I never understood why people drain the entire system to replace a part at the top of the system. You’ll have very minimal coolant loss by just removing the hose on the thermostat.
Thanks for the information, bud. I got a P0128 with three key turns to on with this service job. Temps only got up to 172° on the scanner. I remember this code from all the GM temp sensors ive replaced. Pretty simple setup for the heeps. Ill be using the mittyvac to remove air first. Hope i dont have to open the bleeder to get it right.
Thanks! Was having the same issues with my JK but after driving it around for a couple minutes and doing this re-fill for the second time, the level did not rise much, unlike the first time.
Just take the intake tube off and the hose clamp. Then remove the thermostat. You might lose a quarter cup or maybe a half cup from your coolant. Youll cycle that tiny bit of air out just getting to temp and driving. The reservoir will fix the small amount of air bubbles. Plus, if you leave the hose on the thermostat until you have the thermostat off youlose basically nothing. Put new thermostat on the engine, and then remove hose from old thermostat and install on new installed new thermostat. No air to bleed really...id think
Yeah it's better to have it up on ramps when you start. Keeps the heater core full of fluid. Then the coolant you lose is just from the radiator, hoses, and maybe the water pump.
Im hoping this fixes my issue. I dont have a check engine light. But when i do city driving(stop and go, and speeds at around 40mph) it goes from 1/2 to 3/5 then it goes down the 1/2... i have no issue with highway driving
My 2016 got that code at 55k miles, so far radiator replaced, rear axle seal leak, from calipers replaced, a Toyota is just 1/2 way broken in at 50K miles, a Jeep is 1/2 way to death at 50k miles. Rather have it stuck open, than not open. Put it at a incline to get those bubbles out faster.
I messed myself up on a 1986 Honda XL600 late 1988, I got hit by a car taking a left turn, in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, shattered my left leg, 9 months in a cast, rods, bone healer, sucked big time.
Appreciate the vid but its less messy and faster to just unbolt the thermostat housing and let the quart amount antifreeze come out into a catch pan instead of emptying the rad
ohh shit chris i started this video and didn't look at the channel name and when I heard your voice i'm like i know this guys voice. lol crazy need to change out my thermostat in my 17 JKU cuz the 205 just runs way too hot with 4.56 gears so a 180 will run a little cooler.
So my temp goes between 1/2 to 3/4 when I do city driving. I have no issues on a highway, it's only at slower speeds(40mph or less) and stop and go with traffic. Would this possible fix it? 15 wrangler with 90k miles
@@amandaangelo68 mine didn't have a check engine light or anything so I didn't hook up my super chip. I just went and replaced it. It works like a charm
I currently had my check engine light come on for this. Would it be bad to drive it for a few days before changing the part out or will my car overheat?
It’s completely safe to drive with this code, just means your motor not getting up to temp in a certain period of time, your T-Stat is locked open, so you will not overheat, good design, locking closed would be a problem, and cause overheating. This code will happen more in cold weather than hot, as you’ll use the heater.
Don't buy anything past 2004 anything made after that is complete garbage. I have a 2014 I'm on my third radiator 4th thermostat and just replace the oil pump.

I’m glad to see that you videoed having trouble and how you worked through it. Most people would’ve edited that shit out. Love the honesty.
Appreciate your vid, even the messes…because that’s the realities of these jobs…glad to see it’s a DIY job!

Me either 🤣
Supposed to change it every 6 year's
Thanks for your help. If I lived next door I’d come over and clean up your Wrangler. The engine pressure washes real good.
thank you so much for this video, this was my first self repair and i think i’ve caught the bug lol

Dude, great video! I love the editing and the straight forward explanation.
Thanks!

Great video! Thank you. 👊 My buddy and I plan on changing his Jeep's T-Stat tomorrow.
Thanks, and awesome, good luck on it. Super easy job.
A mechanic told him that his trouble will not clear if he buys an aftermarket T-Stat. Any truth to that, as far as you know?
I have put plenty of aftermarket thermostats in these without any issues or come backs. Of course OEM is always a better bet though
@@kevingentry7519 that's what I heard as well. How did you make out with the repair?
@@dougcoleburn1579 You're testing my memory! 😂 If I remember right, he didn't need it after all. Buddy has fantastic videos, nonetheless. 🙌

Ride the Jeep up ramps, so you point the front end up and the air can make its way up easier.

Yes all the best DIY videos feature specialty tools like slotted sockets lmao
Thanks for this! Learned next work to do on mine!
"I'm getting pissed on" 😆! Great vid!
0:56 I felt that
Thanks for the vid! Did this cause a burning smell before replacing?
Great video! Very informative

Ohh, I see you ride a 1980's Honda XL,---with what looks like a pretty heavy shock spring. :)

Good time to change out the antifreeze
After replacement did you have issues with overheating?
Where did you get the socket?

If you park on an incline the heater core won't trap air.
I wonder what kind of grease he used to put the housing back on ? Anybody ??

I hear the fan on too
Run code see if thermostat pops up. Mine is doing same and I have that code

that socket tho!!!
U ever do a pass side valve cover gasket on a 13-14 3.7 grand cherokee?

I only get this code in the winter. Never in spring summer.
Thumbs up 👍
How long did it take to change the thermostat
30 min
How are you not goin to show us how to take out the part this video is about tf

I just replaced water pump and thermostat. Still heating up.
I heard that lol. Hunk of 💩
