    Unbelievably beauitful.The revieling of the hidden romatisism of Shostakovich is genial.Under Stalin a performance like this world qualify for an unlimited stay in Sibiria for both composer and artist.The final march however covered the trail and showed nose.

    Listening to this music is amazing. He is one of the best, some say THE best. It shocks me that the venue is less than half full.

    • @l8tbloomer
      @l8tbloomer 9 лет назад

      +nunya biznez The main floor looks full. It's a chamber concert so it's not that surprising the upper balcony is thinly populated.

    • @nunyabiznez6381
      @nunyabiznez6381 9 лет назад +1

      +l8tbloomer I understand chamber concert but one usually picks a venue one can fill. Usually when I have present for chamber music it is in an actual chamber, IE, modest room. My uncle was 2nd cello for a major orchestra and when he performed chamber music it was usually in a room with 10-50 people in it. He did the most wonderful Christmas concerts at my grandparent's house 50 years ago. THAT is chamber music. Performing a piece intended as chamber music in a concert hall should only be done when one can fill it or come close to it. The acoustics are just not right for it in a big hall.

    The music is exquisite. It is done to perfection with the reader telling the story with his own inflections and wording.
    This is what music is about. It is what makes really great music alive.
    A good book is always made better by a good reader.
    Good music is the same.

    It's not matter to be or not to be from Shostakovich. What's important is the performance, someway free, once the artist has is own emotion... Mischa Maisky is a God of the cello.

    What a wonderful musician and master of the instrument and repertoire! His sensitivity and ability to make that instrument sing is unmatched. He has a full command of the instrument and phrases and is able to blend/manipulate the the subtle nuances and contrasts seamlessly. He deserves much more respect than he gets; he's a contemporary master on the cello! I grew up a Ma fan, and I still am, but Mischa is in a different league, all by himself! I believe it's his daughter accompanying him and they are in tune and on the same page. What a team!

    best performance of a cellist on Vocalise. I get chills each time I hear it played like this. I'm a composer and wrote a piece called Tranquil. It's moving like Vocalise, but may never get discovered as I don't have connections to get it heard. Tranquil is under my name on You Tube, Check it out under Cheryl Edelman

    Eh, there are a lot of mistakes, which is fine for live performance, but I think most of them could have been avoided if he didn't fool around so much; liberties are great when they work and suck when they don't. Still, many great moments.

    Well he does have the pianist's accompaniment as a cue. Not saying it isn't amazing what he does. Just saying he has someone with sheet music in front of her. And a page turner, no less! : )
