Sad to hear you didn't ride valhalla because it is an amazing water ride for a amusment park, it would fit in at any disney or universal park and still be one of the best!

There is a lot of great history with Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Walt Disney himself came to this park and it gave him some inspiration for his Disneyland theme park. The River Caves ride is a good example as this was the ride that inspired him to build the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. As a way of saying thanks for giving him inspiration for his park, Disney gave Blackpool Pleasure Beach permission to build one ride of their choice that is similar to one of his rides and they built the Alice ride.

I sometimes don't understand why people don't mention revolution, maybe I'm just exactly the right height to avoid headbanging but I think it is a cool, forcefull ride that even gives some great airtime. Tbh I would call it the best arrow I've ridden due to the fact that it doesn't have any turns that could and annihilate your ears.

I think you gave a fairly accurate view of the park, I think the big dipper and grand national are better than your comment about them suggests, but you can get a good or bad ride on them depending on many factors. I totally agree about icon as well. The big one is interesting because when it was built (when I was a teenager) it was the tallest and faster roller coaster in the world. Blackpool (actually the UK as a whole) has never been able to compete with the American parks since, so even though I agree with how you reviewed the ride examining just the ride itself, I think it represents far more to British people (especially those of us from the North.)

Magical place. I was brought up in Blackpool, and back in the 70s and 80s the park was free and you paid at each ride rather than a day pass. Spring was always an exciting time when the park started to open after winter close for all the locals. My dad would take me each Sunday for a couple of rides only 30p. Pleasure beach would give a strip of tickets to every local child through schools. The wooden coasters are iconic and superb - grand national is a fantastic rush of 1935 rollercoaster nostalgia with two trains racing against each other. the funhouse once stood where Valhalla now is situated (it burnt down) - an amazing place you could stay all day with slides, moving floors, spinning barrels, spinning turntables that you tried to be the last one to stay on before being flung off. Sad it has gone. Great ghost train. Fabulous place.

  • @MondoCoasters

    Hey that's my home park!
Honestly I'm so pleased you ended up enjoying yourself there.
Although, I am a bit sad that you and Logan didn't really get to see everything it had to offer. Because of time constraints we had to skip the other four dark rides in the park, Ghost Train, River Caves, Wallace and Gromit and Alice in wonderland. I think if at the very least we managed to get those done, your outlook on the park would've been so much more positive. But hey, at least that's another reason to go back! (And of course Valhalla is amazing so that alone has to warrant a trip back!)

Maybe I'm talking from a nostalgic perspective but this is my favourite UK park.
There is a lot of variety in it's rides and attractions, something which Thorpe and Alton towers lack these days. It has the best collection of wooden coasters and classic rides and even has vintage dark rides like the Alice in Wonderland (which is a meme in its self) the river caves and the ghost train. It's a shame you didn't get chance to ride Valhalla as it's by far the best dark)water ride in the UK. Would rather ride this over hex.
    Also, Icon is awesome.

    Hi there.
Glad to hear you had a great time when you were over hear visiting our theme parks. On the subject of Valhalla, it’s a shame that it was closed on the day you were at Pleasure Beach, though effects wize chances are you might be a little bit disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it is a great water - dark ride when it’s operating, but it is really expensive to maintain, especially the effects which involved fire balls and all that stuff. So you’ll injoy it as a water ride, for it’s 1 of the wettest in the u.k. next to Tidal wave at Thorpe Park, Storm Force 10 at Drayton Manor Park, And Drenched at Oak wood theme park. But as a dark ride you might be just a little under whelmed.
As for the wild mouse, I’ve personally ridden this ride a few times, and I can tell you, that it’s crazy, in a good way I think. For a ride as intense as that 1, the only restraint you have is a pure and simple seat belt, nothing else. But I love the coaster for it’s insanity, and on behalf of other fans, I was sorry to see it go. Personally I’d rather see Steeple chase go as it was 1 of my least favourite coasters in the park, but I guess that’s the way of things.

I do agree the coaster line up isn’t as good as other places but I feel like that’s because of how small the park is and therefore coasters are forced to limit their size and layouts. Also i don't know if it was just where I was sat but Grand National was the roughest thing I've ever been on, wouldn't ride that again. Great review as well :)

It's a notoriously rough ride, probably since it's got the oldest track dating from 1934 (I believe Big Dipper was refurbished a few years later)

Don’t forget tho you are from America which has bigger rides. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the oldest theme park in the UK. Yes it has its ups and downs but you need to come back to try Valhalla. You will love it

This is kind of my logic. I live in England, but in the south west so it’s quite far. I would love to visit Blackpool but it’s so far and I only get to go to like 2/3 theme parks a year which is Thorpe park and Alton towers.

I went to pleasure beach when i was 13 and was SO disappointed, the queues were ridiculous because it was the height of summer. I managed to ride the bobsled and the avatar ride and that was about it, really wish I could go back to try everything else out.

    Gullivers Land
    Flamingo Land
    Wicksteed Park
    Lego Land
    Drayton Manor
    Chessington World of Adventures
Fantasy Island (and might as well go to Butlins Skegness for the lols)
I Grew up at these places. They are such a fun day out

I have been to this park twice the first time was for the credits and Valhalla so we queued up for it and when we got on the ride it broke down
The second time it broke down at the same place
Then the third time and guess what it broke down again so we gave up
The second time it was closed but I could be going back in August
Anyways I like the rollercoasters not infusion or steeplechase and I haven’t been on icon yet
My prediction is that infusion would close and steeplechase will as well and add a b&m invert and a sky rocket ll

Next time you are in the UK I would recommend going back to Blackpool for Valhalla, as you can pay for 1 ride only. for the rest of the day I recommend sandcastles, a indoor waterpark, as thats enjoyable, and you said you did not enjoy the rest of the pleasure beach

Valhalla is my favorite ride in the UK. Such an amazing ride when it's working properly.
Also, I've been noticing some really quick cuts between footage, and while I'm pretty sure it's nonintentional, it would be smoother without them there (check out 4:30 in this video if you're not sure what I mean). Great review otherwise!

Valhalla is the best water ride. Period. Some other great attractions such as the grand national, steeple chase too. I’m going back this year to ride icon. I try to head up once a year or so. It’s my favourite park, even over Alton towers just because it has a charm and intrigue to it. The old rides excite me more because they’re so different.

If you'd have visited before Icon, you would have got on the Wild Mouse , which was one the most insane coasters 👌
It's also a shame that you didn't get to visit the park in its heyday. It's changed a lot recently, nowhere near as charming as it used to be. They really need to start looking after the park history.

I've been here 4 times now 2x in 2015 and 2x in 2018 and I just love the charm of the park.

Love your park reviews, Taylor. :) The only thing I really disagree with is when you said Icon is the only good Coaster in the park. While old classics like the Big Dipper and National are rough as hell, they don't make wooden coasters like that anymore. They may not pack the same punch as some of the RMC's you lucky American's have, but all things considered, they're super fun rides with lots of airtime.

Blackpool is by far my favourite UK visit. The River Caves, Wallace and Gromit, Valhalla... Icon is a perfect front row rider coaster - The Grand National is a great Wood.. just ... I just love the place. The ONLY thing that can dampen a day there is the company you go with. If you visit with someone who knows the gems = Great day. If you go with a moaning mini = average.
