I just changed the spark plugs and coil packs. The whole set hadn’t been changed since the motor had 0 miles . 170000 miles later after I did the tune up there was a huge difference in performance. Thanks for the video it helped so much.
So you also miss the days of poor performance, smelly exhaust, noisy (not the good sounding) engines. Bad gas mileage, over heating problems, crank windows, no A/C, sloppy suspensions, and all the other shit technology that’s been improved upon over the years??

My future son-in-law and I did this in 3hrs today. I thought for first timers it was a good time. He’s 17. I have a 2016 unlimited sport. There was a bracket between the battery and the manifold w 4-10 bolts we had to remove that attached to the side of the manifold. Other than that it was straight forward. We tackled the passenger side first and I think that is easier, because the manifold is scary. If you change those 3, u can’t look back. I recommend a long and medium socket extension and you may need both size socket sets. There are some brackets and retainer walls that make a couple coils and plugs hard to get too. We only had the long extension for the plugs. It was a fun experience and big confidence booster for both of us. Purring like a kitten and no codes 💪🏻
Hey man !!! Thanks so much, I actually was watching your video and copying what you were doing on my wife’s Jeep JK. She is so emotional about her Jeep and she called me from work and was freaking out about her Jeep having some long crank issues and demanded I change her plugs. It took me 3 hours and a lot of patience and bravery as I didn’t want to mess anything up by doing such a dismantling. But it worked out ! I actually prayed to God that he would help me not to break any plastic clips or lose anything where I couldn’t get it, and to help me do a good job. I have worked on a lot of cars and trucks in the past with no issues but today’s engine bays are packed so tight that you got to remove 3 things just to get to what is broken. Anyway thanks again. I just subscribed and thumbs up.
"Hopefully, It starts..." Spoken like a true do it yourselfer. I changed the plugs/upper plenum gaskets on my JK last night...what an adult vocabulary workout. I've changed the plugs on all my vehicles...but this was by far the most involved. Good news is, it started right up...bad news is, I wasn't aware that there was a tightening sequence on the upper intake bolts and believe I cracked the lower intake, as there is now what sounds like a vacuum leak...which means I get to do this all over again...and then some. Protip: Know the tightening sequence and do NOT exceed 7lbs torque....the lower intake is plastic, and WILL crack. Buh bye another $200.
Thanks for posting the video - I've changed plugs on the 3.8 (pretty simple) but first go at the 3.6 and saw they were under the manifold on the right side so appreciate all of the tips.
I was watching this and was thinking man you need to get another cover for your spod. Then I see you using it as a parts tray. Genius man. Way to adapt and overcome.
i did this today, and the video was helpful in helping me to make sure i didn't miss anything,. as for re-securing the intake, I used a 1/4 screwdriver style tool with the 8mm ratchet, and just made everything hand- tight.
I was thinking that I met as well swap out the oil cooler while the intake manifold is off - and replace with an aluminum Dorman part since we know it's just a matter of time before the plastic OE part starts leaking. So plugs, gaskets, and oil cooler make sense to do at same time. I have 55K on my JK.
thanks brother! I will be changing my plugs and coils this weekend on my 2015 JKU. It will also be in the parking garage for my apartment building like you hahah
2014 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. 67K took in for DTC P0306, but it was covered under warranty because of the #2 Cylinder was showing issues as well. That was 2019. Now, I'm just shy of 150K and getting a P0305 and P0205 DTC. Going to be changing the Spark plugs and Fuel Injectors myself.
Are you completely missing the bracket on the left side of the manifold? On my '14, there is a bracket with two screws that completely prevent you from removing the plenum that easily. I ended up having to loosen up the back right bracket on the bottom and remove the front bracket all together. Random aside for all of the people saying you need to check the gap, if you are using iridium plugs, you don't mess with it because you can break the diode. Overall, good video that highlights the big points.
The two 10mm bolt brackets are the issue. The front bracket needs to come off while the rear two bolts needs to be loosened for the bracket to slide off the bolts.
Helpful tip if anyone notices a little bit of oil down by the spark plug it’s because the plug gasket is failing and should be replaced. Adds another 2hrs to project.
Good video. I have 165k on my original plugs. I just ordered new plugs, wires and coil pack. Lately it occasionally won’t fire right away so I hope that’s all it needs.
I need to do this to my wife's 2012 jeep. Not looking forward to it. But thanks to your video. It might not be as bad as I thought. Her's has 109000 miles and seems to have lost its spunk the last 2000 miles. Hope plugs is all it needs.
Keep in mind, that even though Irridium spark plugs (like from NGK) say they are pre-gapped, always check each spark plug. Human error occurs and you will commonly find spark plugs that need to be adjusted.
Hola Hello, your video helped me a lot, could you make a video to explain the injector and throttle body flushing? Thank you very much in advance, I send you a hug from Mexico City.
