏽🔥
I feel so lucky I got to see Cliff live back in the day. My Band in High School won battle of the bands playing this song back in the 80's.
METALLICA 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥
Metallica:
The Call Of Ktulu
And
Orion
Please and thank you
Fade is my favorite song on this album.
Creeping Death from that album next
I swear on everything I care for, when this song came on my playlist over the weekend I thought “they have to do a reaction to Fade to Black,” now here we are.
One of my all time favs
Their first 5 albums is what made Metallica the greatest heavy metal band that’s ever lived
Whole album is awesome!
My favorite by them!
Love the intro solo …good stuff
