I felt the same way until i decided to do it.. after not able to pull out thr air intake on Sunday.. i left it all taken apart until Thursday and i finally got it out. It takes lots and lots of pulling
I recently had to do the oil cooler and filter housing. Used this video as refrence because I decided to do my plugs and coil packs while I had it open
Just finished replacing the ignition coil and spark plug on cylinder 6. Not a fun job, but definitely beats taking it to a shop. Thanks for the tutorial!
What this guy left out: The nuts under the intake plenum on the right side (driver) are 13 mil The rear nut has a bracket on it for the condenser lines. You’ll need a long handled 13 box wrench to get it loose, flipping it back and forth each time. The 8 mil screws (7) that come out of the top of the plenum need to be completely removed, especially the rear one. The last two hoses can be removed after the plenum is halfway out. If you loosen the brackets with the 13’s enough and slide the plenum to the right it will come out of the bracket behind the throttle body.
Good video, the back bracket is a 13 mm at the bottom.. we also forgot to tell them about the 210 mm on the right hand side where coil 6 is….the only thing you didn’t have to do was you could’ve left a throttlebody on the intake itself. That’s what I typically do. Service data calls for 1.7 to 2.0hrs but can be done in 1 obviously not filming of course lol that slows it way down.
The air suspension is one of the best features about the car imo I’ve been driving the 2014-2021 3.6’s two different ones a 2014 and now a 2015 for maybe 6 years now. But you can easily take on 8” it’s a great off road car great for mudding if you want to the only problem is you only have about 8”-1’ till you’re cutting it close to the bottom and a full skid isn’t standard so I would do any serious off roading like you’d do with a lifted wrangler where you’re driving over boulders and huge divots, but there’s still a lot of land you can run on.
I just changed my plugs 2015 3.6 Grand Cherokee. I don't see the need to loosen the 2 lower bracket nuts on the driver's side. I removed the 2 nuts that attached to the 2 intake studs on the driver's side.
what oil cooler housing did you go with? there is that aluminum one by dorman that I've heard good and bad. mine weeps oil only when it gets really cold so having the dealer do it along with the plugs and coil packs as I like the vehicle.
@LJsGarage the 3rd spark plug is in back & under. It's the one that quit. Soo I'll have to dish out $$800 for a shop. All good! If I was a mechanic, no problemo. Thanks for the encouragement tho!
🤣 too funny. Trust me I was in a good situation with working from home, second car, and time. I just paid 500 for them to do my O2 sensor so I sucked it up 😤
@@LJsGarage $500 for a O2 sensor? Wow is that a the jeep dealer or independent shop? If it’s at a independent shop, that’ll mean they he dealer is like $800-$1000 or so, maybe. Im not looking forward for that repair.

An absolute nightmare of a job for me. After successfully getting the manifold off and installing the plugs, I have to remove it again to check if a connector is not on correctly. fml
Sure, it’s a fairly involved process, but in the end it’s just a sequence of bolts, screws, clamps and connectors. Nothing high tech. Just do it in order. Let’s say you normally earn 25 an hour, and you’d pay 600 for the job. Thats 24 hours, or 3 full days of work. It’s well worth it to do this yourself, and it’ll probably take no more than 5 hours for the least capable person.
All these parts need to be taken off just to replace spark plugs…..Don’t buy a Jeep they look nice but not reliable in the long run. Buy Toyota or Honda . Most reliable on the road and east to replace plugs a 10 year old can do it😂😂😂

As an aspiring diy-er, this video slowly became pure comedy as I began realizing there's a zero percent chance at doing this successfully myself.
Haha I love the honesty it was a rough one 😅

You can do it, it's just alot of little details
I am 100% confident in my abilities, and I am already irritated realizing I have to pull the manifold to get the driver side plugs.
It’s very simple you can do it.
excellent video! Straightforward and to the point without all the fluff. A+
Much appreciated! Hope it helped 🤞🏿
This seems overly complicated for replacing some damn spark plugs. Thanks jeep 😒
Nice video btw!
haha thanks and yeah wait till you see the O2 sensor...
@@LJsGarage I took one look at where the O2 sensors are and then took it straight to the dealer. 😳
@@LJsGarage once you get the intake tube off why can't you just replace the plugs on that side? It looks all open?
My thoughts too.
Try Removing the starter on a NorthStar engine......Smh!
Welp guess I'm not doing it myself. Good description though.
😂 not going to try and convince you... It was not fun
My same thoughts 🤣🤣

hello, kinda related , oil pressure sensor for that car , is it located inside the manifold ?
Right under it sadly
How long did it take in real time to remove the cover etc. to get to plugs?
About 2 hrs actually not fun but doable
What should a spark plug be gap to? I have a 2017 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 2 Wheel Dr. 3.6.
.043/.044 gap if I recall
Did you disconnect the negative part of the battery first?
I did not mention it in this video but it is recommended to do! I did this while doing my oil cooler housing so I was all over the place
@@LJsGarage thanks
Does the air intake case needs to clean?? Also why is there so much gunk in it?
Not usually and probably because this one had a rough life
Have you done fuel injector replacement?
Luckily I have not 🙏🏿

Understandable lol I have been alright so far, but I respect what you are saying
Why you removed the throttle body ?
To make more room. it makes it easier to get to the last two plugs
I just called the shop to see how much this is and they quoted $650. I'm a big DIY and this is cake, think I'll order the plugs here real soon.
Yeah its manageable for sure! 650 isnt too bad thats right at my budget for DIY lol

Good video. What did you do when the tube broke? What is that part called?
I taped it up for now lol it's the evap purge hose or purge valve. I'll replace it soon but it's like 50-75 for the whole thing 😒
The same thing happened to me and I glued it with tep and a waterproof liquid rubber spray. I don't know what it's called and what function it does,
Well, im changing mines since my jeep vibrates when idle
Good before it vibrates itself to death lol
Do you have to replace the intake manifold gaskets when doing this?
No, unless you notice they're messed up - either seal isn't right anymore, it's cracked, or broken
If there's like 200k miles might as well replace it anyway since you'll be that far into it though
Depends on the mileage you're at might as well
What did you do about the tube you broke at 2:23 same thing happened to me
Taped it up lol
This post is not accurate. You do not need to loosen the lower bracket that attaches to the intake. This is an extra laborious unnecessary process.
Thanks noted for next go around
You miss the chance to show us how to get to the hard screw
It was tough to film sorry!
What spark plug is in there originally
SP149125AE I believe is the part number for the Factory ones
Champion Spark Plugs original Jeep
Yea, I have a feeling it will all go well until I have to put it back together
Haha it's a pain
Does anyone know the line/hose that broke at 2:24
Evap Purge hose I believe you are talking about
So ✍️ completely break down the engine ✍️ drop a 13 pound weight on it ✍️ and then have a seizure because you forgot how you tore it down. Got it! 😂
