- 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xE review by The Straight Pipes. The Jeep Wrangler 4xE is pumping out 375hp and 470 lb-ft torque from a hybrid 2L Turbo 4 cylinder. Sitting at $74,585 CAD, would this be your pick over Ford Bronco?

It has a really big grill maybe as big as Jakub :p but electric ?!!
I was pretty excited about this initially, but I wouldn’t want to take a gamble on jeep reliability with their first electric version. The search goes on

I think this is a great idea for overlanding. Using that extra power to run a fridge and lights and whatever else when you get to camp is awesome. No need for a dual battery setup like on a traditional ICE jeep.
It's stupid. And people that own electric cars are idiot Democrat Sheep.
@@kimberlylay1005 to be fair, i didn’t care about the drivetrain having an electric assist. I just think it would be cool to use that massive battery for overlanding stuff. I have a dual battery setup in my 4runner to run a fridge and camp lights but if the truck came wired with a big battery that required no modification from me, that would be cool.

I was looking forward to this review. A family member of mine recently helped defend Jeep against a lawsuit Jaguar filed against them due to the name “4 by e”, which Jaguar argued would cause confusion between a Jeep and the Jaguar e-type. Jaguar lost the settlement, for obvious reasons.
They should focus on not dying instead of copyright.
Not thinking ANYONE would confuse the Jaguar with a Jeep Wrangler. IF someone did, they deserve to be ridiculed for 3 months with the Housewives of LA on TV on full blast while being water boarded at the same time.
“The good part of Wasaga is done.” Truer words have not been spoken on this show. Cruising the strip will never be the same.
I’ve been watching 4Xe videos for a week because I’m about to get one I’m so glad you guys made a video 😩
For low speed off roading, especially rock crawling, nothing beats electric propulsion. This is brilliant.
The RIVIAN is a much better electric truck especially with an electric motor on each wheel (and won't be much more expensive). No need for Transfer case, Lockers, transmission. This Jeep is obviously meant for the the people that buy them to cruise around town, to the mall and gym where they plug for an hour, which is 95% of Jeep owners.
And can't imagine it being Chrysler product how much is going to go wrong with the Electric system.
@@hazepheno925 sorry but the rivian is a truck that 99% of people buy to virtue signal. A wrangler isn't a good daily driver compared to alternatives tbh so good luck to those who does that.
A plug in wrangler can go places with no worry about refueling. Fact that it can use electric propulsion at low speeds means it is also excellent for off road work.
I do not understand how you can slag stellantis as being unreliable but totally ok with a new manufacturer. Bet you are one of those if Rivian was Chinese, will make jokes about the name and say it is crap.
@@TsLeng Virtue signal? What. Sounds like a jeep owner is mad someone said most have never seen dirt with their Jeep. Now that isn't virtue signaling. I'd call that being a Poser.
Buying a much nicer truck, 2x the power, 10x the Electric range, built in the USA, for $10-$15k more. Virtue signal my ass.
This Xe is a total gimic that only newbs and soccer mom mall warriors are going to buy them.
Let's read some reviews of people with garbage Fiat Chrysler products.
A Wranger 4xe owner with 326 miles on the vehicle - "Seven days later Jeep engineers from corporate flew here on-site to the local dealership, they completed the investigation with the conclusion that my 4xe needs a new transmission... It only took 60 days for the new transmission to arrive. When it got here, it turned out that the engineers didn’t mention to the dealership that they supposed to order a wiring harness too. That was supposed to arrive in 1-2 days. Of course, it didn’t. As of today, it is nearly 3 months the Jeep is in the dealership and from my pocket the rental car."
After 326 miles!! Bad Transmission. Won't even pay for a rental car, after buying a $60k vehicle and putting 326 miles on it. Certainly not a virtue signal, just a waste of money.
I will never buy a Chrysler product. Except for Jeep Wrangers (older ones) you never see Chryslers older than 8 years on the road for a reason.
@@hazepheno925 you have too much time on your hands and obviously a rivian fanboy. Why I dunno. I can understand elon fanbois but this is bizarre.
I don't live in the US nor own a wrangler much less a stellantis product. But I have the brain cells go think and deduce my opinion is true.
Good luck with off roading in an EV lmao.
I'm considering the MPG with this Jeep. 49MPG. OMG, in both of my wranglers, with light tire upgrades. Rubi had a 2in lift and front bumper upgrade. Also Automatic, JK a 6 speed. Best I could get was 15-18 mpg. But I also have a heavy foot. This engine set up has double the HP as my 06. Rubi had 190hp, this one has 375. JK was 230, I think. Rubi had I-6, JK, V6. I'm very amazed with this but worry about battery issues. New Tech and all. Love your review. I look forward to watching the other ones. New fan.
49 mpg for 1 gallon sorry to kill it
"since it's electric what does it sound like on the outside" my soul hurt listening to that.
i bet it sound like wheels
Below a certain speed there are front and rear speakers that generate a sound to alert pedestrians.

I personally have no grudge against electric off roaders, im really hoping to see more of things like this. This is super cool to me. Im curious if all the suspension and everything can be modded just as much as the normal jeeps, given thats the main seller, for me atleast, when it comes to jeeps.

Good review guys! ...but the Bronco and Bronco Sport will both be coming in PHEV. Don't forget the Fusion Energy and C-Max Energy have been out for years. Same platform as the Bronco Sport. Then the Hybrid transmission that is in the F-150 is a direct bolt-in for the Bronco.

Hi dad
I love my 4xe! It drives like a dream. That electronic charge could last a little longer than it does but what can you do. 😎
Me too. Agreed!!
The electric noises when turning the wheel are due to the power steering pump (and A/C compressor) being electric and not belt driven. Otherwise they wouldn't work in electric only mode!
I’ve got the diesel one 10 days ago and I love it. I didn’t know they made an electric rubicon but I still would like to try it out
You made the best choice you could. The 4xe is nothing special. Your jeep will run for a lot longer than a 2.0t Chrysler hybrid power train.
The rollback is not an issue on hills as there is a "hill start assist" that automatically applies the brake for a moment as the vehicle engages - grades over 8% I think. The Jeep doesn't roll back before acceleration.
lol jakub's face on that launch is like my baby trying food and realizing she doesn't like it... "what did you just feed me this is disgusting"
It regens even when the button on the console is not switched on. That just enables more aggressive regen.
just picked up one of these as a daily! such an awesome truck for just getting around town in electric mode, plus they have amazing lease deals rn! sub 300 a month! def recommend . I got the Sahara with a soft top and love it!
Hey, how were you able to score on a $300 lease deal?
@@victoralmonte1694 the 7500 tax credit goes towards your down payment when you lease, plus these went up in price, they are a lot more now.
@@phillipberk5767 I've been eyeing a Wrangler, or Gladiator since childhood, and I completely forgot about that $7500 incentive. That ain't small either lol, and it isn't just for leasing on the Jeep website, you get it with financing too.

10:40 Yuri behaved like a grandma when you did something bad lmao

Those dad reflexes kicking in
The so-called "Nagivator".
That noise when you’re turning the wheel is probably an electric hydraulic pump since you can’t really have a full EPAS system with a recirculating ball system that’s in a Jeep.
Just came across your channel. Loved this vid. You two dudes have great personalities and covered a lot of stuff. One thing I love about the 4xe is that there are quite a few USB-A ports in the front and back, making it super easy to charge devices or use devices for passengers especially.
11:53 you guys need a correction to your correction. The radio is UConnect 4, not UConnect 5. The 5 is the one you get in the new Durango and Pacifica
Saw one of these on the highway today, didn't know they were shipping to customers!
Also, Jakub looks like a new, hotter man...wow!
The one thing you guys didn’t cover was what happens when the battery dies. How does it drive when all you have is the four-cylinder engine? Is it pathetically under powered?
I want to by this but in like 3 years when they work out kinks and have more power, I feel like that is going to be perfection
Don’t want to wait forever and let your Life pass you by
When someone says it drives like a Jeep, don’t take that as a con. The fact it drives the way it does, it’s attractively scary. It handles like a tractor, you feel the road under you even with big tires. Going around a corner the body roll feels humorous. Even going the the grocery store is an exciting drive... it’s addicting. And then on top of that, the reactions you receive from hikers and side-by-side owners while you’re in the middle of no where on a 4x4 trail that you shouldn’t be able to do, but it just does it no problem... it’s priceless.
Wow so glad you guys did a vehicle on this Jeep! I think it’s awesome and the electricity could help on the trail
Nice. !! The top you are showing is called Sky-One Touch top. The Freedom top is another roof option
Baby got you up Yuri? Haven't seen a Sunday night post in a LOONG time!
There was an embargo that just lifted at 12:00 AM EST.
Jeep really hit it out of the park with this one. The hybrid decision was genius for the way most of us use them - electric in city and gas out in the boonies. You can sleep in your car and have the A/C or heat run ALL NIGHT because the gas engine kicks on automatically to charge the battery - game changing. And it keeps the same drivetrain past the transmission which means parts are interchangeable with other Jeeps. Plus battery is guaranteed for 10 years. Super excited to get one when I have everything saved up.
@@Scypher0th if you were actually a member of the jeep community you would know that we are psyched for this. Dealerships around me haven't been able to keep them in stock on the lot.
The 4xe has more than enough power and torque to use with big wheels and tires, and still gets 20 miles on the battery with a lift and 35s.
Here early! Had to say that I love the editing quality on these videos. Funniest mans on RUclips
Issue with your launch was that it wasn’t in awd, in awd it is much faster because in rwd in limits the power
This feels like a compliance car to bring down fleet MPG and meet regulation targets. That’s why they didn’t even bother with marketing it. Jeep is not serious about electrification yet.
Probably an electric power steering pump making that noise when ya turn
I am excited for the V8 Jeep! please do a review
Pretty cool that they hid the battery under the seats. As for the comfort? It doesn't matter. The second row isn't comfortable to begin with
Well, I really want a Chrysler product now. So that’s fun
If you can put up with questionable quality and reliability in exchange for a very fun car, then go for it.
No you don’t. You seriously don’t. They are WAY overpriced and they are the least reliable, on top of that everything is insanely cheap all the interior pieces are cheap plastic and poorly assembled. My brother has a 2017 Chrysler 300S and I used to work at a car rental agency... Chrysler’s are the worst cars I know of.
Just waiting on that Pacifica Widebody Redeye 392 with Launch Control.
Yeah no you don't. Quality is not their strong suit. Dealers fight you on every repair covered under the warranty. Trust me you be at dealership often.
I don't think anyone would ever say that if they've previously had a Chrysler product. I know I wouldn't.
all i have to say is I worked on a 2.0 wrangler today with 9,000 miles that had a horrific knock on startup!
Excellent. This is a great next step to a full electric Jeep Wrangler!
i have absolutely zero interest in a hybrid Rubicon, but i'm sure someone will buy it. The hybrid grand Cherokee coming out in 2022 makes a lot more sense
Sorry Yuri bro but it was funny on 8:43 when u said geas 😭💯! You guys make reviews fun!
This should be the "MODEL" for ALL SUV's in North America!! The hybrid with today's tech is so possible. Personally, I'd love to go wheeling in the desert or rocks in all E-mode!! Wow, just super cool. Merci
Not to mention you could use it as a power source when boondocking
I had the first version of the sun slider top in my Liberty. It was so nice in the warmer seasons, but a slight bummer I had to get aftermarket roof rails if I wanted to put anything up top.
Great production as always guys. Would have liked for you to cover the most important aspect of a hybrid car and that is l/100km.
We had barely any time with it
That's unfortunate, looks like they might have fixed the Hercules heal of the Rubicon which is fuel consumption. Thanks again guys
Don’t know if this was for Patreon but glad I caught this lol
Just embargo I think
You can get it in a manual, TFL posted one with a manual transmission.
No you can't. The one they were driving was just a prototype...
A Chrysler hybrid drivetrain product? Oh man, anyone buying this is brave.
Not enough people realize this and it's so unfortunate
Its amazing! Best driving wrangler there is! I love it!! Test drive one!!
10,000 miles and no problems yet.
Why do u say that Incas considering this jeep. Never had a Jeep before I’m pretty new to it
@@AC-ly6tg cause he’s and idiot lol
1:30 I do believe that when you're doors are off and top is down you will be hearing you're tire noise at full blast, it is a jeep wrangler after all.
Sick Jeep! I’m really excited to see a hybrid powertrain in a proper Jeep! Excellent review as always!!!
I have a ‘21 Jeep Cherokee with the 2.0T, and it is a blast to drive. The torque just pulls it along nicely.
I have a 2018 JLUR & it’s paid-off, so very hard for me to justify the 4xE economically. I still like where the tech is going in that in-town errands can be done w/o gas.
I think the funny whirring noises from the front end were normal electric power steering pump sounds - the difference being the engine was off so they weren't hidden by an idling V6.
Next: jeep rubicon 392? 👀👀
Had to come back to this vid since today was the first time I saw one on the road
I like more cars going hybrid but this Jeep feels like it needs to fully commit
My mom got one of these not the rubicon though and it’s in hydro blue and almost went 1000 miles on the first tank of gas
I love how none of these car reviews ever question the reliability of the vehicles now the jeep we know it’s absolutely reliable and it has no turbos the Ford however does and Ford is built many questionable engines in the last 20 years, and yet we’re supposed to consider this a real review And just eliminate the Question of reliability and cost, which every jeep owner knows is zero first 200,000 miles I guarantee at the Ford will not be zero
I just posted that this Jeep 4XE will destroy wrangler reputation Turbo combined with hybrid is nothing but trouble waiting to happen, I don’t care what anyone claims in terms of reliability.
Absolutely a better pick over the Ford Bronco , this 4Xe looks awesome.
It's Sunday Morning here.🇧🇩
On the dash it was showing 13.6 kpg (17.5 mpg), is that because you guys were driving hard, or is that what people can expect for gas mileage?

@@Max_Thunder lol
I am sure someone in the comments already mentioned it, but it's U Connect 4. Most of us are hoping the 2022s are getting U Connect 5
I feel like owning this would just make me wish it was fully electric. The small battery and big lump of an engine is really holding it back.
I think the PHEV is the best of both worlds. You can’t really road trip in an EV (yet). Love the torque of an EV, but I need the range.
@@GaryKetchum808 I think there's lots of benefits a full EV Wrangler could have over a PHEV that would appeal to buyers. A bigger, underfloor battery could make it more stable on the highway and decrease the likelihood of a rollover. The floor could be flat, removing the big transmission tunnel hump characteristic of Wranglers. Without an engine you could instead use that space for storage. One last thing to consider about range is that despite the current struggles with finding a place to charge, road tripping in a Wrangler EV would probably be much cheaper than doing the same in a PHEV, which surely should remove some of the sting of having to wait a few more minutes to top up. The Wrangler is a thirsty vehicle. I think Tesla has shown that road tripping in an EV is very possible, and that with time, the third party charging infrastructure will catch up.
I think PHEV will help people transition to electric.
Imagine the problem when cars first began to replace horses…..and people had used horses for HUNDREDS OF GENERATIONS.
The electric grid is gonna need changes, more fast charging stations, and better security (hackers and solar flare events)
@@directorjustin I think it's worth mentioning the elephant in the room. This is a Jeep not a Tesla! From 50,000 ft I imagine a decision was made to transition to electric to get with the times and that's fine. Offroading is more energy hungry, further from charge stations, and you don't have braking regen like you would slowing down going through an on-road corner.
EV and offroading does not mix, but that's not to say this won't be in favor of people who dig the brand and just want to go to the mall. Lastly, that "lump of an engine" is the main show here, the GME engine is where most of the toque is coming from here (300 ft lbs of it).
@@zefzone-215 I'd argue that off roading is more energy efficient than high speed highway driving. EVs are really at their best from a dead stop to a slow roll. That's when you get the most torque. A full EV Wrangler would have a bigger battery which means more torque for low speed crawling. Also, I see no reason why you couldn't have hill descent control with regenerative braking.
I wouldn’t sit on the seats above battery. I’ve decided on diesel now.
It's a shame you didn't just drive a normal 2l jeep. One of the best cars I've driven. So much power and so smooth!
$65,000 at my local dealer I’ll keep my taco for now if Toyota doesn’t respond within the next 3 years I’ll start contemplating the idea of owning a wrangler. I’m ok with it being Chrysler since Chrysler doesn’t get involved much with jeep, great video btw and great idea on having the batteries under the seat jeep always thinking about off roading before anything else!
I had a 07 Dodge Nitro R/T in Electric Blue.. I loved it.
The roleback isnt the problem you can just press on the breaks whenever you're going into drive.
The real case is for people who want to lift and change wheels then drive them on their electrical engines. Some wranglers need parts to be changed other than basic lift accessories.
Still would rather sit on a battery pack vs a gas tank. 💥 typically a battery fire allows you time to escape, a gas fire not so much.
I don't think you guys were the only ones who missed the marketing. This is the first I've heard of this Jeep, still pretty cool tho.
The way they started that hood shot with the "BICON" of "Rubicon", for a second I thought Jeep had made a Bitcoin model.
Give it a few months andthey will
i like it only thing i would like to see is them figure out how to control all the noise from the electrical components
Love the timing it's Lunch time here! Heheh 🏁🇵🇭
It be cool if you guys could do a comparison video with the new Audi RS7 with the BMW M8, Hellcat, AMG C63S, or the Cadillac CT6 BlackWing
"we're not marketing" oh Yuri...you sweet summer child...lmao
Lol we don’t get PAID but ya we’re def not hard hitting journalists here
It may be electric but the question is is it more reliable?
After watching this man I’m glad I got my ecodiesel rubicon LOL instant torque and also fast in the highway
Are you joking? The diesel is the slowest engine option on the new Wranglers for 0-60.
Not at all instant torque. Takes forever to spool. Shit motor, we replace at least 1 a week at my dodge shop. Turbo is trash too. Trash fuel economy and not fast on the highway. Rubicon have to be some of the most poorly made modern car ever. Enjoy your water leaks and shit highway ride my man!
Just put my 4Xe on order last Friday.
what are the average mpg's in hybrid mode? or just in general
My mom has one of these it went almost 1000 miles on one tank of gas if your just like driving to work and around town and stuff

@@Slickpete83 I think we are saying the same thing.
With 4Runner you can have 1 engine going back to 2009. I should hope it’s reliable by now.
Wranger in that time has had a v6 gas, v6 mild hybrid, v6 diesel, 4cylinder turbo mild hybrid, 4 cylinder turbo, V8, and now this 4 cylinder plug in hybrid. So you choose whatever you want. BTW that v6 simple gas engine in the Wrangler has won WARD’s best engine award multiple times. So keep it simple in any brand and you won’t have issues.
