I have decided to not spend so much money on take out food - it was costing me at least $100 per week - and to start making my own meals at home.
I was surprised at how overwhelmed I was by this!
I think every one of your tips will be helpful, and have already started being kinder to myself
Thanks for making this video.

Oh what a lovely message- thank you so much and I love that you're being a bit kinder to yourself. In this world, everything seems to be a race to perfection sometimes and I'm determined to keep my kitchen a happier more accepting place. I hope yours will be too.
I find that preparing a shopping list as you notice items running low, rather than doing a check before you shop helps.
Good idea
You are my new therapist.😄
Oh you are too nice for words Christine! Hope you are well :)
Just received my instapot duo. Horrified at the lack of information. Have had to engage my brain for heavens sake 😅. Glad I’ve found your site. I’ll be learning fast as I can. So far I’ve pressure cooked some water and heated up some naan bread on the bake function Woohoo! Always been very wary of pressure cookers but decided to get brave. I’m only 75 so time I tried something new😂😂
I love this ! Thanks for making me laugh out loud Sue😊. Yes the instructions are a bit useless. I grew up with my dad regularly heaving a huge manual pressure cooker out of our touring caravan and letting the steam out while burning the grass and scaring passing walkers, so I know exactly that fear. Rest assured, they've come a long way since then! My advice would be to start simple and keep that sense of humour when something goes pear shaped. If there's anything you think I might be able to help with let me know. I'm trying to work on something especially to help new to pressure cooker people - one day I'll get there!
This was just the thing. Thank you!❤
thank you. we need all the help we can get in these tough times
Happy New Year!
You and I are at opposite ends of the organisation spectrum. Living on my own, I'm more of a "What do I fancy?" person. - The nearest I get to planning is occasionally consulting the Use-by list that's sellotaped to my fridge door!
I mostly shop on impulse, buying for quality not price, and if I change my mind or can't be bothered to cook there's always the 'vacuum sealer and freezer' option.
The oven ready pheasant which I bought for Christmas dinner is roosting happily in the freezer as I write, vacuum sealed against any possible freezer burn, and as it's quite small it won't take long to thaw if I suddenly fancy it. In fact I could probably IP it from frozen. Use my meat thermometer to check that it's properly cooked, then eat it with my fingers while I watch that Cooking and Calm channel on my big telly!
PS. Both Lidl and Tesco are selling some of their 'Best' paté in miniature Kilner jars at the moment. Ideal for storing small quantities of stuff, and cheaper than you could buy the empty jars on Amazon, so you're getting the paté for free.
Supper last night was Tesco ham hock with piccalilli, thickly spread on slices of toasted fruit loaf. Very yummy!!
Happy new year Nigel! Oh that sounds like the good life and no need to plan when life is in a less frantic season. That's a great tip on the jars - I'm a big fan of mason/kilner etc as they can be frozen too and sounds like a real money-saver.
What fantastic ideas. Starting 2023 with great tips. Thank you so much. Wishing you & your family a happy & healthy 2023! Be well.
Thank you Millie. Happy New Year to you and yours and thank you for all of your support
You are so calming! Thank you so much for these wonderful ideas. I have started using the Paprika app and your videos are so helpful. God bless you for taking the time to inspire us all ❤️
You are so welcome Laurie. What a lovely message. Thank you so much for taking the time to cheer up my evening.
Do you have a home made bread recipe for instant duo?
Hi Magaret, I'm sorry but I don't. We use a bread machine mostly (or sourdough in the main oven) Hopefully someone else might be able to help
@@CookingandCalm I made bread today. I don't have the yogurt function but proved it with the sous vide the baked it in the oven. It was nice.
Ah that's great Magaret. You inspired me, and I've proved some yeasted flat(ish)breads in my Ultimate today but the 'blower' of the fan is quite strong on the prove setting. I've had to fashion a shower cap on there. I might try it on sous vide next time. What did you use to hold the dough and stop it drying it out? Thanks for sharing your experiences
