    Learn how to magic slide in three steps.
    1) UFO 2) RELEASE 3) SLIDE
    I started practising the magic slide about a month ago after seeing a Greg Mirzoyan magic slide tips video. I must say, the magic slide is a tonne of fun.
    The magic slide is a tried and true stopping method. Greg Mirzoyan said that this is his emergency brake. The magic slide is not only a great city skating technique but it is also used by downhill skaters. With some practice, the magic slide could be your emergency brake.
    To learn the magic slide we break it down into three steps.
    1) UFO position
    Get into the UFO position by getting into a wide stance, lunging to one side and then bringing your knees together.
    2) Release
    The release is achieved by slightly rotating and driving through our heel
    3) Slide
    The slide is a combination of counter rotation and drag
    There are many great magic slides tutorials online. Check out the Greg Mirzoyan tutorial - • Tips from Greg Mirzoya...
    and Roller line tutorial - • Magic slide / ufo (мэд...
    Next week we will break down the backwards entry into the Magic Slide

    I can already UFO grind (aggressive skater), I'm putting as much weight on the rear foot as possible to do this magic slide but my front wheels always dig in to the ground. Do I need a bigger beard?

    • @FlowSkate
      @FlowSkate  7 лет назад +30

      Haha! You probably just need to get a bit lower on the inside edge on the front foot.

    Hey its really interesting to see you doing this on wheels. I do these stops on ice during a hockey game ( if i cannot get the back foot onto its outside edge in time ) but i never thought they would work on an abrasive surface and I never realised they had a name. Very cool, I might give it a go .. eek, visions of catching an edge !

      Shaun currently I'm working on my rollerblading youtube channel for sharing with people the joy of rollerblading ! My topic is not really on how to rollerblading, even if yeah, I'll be sharing my experience etc... but it's more about how you can use rollerblading to improve your life, to feel good etc, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about ;) And, you are truly and inspiration to me, I almost can't believe how you taking your time to respond for every single comment like it's the only one, you make people feel that they matter, that's a huge human quality ! But that's not really a surprise , through your video's we feel your positive energy and your love for sharing your knowledge to help us. So yeeeaah ! keep up ! Namaste big bro !

    Your videos are so helpful. With the help of your video on power slides, I now can do power slides. One thing I am puzzled about on this magic slide video is that you point out Greg Mirzoyan's video. But he seems to be saying the opposite of what you do. You said put 80% of your weight on the back leg. GM says put all your weight on the forward leg. He said you could even put your back leg in your pocket. However, looking at his body position, centered over his rear leg, he seems to have his weight distributed as you describe.

    Hi Shawn,
    Thanks for the vid.. i have watched quite a numerous time.. lol
    just couldn't get it on the counter-rotation.
    Do you mean that after your right foot turn to the left and starts to slide , then you do a counter-rotation ; meaning trying to turn to your right?

  • @user-st9gu4tz8d
    @user-st9gu4tz8d 2 года назад

    You teach very well. Easy to understand. I will be as good as you. Haha.

  • @jkeiffer
    @jkeiffer 7 лет назад

    I think the counter rotation is the most important thing here. I'm not saying I can do any of this, but I can tell that everything makes intuitive sense to me except for the counter rotate. So that's a great thing for me to keep in mind. Great tip I would not have picked up on otherwise.

    • @FlowSkate
      @FlowSkate  7 лет назад

      For me, the counter-rotation is key. When we slide our momentum continues but we switch our bodies so the wheels are no longer rolling in the direction of our momentum. This requires a force to help push the wheels. I find that the counter-rotation is a great way to generate a strong push into the slide.
      I hope this makes sense.

      Shop Task It's pretty intimidating. Totally different balance and feeling sliding across something. Busted my arse more the past 2 weeks than I have in the past 8 months lol. But I'm 2 weeks in and starting to lock in some of the basic grinds. Makio, Sole grind, front side grind. Working on these atm because they seem to be pretty basic grinds that can set up more advanced ones as I progress. Basically a long winded I'm loving it haha.

    • @FlowSkate
      @FlowSkate  7 лет назад +3

      That is awesome. Aggressive skating will definitely toughen up your ass, shins, wrists...basically your whole body. The feeling of locking a nice frontside or soul grind is a thing of beauty.

    • @lazydaze3134

      Shop Task Dunno if ya care but I'm the lone skater in my town nobody to talk skate with lol. After a month of practicing grinds I finally started to hit royales. So now I have 4 grinds to practice. Royale, Sole grind, Frontside, makio. The royale is definitely the hardest for me. If you don't have your weight absolutely perfect you're going flying lol.

    • @FlowSkate

    Hello, Ive just bought a couple of rollerblades to learn to skate with my son Who is 5 years old, Im trying to catch up with him but he is way more aggresive and fearless. Trying to folllow him ive bruised myself pretty badly but I keep practicing for a full three days now and I feel more confident. I have protection for my articulacions but not for my hips, thats why I bought a Tortoise pad for that área, just waiting for it to arrive. Just wanted to tell you that watching your videos is really helpful, I pay attention to the body positioning you recommend and to your tips for beginners also. Thanks for the tutorials and the great way of explaining Everything. One question though, those hydrogen wheels really worth the price? The wizard skates could be used by a beginner like me?

    backwards entry to magic slide
    go backwards and turn your head against your natural resting stance while backwards(Right for me)
    next let your body follow the head (think of an door hinge, left foot is pivot and right leg steps to the right //////acts as an next pivot once placed to ground)
    next forcing the slide
    by now your left leg is trailing behind your torso
    so we pivot from right leg and make an half lemon with left leg
    this way the left leg being door-end and right leg is the pivot your momentum guides you trough to an perfect magic slide at low to medium speed
    this works with no conscious adjustments in ankle or hip .

    Hey there! 🎥 First of all, thanks for the great video! 👍 I really enjoyed it. However, I've noticed that when I try to do the magic slide, it automatically becomes a power slide. 😕 Can you please help me out and let me know what the problem might be

      Rotate them every week or so if you are skating on a daily basis. Don't let one side get too much wear or let the front wheels become excessively smaller than the rears.

    What kind of wheels do I need for doing especially power slides? My wheels 84mm 80A get eaten very quickly when doing slides!

    Few questions for you:
    - What wheel hardness do you recommend for this?
    - What foot do you prefer having forward? In this video you use your right. Is it easier to have your dominant foot up front?
    - Is this easier than the power stop or parallel stop? (I just wanna make sure I'm learning them in the right order of difficulty)

      You're probably no longer looking for answers, but someone might find it useful. :)
      - Harder wheels are easier to start the slide with, but have less friction, so you'll stop slower and have less control over the slide. It's probably easier to learn with harder wheels.
      - I think having the foot that you're normally using for T-stops in the back will feel more natural.
      - Powerslide is easier, parallel stop is a bit more difficult I think.
