its been 46 years since this song came out. I never get tired of it. Its so hypnotic.
I'm still blown away at how great this album is being a debut album.
Actually it was November 1972 making it a frightening 48 years since it came out
48??!!! Dang, am I getting old! I totally agree, the song is a cult classic, I've heard it three, four times bumper to bumper, the story of the song is great and the music with the voice oversampling makes it one of the greatest songs Don and Michael had recorded. Long live Steely Dan!!
Hypnotic...................................the perfect word. It is indeed. Spellbinding.
The whole album is timeless magic
You can’t go wrong with Steely Dan! They are the best combination of genius, talent and perfectionism.
It's nice to see the younger generation listen to older melodies and appreciate them. I bought this album as a teenager back in 1975 which makes me err..not young.
Steely Dan is God's way of saying he loves you and wants you to be happy...
wow... that is an accurate statement for sure
Right! God played it for all his slaves to work by! Nice guy!
And its so cool this chick enjoys it in 2021
That's what I'm going to tell people from now on.
Whenever a reactor starts singing along to a song she's never heard, you know how good the song is. Keep doing the Dan Scribe, you won't be sorry.
This song is about vices: violence, sex and gambling and how people keep doing the things again even though they know those addiction will hurt them.
Freud called it, Repetition Compulsion.
@@brainsareus You can say that again...
It's known as "the human condition."
Thanks man. I've heard this song hundreds of times and although I LOVE the music, I've never had a clue what they were singing about. Makes sense now.
Wheel turning must be wheel of time. Or just the wheel great invention, need wheels to go somewhere
It’s easy to be spoiled by Steely Dan, their music could be described as a rich, complex, generous , big old healthy slice of halcyon Americana.
Ah, the Steely Dan rabbit hole. Nice to see you down here! I’ve been down here since 1973. Welcome!
First song, First side, First album. Legendary beginning of Steely Dan. Sweet reaction.
One of the greatest songs ever created...by anyone!!!
This song always sounds like it's just popped out of the oven. So fresh! I knew watching her listen to this song would have her bust out that face. What face? *That face*. There are only two places to see it. One of them is with awesome music.
"Hey Nineteen" Steely Dan, your favorite band's favorite band
The whole album is great. Their debut album.
Those guys were great musicians, and they had something to say too.
It’s an electric sitar played by Denny Dias
And Donald Fagen on a Yamaha cp30 combo organ. Best. Leo.
thk ! I never knew who did this great solo...and it's been a fav thing to learn for forty years.
Steely Dan is your favorite band’s favorite band.
Everytime I hear Steely Dan I have to plug in my bass. They always have that groove.
That part it really hits
Steely Dan’s staple form is the ballad, rock and roll storytelling with the most awesome instrumental flourishes you ever heard
The solo is an electric sitar. I dont know anything about the instrument other than what I hear in this song, but I have to think he's playing it really well. One of my favorite "guitar" solos ever.
This woman knows her music 🤩
They say Steely Dan is the "Musician's Band"...they are that good! So many epic songs!
One of my top 10 favorite songs of all time! Nothing like cruising down the boulevard with the windows down, stereo cranking out this song at top volume!
My hubby and I love the idea that you are reaching out to educate and familiarize yourself on the older stuff and different genres. This is wonderful! It will enhance you as a musician and songwriter.
I remember listening to this on the quadraphonic system I bought in Vietnam. Those triangles seemed to go right through my head. Lying there in a bean bag chair, having survived the war, it was probably the happiest time of my life.
a whole generation grew up playing this song on Guitar Hero
This song definitely has a great groove.
This is one of those songs that just makes you vibe and jam, no matter if you like it or not. Awesome reaction!
Scribe, nice reaction. Their "Deacon Blues" "Kid Charlemagne" and "FM" are next for you. Steely Dan = very cool music.
I've always loved "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", but few people ever request it for some reason, so I must be in the minority.
@@centuryrox Andy & Alex, Jamel_AKA_Jamal, India Reacts, and JayveeTV have reacted to "Rikki..." on youtube
Kid Charlemange
Deacon blues my favorite Steely Dan song.
@@centuryrox You're right - great song!
Listened to this song cruisin the boulevard on cool summer nights! 💕🎼🎸✌️
"Deacon Blues", "Hey Nineteen", "FM" - The "Smoothest Music of the 70s
First rock album I owned (after 2 Carlin albums) was Can't buy a thrill. I always loved Steely Dan, but it's only been recently that I've truly come to appreciate them now that I see how much a new generation appreciates their talent.
Timeless. Great reaction.👏🏻💯
I consider Donald Fagan one of the most unique songwriters in the business. He doesn't comply with common chords and melodies. Two perfect examples are Steely Dan's "Haitian Divorce" and his solo piece "Century's End" from the movie "Bright Lights, Big City." I highly recommend both. You won't regret it. 🎶
The second solo is on a Stylophone. It was a primitive toy synthesiser popularised by Rolf Harris.
The song always reminds me of summer in Las Vegas in the 70's...
One of my favourite grooves and guitar solo in music. That was Denny Dias on an electric sitar. I recommend, "Kid Charlemagne" next. Great reaction!
Steely Dan was my era and they were always on radio...just always.
But until the reaction folks have gotten into them, I forget how freakin awesome they were.
RIP Walter.
One of ten best of the 70s
Definitely blazed their own trail in the 70's and 80's. Made it thru the hard rock era and came out the other end with a basket full of hits. Mega talented group.
Love your ear! you hear everything and memorize it! This is a classic.
Steely Dan is so underrated and appreciated.
Excellent observation on the doubled lead vocal .. you’re spot on. It’s a double not a harmony
99% of the people commenting telling you what to listen to have no F’n clue
Your sophistication in music is light years ahead of the mass majority
Awesome stuff 👍🏻
Keep doing you and don’t let any of the jokers on the Internet twist it on you.
You’re the only “reaction” channel I even listen to. A lot of junk out there
But honestly, I blame the audience mostly
They hold likes and subscriptions as hostage. Therefore they unwittingly have forced these channels and content makers to cater to their shallow frail personalities for fear they won’t get their precious likes and their RUclips search algorithm will suffer as will their monitization (which is peanuts anyway, but the masses are mostly oblivious).
The long and short is if they don’t cater to the mass opinion, god forbid they come out and say they don’t like a song, they fear the dislikes or cancellation of subscription
What do you mean you don’t like jimmy page or you don’t like stairway to heaven ? That’s blasphemy
Wayne’s World and Rob Lowe would be appreciative though
It’s a goddamn joke
Great job ..... bunch of baffoons.
I’m out
Best Scribe reaction of all time she is totally in the zone! Fire!
Steely Dan , "Midnight Cruiser"
great lyrics, their best!.
Awesome reaction as always!!
6:30 Nailed it, that was the guitar transitioning to the organ...so awesome...
Very cool that you understand and appreciate the production as well as the song.
Steely Dan was one of the best at both.
Girl, it’s amazing how you can pick up so much on a first listen! I can tell not only are you a musician, but a writer and producer as well. I see you! Come get that ear you have!!
A little Rock Jazz fusion to hit the good nerves from The legendary Steely Dan... Awesome. 🎸
I love listening to music with you! As Kool and the gang say: "Sophisticated mama!" -that's you!
Perfection, you can't help stop moving on this one.
The "guitar-like" instrument is an electric sitar. I think Denny Diaz was the soloist for this song.
I miss music you can trip on without having to really trip on to enjoy!
Next Steely Dan selections "Kid Charlamagne " "Deacon Blues " "FM"
Was not Was "Spy in the House of Love " Terence Trent D'arby "Sign your name " Taste of Honey "Boogie Oogie " Amy Winehouse "Rehab " brooks and Dunn " My Maria " Curtis Mayfield { Superfly } ZZ top "Gotsta get Paid "
Gorgeous young lady doing Steely Dan reaction vids. What could be better😊
Your reactions are just getting better and better as is your taste :)
Love your appreciation of music. Best of luck to you!!
Love your passion! You are adorable!
Wow..what a track. So much soul
Steely Dan, 1970s class act....for real! Tons of proper recordings....get to it, enjoy for real again.......bass note to 5th then octave, yea, oh yea...2nds 3rds 6ths...maybe 7ths
I’ve been listening to SDs music for almost 50 Years! I still can’t really understand their lyrics but I’ll ALWAYS LOVE their Music!! Fagan and Becker are Priceless :) Thanks for Reacting to SD...
Deeper song than it sounds...these guys fought it all. That album behind you is one of the best from first to last ever...Such a consistent band...tight all the time. They could have had 3 greatest hits albums really.
I love your long tresses. You rock.
I think I've mentioned this before on one of your other reactions, but I really appreciate how you let yourself get absorbed in the feel and groove of a song. That's how anyone should do it on a first listen, unlike other reactors, who feel compelled to stop frequently to do a deep analysis of the lyrics. That can be done on subsequent listenings.
You observe that the song is mixed beautifully. I observe that something else in the video is mixed beautifully 😉 🤪
My favorite band as well as Grateful Dead
A great song from a great lp with lots of stories and great musicians. Very mature debut.
“West of Hollywood” has an extended sax solo that you’ll love. Please check it out. It’s from the “Two Against Nature” album released in 2000. That album won 4 Grammy awards.
Always enjoy watching you
Classic song😁 time out of mind is a great track you could check out next by them
What a smoooooth vibe
Finally after 30 years, someone who likes this album !!! i’m over the moon!!
MILLIONS love this album, what are you talking about???
Aja, The whole album !
Agreed, got them all on CD's and Spotify, Steely Dan rocks.
Awesome Scribe🌷《☆》Denny Diaz did the solo on an electric sitar in this version🤓👍🏾The live version on [The Midnight Special] tv show he played the solo on a Fender Telecaster & it's worth checking out dear :*: Greetings from⛾Florida🤳my friend🤓🗣🔊☮✌👍🏾
Love that Coral Guitar solo
"Josie"
Man, We was raised on some of the most amazing music back then...
My favorite band. Ever.
2 people in Steely Dan on most studio CD's = Donald Fagen - lead vocals, all keyboards, primary songwriter ; Walter Becker - guiatar, bass etc, backing vocals...simply amazing!!
I bought it for the album cover, I kept it for the music.
I saw this video compilation on RUclips.of ( Steely Dan )" Do it again"
And Michael Jackson " Billie Jean" switching back and forth to the same basic musical groove.
I dunno, I was amused by it.
The one Band I can simply listen to on a loop …. 🎶
you grooved to this, yow!!
.
Girl, you are KILLING Me ..( I hear this song .. I now go "see" my wife)
.
Best sitar solo ever.....
70s jam was so good. mothing can top it today
Also, this band was named after a metal dildo that was described and I really weird artistic novel by William S. Borroughs who is actually from my hometown.
Lots of good SD songs to react to: (also from Can't Buy a Thrill): "Dirty Work," "Midnight Cruiser," "Brooklyn Knows the Charmer Under Me," (from Countdown to Ecstacy): "Bodhisattva," "My Old School," "Razor Boy," "Your Gold Teeth," (from Pretzel Logic): "Pretzel Logic," "Night by Night," "Rikki, Don't Lose that Number," "Any Major Dude Will Tell You," (from Katy Lied): "Black Friday," "Chain Lightning," "Doctor Wu," "Daddy Don't Live in that New York City No More," "Rose Darling," (from the Royal Scam): "Kid Charlemagne," "Caves of Altamira," "the Fez," "Don't Take Me Alive," "Green Earrings," (also from Aja): "Deacon Blue," "Home at Last," {from Gold): "FM," "Here at the Western World," (from the Wall Street movie soundtrack): "the Bear," (from Gaucho): "Babylon Sisters," "Hey Nineteen," "Time Out of Mind," "Gaucho," "Glamour Profession," (from Two Against Nature): "Almost Gothic," "Cousin Dupree," "Negative Girl," (from Everything Must Go): "The Things I Miss the Most," "Blues Beach," "Green Book," and "Slang of Ages." Start anywhere; there's always more!
Hot jam. Great reaction to the tunes of my teens. Thank you allowing me to feel that old school groove. It’s beautiful music 🎶
The first solo was an electric sitar.
I love this song.. .so good!!!!
Spot on girl.
I really enjoy how you find your way inside of the music. Id play this at my next rent party!
Night by Night if you want some stanky Steely Dan funk for your ears
Fun fact, Donald Fagan the lead singer had massive stage fright a rarely, if ever preformed live.
"Fire in the Hole" off the same album, Can't Buy A Thrill. Was fortunate to see them live @ The Allen Theater, CLE. 1975. Opening act was Montrose.
This cat can sing!
When you have time, please check out Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett. Once upon a time, GENESIS had their MAGIC that spread the entire world. When both Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett left the band, the MAGIC was no more. Please check it out.
I was a kid back in their heyday and liked them. But too young to understand the meaning of their lyrics. Wish I had taken notes for life lessons later on 🤣
This is a big song.............................................................it carries a lotta water.
I was born in 1967. We had awesome music I grew up with!! Love it.
