This was very early Steely Dan, but ALL their music is amazing! Steely Dan is a deep rabbit hole, but worth every minute you spend reacting to them. They're their own genre, and so many great tunes like "Time Out Of Mind", "Black Cow", "Pretzel Logic", "Peg" ... they're ALL great! Keep going with them! Thanks for this great reaction MD! ✌💙✌

I was playing Reelin' In The Years driving up the motorway (freeway) this morning! All their songs have a strong groove and vibe. The lead singer (Donald Fagen) and the bass guitarist (Walter Becker) are the only constant members of the band over their career. Mostly they brought is session musicians to play on their compositions. The example here is the lead guitarist Elliott Randall. It has reportedly been rated by Jimmy Page as his favourite solo of all time and he scored it 12/10. Next, I request "Do It Again" from the same debut album.

There are quite a few rappers that have sampled Steely Dans songs such as Kanye West and De La Soul Steely Dan songs are always unique and masterfully written with clever cryptic lyrics , beautifully composed and played by the very best musicians .They also fuse jazz, rock and blues with other genres in their music like no other band .One of the top bands of the 70s in my opinion

Becker and Fagen were strongly influenced by jazz growing up and they incorporate it into their music. Their music is their own genre. They are unique. The lyrics are really secondary to the phenomenal instrumentals. I listened for decades before I I found out what some of their songs are about.

"Dirty Work" a track off the 'Can't buy a Thrill' debut album released back in 1972 by Steely Dan also received plenty of airplay back in the day. The song has a smooth vibe and flow. Love the instrumentals with the keyboard and sax in this number.🎤🎸🎹🎷🥁☮🎧

Great band! The two consistent members are Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. Check out "My Old School", "Dirty Work", "Any Major Dude Will Tell You", "Kid Charlemagne", "Bodhisattva" Man, I can't think of a song of theirs that I don't like!! Sometimes it's the music, sometimes it's the lyrics, sometimes both! "Any major dude with half a heart surely will tell you my friend. Any minor world that breaks apart falls together again". In "My Old School" there is a lyric that spoke to me personally. "Tried to warn you about Jeino and Daddy G" - my husband's name was Jeino and my Dad's name starts with a G. Hmmmm......

FYI: The had a yearly Residency every Oct in NYC at The Beacon Theater. They played a different Album every 2 or 3 nights 🤯 for a month! 😁 They sold 3, 5, 7 day passes/bundles. Id get a 3 day (AJA, Royal Scam & Greatest Hits Night) pass. 😒 Only way to get a 'GHN' ticket since they always sold out first. Saw the last show with Walter Becker (RIP) & the first Beacon shows after he passed. 🥰🐰
