  • Mazda has been making SUVs for awhile, that's nothing new. What is new for Mazda, is making an SUV with a rear wheel drive architecture. Mazda really wanted to go after the premium SUV market so they designed the CX-90 from the ground up to do that. Were they successful? Follow along this week as we do a deep dive into this all new vehicle..

I don't feel the steering is heavy at all, on par with my Cayenne and much lighter than my Mini Cooper. It is a bit slow sometimes, but it feels very good. There is software update to improve the transmission already. You can also turn off weather alerts and many individual alerts or tweak them the way you want.

Transmission update makes a huge difference. They should have never released it until they had the fix.

There are software updates for those phantom sensors.
I have a Turbo S .P.P. and absolutely LOVE this vehicle. I get so many compliments and questions when out in public.

A key requirement for us was to be able to fit both of our recumbent, electrified trikes (ICE Sprint X and Catrike Dumont) in the back without folding them. In our Subaru Outback and BMX X5 there is not enough length behind the front seats to get them in without folding. The CX-90 PHEV is long enough behind the front seats that I can now fit them both in without folding them (a big hassle). I put my trike in forwards with the motor/pedals going slightly between the front seats and then my wife's in backwards so her rear wheel come us just beside my driver's side seat.

Neither do I. I also disable I-Stop which improves the vehicles performance.

Not an SUV that I would buy purely because of the size. It's to big for me. I drive a SUV. That being said, hats off to Madza. I do like it, but not a fan of the white interior. And yes, barely passing the bike was a negative. I am sure Madza will continue to refine. Good review as always.

Every new model released will have performance or technical issues to overcome. Some are more annoying than others. Knowing that it is usually best to buy the second or third iteration that typically will have resolved those performance or technical glitches.

The new CX-70 will be more refined. Mazda makes the announcement on Jan 30th.

It's definitely a great SUV but a missed opportunity in my opinion. They engineered the CX-90 exclusively for North America and all they did was make it slightly wider than the CX-80 so there can be 3 seats in the third row. It should've been way bigger, Grand Cherokee L big.
