  • May 29, 2002, was another one of those cold, damp, spring days in Northern Michigan. Overcast, rainy, cool. Nothing out of the ordinary except for one factor. That was the day our 19-year-old son, Jonathan, died. What do you do when your child dies? How do you respond? They don’t prepare you for this when you receive premarital counseling. The prenatal classes don’t prepare you. How do you handle it?

My son, Jonathan Matthew Wion, was killed 2-10-17. It hurts every day. Jonathan was 29 when he was killed. I miss him so much and it feels like everyone has forgotten all about him. He knew Jesus and was a very talented musician and was on worship team. He even played with Cheap Trick in Las Vegas. I wonder if you can lose your salvation. I want to go join him. NOW.

Having just lost my dear brother, Koko, to cancer in the summer, then two months later my dad, this was very, very personal. I see in my sweet mother how deep the pain of losing a child is. She’s 80, her loyal and very dear son was 58. You have testified of how such pain and complete surrender to God’s always good and wise sovereignty can coexist. I’m sure over time, the latter will lessen the severity of the former until that glorious Day, like you mentioned, the pain and tears will be completely wiped and gone and turn into unspeakable joy.
I thought of Tim Challies as you were speaking. I’m very sorry for your loss...! Thank you for being a shining example, through GOD’s grace, on how to deal with such tragedy. GOD bless you!

Thank You Lord for You gave Strength and Comfort to brother Jeff and his family in ways that Only You know and Only You can!!! Hallelujah. Amen.
Thank you so much brother Jeff for your precious sharing! Yes, ‘no suffering is wasted! ‘, as Elizabeth Elliot said it. Lord is SOOO GOOD that He always uses our deepest and greatest pains to make people around us see His Mercy in our lives and also through His Grace, He gave us His people for us in our lives to walk the darkest times with us! Praise God.
I lost my Precious Princess Tumbles on 2/2/22 and you are right! I would plunge into deep sorrow and just cried uncontrollably suddenly at the dining table, when I sleep, whenever I thought of her. This week alone, I cried twice!!! Yes you are so right! Lord is with us when we cry and every tear we shed is never wasted and is never not noticed by Lord. Thank you for your insightful revelation that I shall not focus on seeing her in heaven but it is ALL about me seeing Jesus, my Faithful Lord, my Sovereign God, my Beautiful Saviour and my Wonderful Redeemer!
Because our Good Lord lives, we can see tomorrow and we can face ALL trials in our lives because He is our God and ONLY He will and He can see us through, be it good or bad , until we see Him face to face. Hallelujah. Amen

This was beautiful. And I will add that it takes courage to keep on the narrow path. Follow the light, rely on the given lamp for our feet. Remember that the glory of God is greater than our best dreams. For my son died recently by suicide. He suffered from mental health and decided that he was to great a burden for his family. Desolation. He had not found the comfort Jesus could give him to continue with the intensity of his suffering.
So I imagined for my own comfort his dwelling in the beauty and glory of eternity. And I imagined that I would know that he was there.
    But will I be there?
    Will I be there?
Thank you fir bringing us to the ultimate question and may Peace continue to inhabit your questions. Even the useless ones!

    Mark Chapter 15
1 And straightaway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.
3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.
4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.
5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marveled.
6 Not at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.
7 And they was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.
8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.
9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.
11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?
13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.
14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
17 And they clothed him with purple, and planted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshiped him.
20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
22 And they bring him unto the place called Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, What every man should take.
25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, The king of the Jews.
27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.
28 And the scripture was fulfilled, Which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.
29 And they passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.
31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.
33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.
36 And one ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.
37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.
39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
    40 There were also women looking afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41(Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath.
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honorable counselor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
44 And Pilate marveled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulcher which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulcher.
47 And Mary Magdalene And Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

There is nothing wrong to want to see those again who passed away already 1 thessalonians 4 13-14. If his Son was believer then he is in heaven, i don't know why he is not sure.

@@samcomfort1174 As the speaker - and the father who still cries when visiting Jon's grave as we did recently when in Michigan - here, please allow me to comment. As we know from passages such as Matthew 7:21-23, not everyone who "believes" will be welcomed into heaven. Jesus told those men in that passage that they were "workers of lawlessness" (or "workers of iniquity") and says He never knew them. Jon's life was one of much lawlessness in the few years prior to his death. Hebrews tells us there is the holiness that we are to strive for and without it, no man shall see the Lord.
Of course, I would like to have a degree of assurance that Jon is resting in the realities of being with Christ now. But I have to honest based upon what Scripture says and his life did not give us assurance then, almost twenty years ago, nor today. Paul did not say it was his desire to depart and be with Stephen, nor Moses, nor Elijah, but to be with Christ. Such is my desire and the desire of my wife. Tears are still shed to this day over Jon's death. The biblical reality is that a regenerate life has a certain look to it - and Jon's didn't. Am I saying he's in hell? I'm saying I don't know.
We have five surviving children and sixteen grandchildren as I write. Do I desire assurance that all of them are saved? Absolutely. My first concern, though is that I myself get to the end and finish the race well.
Am I saying, or even hinting that justification is by works? Absolutely not. But the faith that justifies results in a life which desires to serve God and love God and obey His commandments. James writes about that in James 2, doesn't he? A man who has been justified by faith alone apart from works, which is the teaching of Scripture, will also have a life that shows the fruit of that justification as shown in places like Ephesians 2:10. Romans 2 also speaks to that issue in verses five through eleven as Paul writes about the basis upon which men will be judged on the last Day, even as he is setting up his detailed teaching on justification by faith alone a little later in Romans.
I just can't let my love for Jon override the teaching of Scripture. Thanks.

@@jeffgccsatx Matthew 7 21-23 is not teaching that belief is not enough like many wrongly believe...those people were trusting
In their works to get to heaven (brought up their works of righteousness) and that's not the way there, to be saved we have to do the will of the father and that's to believe (fully trust) in Jesus' sacrifice
John 6 40. Romans 10 says "with the heart man believes unto righteousness" not single work needed romans 4:5. To be worker of lawlesness you don't need to be extremely bad and wicked, ONE sin makes you guilty James 2 10.
So if your Son trusted Christ as his Savior and called upon his name he is in heaven. God bless.

What i forgot to say is that salvation is not a "race" it's a gift, but sanctification is lifetime process.

I feel horrible for what you have/still going through. To be honest though I have this nagging feeling that your answer to whether or not a loved one is in heaven or hell is sufficient. Removing the focus from the child to the parent just doesn’t seem right. A parent would still want to know where their child is. It will be a question that will be mentally burned into them for the rest of their lives. Focusing on one’s own salvation isn’t enough to quell the heartache and concern for a son/daughter’s eternal destination. Parents need a real answer to a very real question.

So, why God is going to make a new heaven and new earth?
If everyone goes to heaven then who is going to be on earth?

You asked God to "break you" by taking your child?!! This makes no sense.

      @illbehonest  2 года назад

Let me clarify: Jeff had prayed for the Lord to break and grow him, not knowing part of what God would use to do such would be the taking of his child. Do you see the difference? It would indeed be unbiblical to pray, "Lord break me by taking my child." But it is right for us to want to grow in the Lord, no matter the cost. I would encourage you to hear this song on this topic: ruclips.net/video/YCxrROZPCKw/видео.html

Plenty other ways to be "broken". Loss of a child is a horrible experience that is a lifelong pain and should never come to that be ut ending someone's life so prematurely.

@@IWearACrown Well, we are cast upon the Lord for what God allows and brings in our lives. We cannot pick and chose what we lose in order to grow and be more like Christ. In Job it shows us how he lost all of his children in one day and his response was to say "Blessed by the name of the Lord who gives and takes away" and we too need that mindset, a mindset of trusting the Lord.

So you are saying the lord will take your child as a form of punishment in order for one to acknowledge him?

@@IWearACrown Job lost almost everything and it was no "punishment", it was a trial that he endured through and the believer's faith is tried in trials. Are there times that people losing things is severe discipline because of them remaining in sin? Yes. In 2 Samuel King David's child died because of his adultery. Or I think about Psalm 39:11 When you discipline a man with rebukes for sin, you consume like a moth what is dear to him; surely all mankind is a mere breath! Selah
