- This time of year in New York City, I get less sweaty skating somewhere than I do taking the subway.
In this video, I try to make back-to-back meetings on different sides of town. Wish me luck, and I apologize for the iffy Audio. I messed up again and had issues with my external mic. I wish I could say it won't happen again, but it definitely will.

Going to a meeting already dressed up in warm weather with a backpack ? I would sweat through every piece of the clothing with massive wolrd map on my back from the backpack presenting myself in the most sweaty and disgusting way 😅

He can more than keep up with NYC traffic while overall exerting himself at the level of a normal walk. Traffic in the central core of any big city only averages ~10 mph when time spent waiting at intersections is taken into account. So he can be sweating as much as he would by just walking while continuously getting the cooling/drying benefit of a 10+ mph breeze. (We mostly only see the parts where he’s exerting himself. The stretches when he’s almost effortlessly cruising are edited out of his vids, because they’re boring.)
Some additional wrinkles. The biomechanics of skating = kicking your leg out to the side = ventilation “downstairs.” When coasting, hands on hips = ventilated pits. Sweaty backpack seems to be a much bigger problem for some than others; there are products on the market that aim to drastically improve ventilation there, but I haven’t tried any of them personally.

Main issue with skates commuting at least for me is once you get to your destination and stop - air cooling stops as well and you become drenched in sweat. I doubt its a good condition to be in during any sort of meeting
imagine how nicer NY could be if half the people driving would switch to bikes or other transportation methods, maybe even skating.
Nobody says nothing about bicyclist or moped riders in the city. But if you are skilled enough on roller blades to commute and properly navigate through traffic you suddenly become a rare attraction where your skill is translated as “being a danger on the road” 🙄 Instead of condemning this, his ability to safely skate in this environment should be applauded. This dude out ran a guy on a moped at light on skates, like that’s fucking crazy.
This is the kind of urban skating we want to see!!! You really be swervin through the traffic!

Same thing at roller rinks too! Some people seem to be really entitled about speed skating when like…if you can’t skate fast without staying out of peoples’ way, you’re not good enough to be skating fast around people.
Meanwhile I do love a nice little moment of having something to prove on a set of skates!

Skating on public roads is really really extreme!
I just can't see how you aren't a danger. Other road users can't be expecting you to come flying between tight spaces at that speed. It must make people frigging jump when you go flying past.

I wish I could get back into inline skates, but I have a size US16 shoe which makes it very hard to find quality ones. I loved it growing up in the 90s.
As someone who got back into it and did it as a kid in the 90’s; believe me when I say the online skates they have out now are nothing like the chunky ones from back then. They have way more fashionable lines of skates now from different brands. THEM 909s are even sold on luxury fashion websites as if they’re clothes!!🤯

That guy on the "bike" was an absolute dick. At the end of the day, you're a road user, and should be treated as such. Would he have done the same to someone in a car or on a proper motorbike? No. Clearly some other issues on that person's narrow mind.

Just stumbled upon this channel, and I'm curious how he's shooting the videos. I can see the shadow of a pole extending to the camera, but you can't see it in the image. The only thing I can figure is it's being erased digitally.
Its a 360 camera. It automatically edits out the pole from the video (not the shadow though)
