THIS VIOLINCELLO HAS THE RICHEST, MOST PROFOUND, AND COMFORTING SOUND IMAGINABLE. THE PIANO ALSO BEING IN PERFECT SYNCRONIZATION WITH THE CELLO--BOTH BRILLIANT.
The interpretation of Maisky is wonderful in that sense that he shoots the image of the nostalgic Brahms. His vision is lyric (what vibratos!) but fierce. This is the way how I feel this sonata. It seems me to be the Brahmian equivalent of the op. 69 of Beethoven. They are both in three movements, without slow movement ........
This is a visual as well as an aural feast. If you worship cello technique, go watch a masterclass and miss everything else. If you want great music, direct from a great mind and heart, stay, watch (appreciate the pianist too, cello lover) and be ready to take the hit via this fearless camera work that delivers such passion to us! The complete involvement, control, attack and commitment of the players, not from a timid distance but close-up; the stirring, surging, mounting feeling, tossing us around like the sea with one great outpouring theme after another in mm1; the rewarding simultaneous views of both instruments, the stress and concentration of joint interpretation and projection. The delicate dancing in mm2, the vehement contrapuntal final race and sprint finish. It’s all there, in your face - including the sweat. And the remarkable texture and flow of Maisky’s shirt contributes to these very special 26 minutes. I’m still getting my breath back! One of the most riveting performance videos I’ve seen of classical - and chamber music coverage this good even tops watching orchestral playing! Good on you, Loft Music makers
i love how it’s super obvious when the videographer is not a musician lol. all the angles we don’t care about
Yes I was frustrated

😂😂😂 so true
My absolute favorite interpretation of this piece. I see this piece as someone falling apart and going through the pain of becoming whole again.
А Вы слышали, как играет сонату Жаклин Дю Пре? После неё всё остальное меркнет.

YES I ABSOLUTELY AGREE
BUT U DON'T HAVE TO WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS BRO
@@Pookiebear348 SOMETIMES YOURE JUST SO MOVED BY THE CELLO THAT YOU CANT HELP IT
do you guys by any chance know what strings he is using
@@cello9015 Does not matter that much, but probably steel.
Absolutely gorgeous performance. Totally weird videography.
Totally beautiful performance by both players. I do not understand how there was ever a time when I thought I did not care for Brahms.
FINALLY a cellist that doesn't take this unbearably slow!!!! Go Maisky!!!
I agree
I disagree, Pau showed a masterclass of Victorian playing stile, too much aggidatos make this sonata sound too sweet.
great
1er mouvement sublime...

AMAZING VERSION I AM TOTALLY IMMERSE IN THIS SOUND
Absolutely wonderfully interpreted! I am short of words...just love it all!
¡Hermosa melodía, excelente presentación!. ¡¡¡Muchas gracias por compartirla!!!.
Beaucoup de poésie, de nuances, de romantisme. J Brahms à l'honneur... :) Merci.
Love this masculine version but as a cellist learning this sublime piece I want to watch Mischa’s magnificent technique, not his face!
Bonjour et merci pour votre vidéo..
Magnifique interprétation
BRAVO Messieurs..
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Шедевр, вершина исполнительства! Брамс и Майский единое целое...
Послушайте Жаклин Де Пре!!!!
My favorite interpretation, bravo!!!
superbe morceau et quelle élégance
So beautiful it made me cry
simply great...brahms would have liked it...

Super! And great pianist!
Meraviglioso adoro Brahms e Mischia Maiski
This is a Brahms-Maisky-Galilov ensemble. Could anything be better?!
Final part - especial magnificent! Especially themes after 22:25 - delightful! I love this sonata!
Wow - not easy the last Move. For both - Piano and Cello.
Magnificent execution.
Adorable interprétation !
bellissima musica mi piace molto Grazie.
Absolutely beautiful interpretation, but weird video angles😂 Autumn is the season for Brahms!!
AMAZING LEGATO!!!!! WOWWW
I do not understand why the camera focus on the faces. Are they playing with their mouth?
Because this recording is from a documentary film as you can see above.
Perhaps some viewers have an interest in the emotion displayed on the performers' faces?
Am with u guy. Beyond my reasoning why they focus on countenances
It is because the audience needs to see their emotion when they play this.
They **ARE**, indeed! The original title was "Cello Sonata #1 for cello, piano and dual harmonicas"...(ROFL)
MAGNIFIQUE !!!
2:04 oh absolutely beautiful
А пианист какой блестящий! Наслаждалась ансамблем в Allegro
I love this performance only for listening and not for watching. I closed my eyes and trip....
Superbe ❤
깊고 품격있고 ...좋다 ~♡
Marvellous!
The absolute best cellist ever! in a league with Pablo Casals-high above DuPree, YoYoMa, and all those others.
The cello has a very dark voice. At times it looks like a double bass. Is this a positive feature?
I LIKE
does anyone by chance know what strings he is using in this video
I do

Woah! Didn't know that John Turturro played the cello! Awesome.
Brilliant!

Very fine indeed; yet it somehow lacks the pathos, nuance, and synergy of the performance by Yo-Yo Ma and Emmanuel Ax.
