Just heads up...Most of Steely Dan's song were written/produced by Becker & Fagen. It also helps when your studio musicians were some of the Top Dogs in the business!
You're speaking highly of my favorite band. They had such a distinctive sound that is just as catchy today as when I was a young pup. With that being said I have to go for a walky.
You've obviously got a good ear for good music, and without prejudice towards age of the music or fashion. If it sounds good, it's good. I know I'm an old codger at 61, but please do your best to educate younger people like yourself. There's a treasure trove out there and even I haven't heard it all yet.
Steely Dan' is infamous for being engineering sticklers- they would do 30 or 40 takes with top session players to get just the right sound for different instruments and then take days to mix the final recording
@@misterbonzoid5623 got to keep it going another band hit can knock you down the charts, need the next hit to send up the charts . So bring your A game. Spend money to make money
I was a kid back in their heyday & liked them OK at the time, but didn't "get" them. My dad was a huge fan and had all their albums and wore them out. 😆 Now that I'm old I really appreciate them, and not just for nostalgic reasons.
Donald Fagen and Walter Becker are Steely Dan, just guys. Everyone else are hired session musicians. Steely Dan were perfectionists, especially Donald, in the studio.
I never really appreciated the lyrics to this song until I was around 30. Those lyrics are so real.... at age 52....they are me! I'm just thankful that another young person gets the message in time! Keep doing what you do. This old white guy on the East Coast loves the hell out of you.
One of the best bands ever. Basically 2 jazz musicians that could write pop songs.Their mix and engineering is impeccable. They always used session players that could give them exactly what they wanted.
I'm a 64 year old Navy Submarine Veteran that grew up with this music, to watch you immerse yourself in this music gives me hope in our young American youth
The musicianship and compositional skills of so many of the bands from this era are so tight. And yet they all have this ease to them. I grew up in the midwest, listening to this stuff. Really set the flavor of the times back then. I moved to L.A. 20 years ago, and so have some feeling for what the culture of your young years were like. Such a different world. Just fascinating and cool. Seeing you connect to that then and there in this, your here and now, is reassuring somehow. Thanks. Keep on keepin' on.
That guitar solo is so iconic and so memorable that even though I was like 9 when I first heard it, now at 57 I can pick up my guitar and play it flawlessness! Genius solo
@ScribeCash Enjoying you enjoying Steely Dan. I'd like to point out that both this track and Do It Again are from the same album (Can't buy A Thrill) which is the debut album from Steely Dan. They set a really high bar with this album and maintained or exceeded that standard with the albums that followed. Pick any of their albums, any track and you'll find gold.
You do this great music justice..you should check out the seminal live album "Strangers in the Night" by the great rockers UFO. You'll find many great tunes there you will appreciate
That's the legendary Elliot Randall on guitar here for the studio version. When the band played live, the guitar parts were taken over by Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and Denny Dias...
Awwwe Man... Steely Dan. This old tune takes me back to those days in my Sophomore year. " Riki Dont Lose That Number." And " Dont Take Me Alive." Are also great tunes. Steely Dan was more of a studio band and rarely toured. They have so many great tunes Its almost impossible to say which one is their best. On the other hand " Babylon Sister's." Is another, more lay back kinda tune. These guys were so versatile and ohhh so talented, their music was considered the gold standard of 70s lite rock.
Please check out “kid charlemagne “ by steely dan . Great song that you have probably heard other songs that were sampled from it . Thanks , love your reaction videos😀
I have always loved Steely Dan. I've seen them in concert many times through the years. I loved your reaction to this track. It's one of my favorites by them. They would kill this track live. I just wanted to suggest some artists for you to checkout and hopefully react to. STING - BE STILL MY BEATING HEART" DANGER MOUSE, DANIELE LUPPI (FT. NORAH JONES) - "SEASON'S TREES" TEARS FOR FEARS - "ADVICE FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART" JOURNEY - "THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT" TOTO - "GEORGY PORGY" GEORGE MICHAEL & MARY J. BLIGE - "AS" HOLE - "MALIBU" I look forward to seeing if you give these artists and tracks a chance. I look forward to seeing your reaction to some or all of them I'm sure it will be something. Continued success.
“ Do it Again” and “FM” will get you.Perfect voices and instruments.Hard to believe this album is almost 50 years old.I appreciate your reactions so much.
Love how you can endure guitar solos and this song has some of the greatest. I understand they may be hard to appreciate if they're not your thing (as they are mine!). Great reaction and congrats on the new album!
For someone coming from an R&B perspective, there's a lot to catch on to with Steely Dan, and easier to appreciate, as they have big jazz and R&B elements in their music.
Hi “Scribe” you really should do Brooklyn by Steely Dan You are so beautiful btw i would love to have a listening party with you i really got into steely dan in 1989 especially this album just seeing your youthful enthusiasm lights me up thanks so much for doing this

Steely Dan is unique and iconic...a true original! This is very early Steely Dan. Definitely check out Deacon Blues or Josie from their Aja album from the late 70s!!!

Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Journey were as well.
People like their music and others don’t but almost everyone can agree that their music was the best produced and engineered music in maybe forever. 🔥
