- Oh my goodness, I have a new vocal crush. I've been impressed by Postmodern Jukebox in the past, but I had NO CLUE how much Haley Reinhart would steal my heart in this reimagined performance of Radiohead's original song, "Creep."
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Haley Reinhart featured with Postmodern Jukebox for the first time, covering "Creep" by Radiohead.

No idea who you are - but you are amazingly informed and articulate. ; )
Oh, and for all of you newbies... E. Z. is an opera singer - NOT an "internet influencer" - she has true talent.
Was this the version from the voice

@@mrbeezkeez1599 I could not find the story by Scott Bradlee! Do you have a link? :D
The amount of girl crush on your face, tho! It's gorgeous!
The first time I heard her sing really was like discovering a new color.
Love this thought. ... ... Can you describe that color? Fluffy nectarine spritz perhaps? :-D
@@TheCharismaticVoice Haley's natural rasp makes me think more Bourbon brown ;)
Soft velvety crimson and barely visible off-white highlights (low intensity value) slightly rumpled, with a medium width black velvety and smooth border with a pinstripe-thin light-blue outside backing border... it feels like those colors and that it might physically feel like that if I could touch sound. lol - I'm weird.
@@MandrakeDCR hmm, very interesting. Love your way of describing it
@@TheCharismaticVoice I'm getting the almost red-brown of Dr Pepper with lots of bubbles.
Haley Reinhart: "I wish I was special."
Us: um...imagine how the rest of us feel...
This comment got me in the feels...damn you J Woe
Makes me feel even less special but it's almost the point of the song.
Exactly...🤷🏻♂️
Haley Reinhart first for me very 👍 nice
She should have won American idol. Best voice in the competition hands down but that "reality " crap is nothing but a popularity contest with no real value other than introducing hailey to the world. She is pretty funny too, she is bill on f is for family.
Another fun fact about this, is that Haley was hesitant to record this as she had been singing all the week and thought her voice was too tired, but was convinced to at least try one take, and the rest, as they say, is history....over 100 million views and counting...
That explains exactly the bit of tired resignation in there. The sadness, the lamenting being conveyed.
how the hell do you know nobber
She's definitely talented beyond words, but let's not forget the pianist who wrote the whole sheets for all the instruments, the dude made a pop song sound like an instant jazz classic.
No doubt, the Postmodern Jukebox guys are all very talented musicians, and this was a very good arrangement/adaptation of the song. Honor where honor is due.
Agreed
He’s the founder of Post Modern. Composes most of their stuff, if not all.
@@tee4222 You are "what-abouting"
Stop it. The comment chain is about the transposition,
Creep is in no way a pop song.
Watching someone so genuinely nerding out in the most joyous way with such enthusiasm is absolutely magnificent
nerding out is an understatement. I would call it rather lezing out
@@saccamadiqeu2600It’s the wiggle with the voice. I would die to go to backstage 😉
I LOVE this, and I love Haley Reinhart. I'm an 87- year-old ex concert promoter who had the privilege of working with some great talent in the past, including the marvelous "Queen" of scat, Ella Fitzgerald. I loved your reaction and comments. You have become my favorite Reactor.
Bill Lathrop
I would give just about anything to work with Ella Fitzgerald!
My parents favorite concert was Ella when she performed in Berlin. It wasn't the '61 concert, but a later year, sometime between 63-69.
One cannot listen to this and doesn't fall in love with Haley.
I managed it.
I managed it just fine.
This is NOT my thing by any stretch of the imagination. I actually found her voice rather grating.
I highly recommend more of her work with PMJ.
@@glennmorganfan9411 what compelled you to stay for something you didn’t enjoy?
This song was the first time I heard Haley, bought all her music after that.
8:28 "Where else is she going to go with this?"
Audience: Cackles
After watching a few videos I swear it seems like The Charismatic Voice has synesthesia. She reacts to voices like she literally feels or tastes them. It's kinda wonderful how open her reactions are.
...and she's really cute ❤️
I agree... even after 2 years this is still my favorite reaction video... PERIOD. Elizabeth is so genuine. It is so much fun to watch.
I think it's some sort of involuntary sympathetic vocal chords contractions or something. Probably singers feel it more intensely and can explain it better, but even I, who is not a singer, feel how my vocal chords tighten and relax with the music when I hear a really really good singer as if her singing touches me on a very physical level. It's actually can get a bit tiresome after awhile, but also very exciting a lot of the times, but only when listening to very good singers that I really like and feel.
I have Hyper-empathy syndrome, and it's not fun, except in situations like this! I cry everytime I watch her reactions. She is just TOO sweet and caring not to love her.
Get you a girl that looks at you the way this woman just looked at Haley for 18 minutes straight.
We should be so lucky. She was enraptured by Haley's voice!
Pfft I look at Haley for more than 18 mins :)
You have to be someone who can sing like Haley for 18 minutes.
Is this the same girl that was on a western and then pitch perfect and now marvels Hawkeye? If so, she's talented in everything she does!
@@cherylperrone7097 - Ummm... no. I think you're mixing up at least two people, and possibly three.
Watching you fangirling over Haley just made my entire year. I think your reaction pretty much matched mine when I first heard this. Haley's voice to me is like honey poured over ripped silk. She has this insane ability to switch from Marilyn Monroe to Ella Fitzgerald and back again without even blinking. Loved this reaction. New subscriber now.
WOW, WOW, WOW!
Elizabeth, your facial expressions as you react to Haley’s first chorus of this hauntingly spectacular song are genuinely overwhelming to you. You seem to barely be able to process what you are hearing. I agree.
The first time I stumbled across Haley Reinhart I was so deeply moved by her voice. Hearing someone explain so well WHY I am deeply moved by her voice is just fantastic.
This! So much this.
Like i know this voice hits me in the gut in the most wonderful way.
It is incredibly satisfying to understand why. Plus seeing her reaction to it is just priceless.
Jill Bearup does similar for sword fighting scenes. Pretty sure we all enjoy Wesley and Inigo's big sword fight in the princes bride but having the nuance explained just makes it even better.
Your reaction to Hayley singing is a very close second to the performance itself. Thank you for sharing your unbridled joy with us.
Yes! Haley's a gem. You gotta do her PMJ cover of "Mad World" with Puddles Pity Party.
Edit: If you want to hear the most "sultry" Haley gets, PMJ's "Oops I Did it Again" cover fits the bill nicely.
yes, a required listen.
You'll still be afraid of clowns but it is so worth it.
Oh yes, and Puddles Lorde cover. God I forgot how good PMJ are.
Yes this one please

Normally I might say "I can only imagine what Elizabeth must have been like as a little girl..."
But I don't have to, she turns 5 every time she hears something she likes 🙂
Dec. 1, 2023..
I saw her last night in Senatobia Ms. at the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts. It is a small venue probably 300 people. Haley performed like we were at Madison Square Gardens. Her voice is magical and engaging, from holding ultra high bars to getting down with the gravely lows in that pure smokey and guttural way that she does. She is very easy on the eyes and her voice is exquisite. Everything about her is mesmerizing. She has come far since her American Idol days and I suspect she will exceed all expectations of others and even her own expectations as well.
Do you have a sense of her career trajectory and how she's doing as an artist? I'm just 'discovering' her recently and am really blown away by her confidence and presence.
She got cheated out of her American Idol season 10 win. Her versatility made her so much better than the other contestants.
Yes, but sometimes the "loss" is more valuable than the win. You get the exposure, but you get to walk away with a fan base, without the weight of the public's unrealistic expectations...or twisted desire to see the champion fail.
@@shamanic1 I agree. She probably wouldn't have gotten where she is now if she would have run. Not many idol winners went very far.
The fact that she didnt win just goes to show how pathetic the judges actually are and that those shows really arent about actual singing talent
Makes you question their judgement though.
Totally ripped off! The show fell of the radar after that... good!
When Elizabeth can't form words in a coherent sentence, you know the aw is real.
Her range is insane from so sweet to the deepest depths I didn’t even know could be voiced
Hasn't premiered yet, but the facial expression feels appropriate already.
Scott Bradlee never gets enough love in these video reactions (glad you did). Picking the genre and then arranging it all (and performing - he's on the piano). Plus, he always picks the right talents for the song (not just the singers, but all of the musicians). From Haley, to Puddle Pity Party, to Morgan James to Gunhild Carling. I mean, he incorporates tap dancers into songs (not just the physical act, but the sound of the tap dancer, into the songs).
I've been a fan of Haley since she was on American Idol. She has a special voice.
Same.
She had me with The House of the Rising Sun. Stunning.
I like Benny and the Jets.
@@jblair343 Yes! I remember watching that season and for whatever reason being meh about her. Until Benny and the Jets. From that point on every performance of hers was amazing and she was my personal winner.
Ah right, I thought she looked and sounded familiar.
IDK if you'll ever see this, but I just wanted to say I was having the WORST day today and your reaction to this totally lifted my spirits and made my day. Thank you!
Glad this was all here for you.
I hope you are feeling better now Eric. Feel free to respond below if ever you need a stranger's ear to listen. My name is haley. Take care. Xx
I love how you reacted to this song. It's like unwrapping a gift only to find another gift. 🥰
It's 2024 and I'm still in love with this performance and also this review.
As the story goes, this rendition was done while on tour when they had a few hours off and rented a studio to try out some songs. This was the first and only take! A singular talent....
I've loved Haley since America Idol. Ooooh! And when she sings with Casey Abrams, divine.
And now I've got tickets for PMJ on tour.
She is awesome and so is PMJ! They did "Seven Nation Army" and it's superb. Edit: I love "my choice" Tuesday so we can see artists that dont have crazy following in reaction community but deserve to be seen more👍
But the real proof of her awesomeness are not the polished videos, as great as they are, but the impromptu club performance with Irvin Mayfield Jr. on the Idols tour, these minimalist Room 5 performances she later did with Casey; and even more so the after-party songs she sometimes did on the street. Raw cellphone recordings, untouched by any sound engineer, settings nearly everybody has experienced with some friends ... but compare the result. That makes musicians question their life choices.
bohemian rhapsody
@@forgalzz7 Her performances with Casey Abrams are utterly transcendent.
Thank you! I've been loving "my choice" Tuesday too. So much fun exploring different directions. Also, I'm totally surprised and overjoyed by how many of you are willing to explore other music with me. It's pretty wonderful.
@@forgalzz7 Totally agree, I got to see Haley sing last year at the Roxy in Los Angeles . . . absolutely magical night!
Fell in love with her voice when she sang House of the Rising Sun about 10 years ago. Gave me chills
I’m jealous you listened to Haley Reinhart for the first time. I was an instant fan of hers 10 years ago on American Idol and became obsessed, scouring RUclips for every performance she’s done. You should listen to her rendition of House of the Rising Sun - it’s epic. I appreciate you saying she employs so many unique qualities to her voice. That’s also what I admire about her, the creativity and nuances to her singing. You can tell she puts a lot of effort in. Now I’m off to watch your other videos reacting to PMJ and Haley :)
I've been in a deep depression/anxiety filled funk lately. I absolutely love love love Hayley's rendition of Creep (more than Radiohead's!), and watching your expressions as you reacted made me *feel* this track more than I usually do. For just a moment, and the first time in almost two years, I felt something other than depressed... And that's thanks to you.
I agree I am deeply depressed also but this helped me also .
Her next song "Black Hole Sun" should be your second react right after this one.... You'll be shocked at what she can pull.....
I love that cover she puts so much power into the later chorus of that song
Yes!!
I saw her live at a PMJB show and hearing her sing this song live was a religious experience
Watching you listen to Hailey for the first time is watching love at first sight, and rightfully so! She's absolutely amazing.
Many have been calling her a real-life siren. I found it fitting how her legs lined up perfectly with the octopus.
Her voice does make you fall in love.
@@aarond5349 It does…for men and women!!
I can’t unsee this now…😂
Haley Reinhart has to be in the top five female singers I've ever heard. Of any era in any genre.
I just love watching this Lady experience some of my favourite songs/covers and seemingly have that same internal shock, awe, breathlessness chills and giddyness I get when I see someone do something exceptionally well.
What's incredible about this performance is the back story. She had already performed several songs, she was ill and she performed it in one take. She's a former American Idol contestant from 2001 who finished 3rd. Also, her mother and father are professional blues and jazz musicians who she performed with. She's the only American Idol contestant who performed in the finals with her father accompanying on guitar.
Haley is incredible. I don't understand why she hasn't had more exposure. I could listen to her sing all day.
@Troy Bonham exactly. She didn’t put up with the judges crap on idol either. To me she’s the best that was ever on that show.
Because talent does not mean success. Never has and never will.
Your enthusiasm just makes these videos. For we, the unwashed masses, we don't often realize what goes into a vocal performance. You explain the nuances really well and help us appreciate them on whole other level.
I was watching you at the beginning and thinking "lady hold onto to your hat, cause you ain't seen nothing yet".
Fun fact: This video has the most views of any song in PMJ's catalog.
And well deserved!!!’
I think a lot of them are me! Lol!
@@alannahwatts5778 I was going to say the same! 😆 I've listened to it many times! 🙂
Enjoyed Charismatic Voice's interpretation as much as Haley's performance!! I'm a 73 musician, and I agree that this performance was unbelievable! Thanks!
Please illustrate? I looked up multiple variations of charismatics voice Haley creep creep cover and don't know the difference between them.
She knows her instrument so well. I find myself almost in tears as a singer listening to this performance, such mastery of her art!

Your enthusiasm and pure joy radiating throughout this reaction is almost as breathtaking as the song. I feel like l just got home from a great night out! Thank you.
Hailey Reinhardt sounds like how Marilyn Monroe looked.
I love the joy you find from discovering good singers and how you radiate it through your channel. You read as very genuine and real in you excitement. Thank you for sharing!
I've just now discovered this song, and was going to suggest this to Elizabeth. Then I found this video. Funny thing is, her reaction was pretty much exactly mine. Lol. I immediately fell in love with her voice. A tremendous rendition! And a truly remarkable voice!
The emotions she is expressing and jumping thru them like someone actually having a meltdown. Sadness and self pity then self loathing and anger and begging for forgiveness and acceptance. Amazing.
Try "Mad World" with her and Puddles, it's one of my favorite songs from PMJ
OMG Yes!! That's sooo good
So much yes! Puddles is an amazing singer as well, perfect pairing!
This is one of my favorites of her music. Her and Puddle's are a great duet.
Hailey Reinhart house of the rising sun on that singing show was epic
That was the 2011 season of American Idol. Her version of "Blue" that year was incredible. I'd love to see Elizabeth review that one.
Haley gives me goosebumps every time I hear her.
She's magical.
Hi Elizabeth, I have never heard of Postmodern Jukebox until today and I look forward to hearing more songs in the future! Haley's beautiful voice is full of gorgeous tones, impressive range and power! The slight sultry moves of her body were graceful movements of her arms and hands which add to the presentation! I also Love the Quintet of musicians in the background (Trombone, Tenor Sax, Piano, Standup Bass and Drums)! Thank You, Elizabeth, for bringing another Amazing singer to your channel!!! :-)
You very much welcome! Yes, they are great and they feature a lot of great artists. And you're right, the instruments are fantastic as always!
God I love this channel, its like having a best friend who you share songs with who also loves all the same things about it that you do and its someone you can mutually get excited about the music with.
This is exactly what it’s like. Excellent observation!
Haley doing "I can't help falling in love" is very nice. Not the expressive one that this song is, but it's stripped back, her and a piano, and no jazz theme. Just her amazing voice.
Welcome to team Haley. Going strong since American Idol season 10. Her songs with Casey Abrams is really worth a look.
I adore watching you. You're so expressive and I can see the true love of music you possess
yes, the singers are the stars of PMJ but Scott Bradlee's arrangements are killer
Wow, one of the best reactions to this AMAZING performance that I’ve seen! And I’m so glad you mentioned her hands - I’ve watched this SO MANY times and sometimes I try to isolate one thing to focus on and one of them is definitely her hands. I’ve even turned off the sound on occasion just to pay attention to her hands. LOL
So...perhaps take a look at ”Seven Nation Army” next (another PMJ cover featuring Haley)?
The amount of geeking out you're doing is exactly what I did. Had the pleasure of seeing her do this live in Austin, TX and it was every bit as amazing. Met her after too, and she's an absolute peach of a person.
I love how you’re fangirling so hard, because I recognize the feeling. Haley and PMJ are amazing. Love the version of Mad World with her and puddles as well.
Haley’s voice has the warmest timbre EVER
Hailey Reinhart has always been an incredible singer. She was on American Idol when she was 17. And I love how happy and excited you get over her singing. 🥰
Haley auditioned for American Idol season S9 and was rejected. The show initially stated her age during S10 as 18. (probably because they had old data from S9). She was actually 20 when the S10 live shows began.
Freddie, Haley and Floor are my favorite singers ever. Haley is such a proficient singer it's nuts!
I'm glad you get the same reaction as me by Haley! She drives me to happy tears every time.

Haley Reinhart is one of my favorites, loved her since she first appeared in American idol.
You should hear her cover of " I cant help falling in love with you"
That one hits me hard. Oof so good.
I'm a 39 year old offshore worker but your reactions to talented singers makes me tear up...
One take...no edits...no autotune...AND she was sick that day!
Just found Haley this morning by accident and was BLOWN AWAY!! Watched a video with this singer covering Can't Help Falling in Love and was in AWE. But no credit on the video for the music. :( So I did some searching, you'd be surprised how many people have cover Can't Help Falling in Love, and found the one. Then did another search using her name and saw a vid of her doing this song at Naperville Ribfest.. Oh my GOD! Incredible voice and an amazing performer.

I'm really not sure which I enjoy more, listening to Haley sing, or watching your reaction to her. I've watched dozens of reactions to her but yours is by far the most entertaining and informative. Thank you so much!
The first time I heard her sing, it happened to be this song as well, I cried. It was an experience. To recapture it would be miraculous.
Seeing this performed live was one of my favourite experiences of all time
😍 can't wait to see this. I've listened to this song countless times now. Was fortunate to see PMJ in concert twice in New Zealand. They are an amazing ensemble 💕
I've seen them in the UK a few years ago! Was such a brilliant party atmosphere :D
I’ve loved this version for a few years now. Some favorite moments are, “I said it” and of course nailing the unaccompanied key change.
Haley: *opens mouth*
Elizabeth: *squirms*
You've probably gotten smashed with requests for more PMJ. Black Hole Sun is basically required listening. I would also highly recommend checking out their cover of Oasis' Don't look Back in Anger with the incomparable Maiya Sykes.
Dang, PMJ seems to have so much good that I haven't seen yet!
@@TheCharismaticVoice PMJ's reservoir of creativity has no end! Earlier this year, they recruited 3 excellent vocalists and covered The Spice Girls' hit "Wannabe"...in the close-harmony style of The Andrews Sisters! ruclips.net/video/u9jGGiqjwf4/видео.html
The Charismatic Voice They’ve been rock in’ it for quite some time now & everything’s good good... :-)
I'll add PMJ cover of Metallica, Nothing Else Matters required listening too
Haley has a hell-of-a- set of pipes! No one else sounds like her!
Now that you've stepped into the PMJ pool, you're going to get swamped with recommendations for other Haley songs, followed by Morgan James, and both are excellent. But, both are also highly featured on reaction channels. I'd suggest you save them until later and explore some of the less often shown clips. Sara Niemietz does a version of I Want You to Want Me that is so far from the tone of the original that it becomes a genuinely moving song. Which is totally marred by the fact you can hear her earrings clicking when she moves. Many of her songs are great, though. Ariana Savalas is also worth checking out near the start of this journey. She puts a sultry spin on everything. EVERYTHING. I'm not a big fan of the songs Von Smith covers, but his voice is great.
Their talent pool is so deep when it comes to singers, and most channels all stay in the same end. I encourage you to wade into the depths a bit with them.
@Damiano Truzzi I'd say yes. Von Smith is highly featured. He's lead on at least a half dozen tracks, and does great on them all. I just don't care for the songs or arrangements on this particular ones.
Along that line, some of the less explored things by PMJ that I think deserve more reaction love are Jennie Lena's cover of Crazy Train, Joey Cook's cover of Ain't No Rest For The Wicked, and Shoshanna Bean's cover of I Want it That Way.
I agree, Sara Niemietz is another amazing singer. Sara's Werkly Wacky Wednesday live shows (3pm central time) have helped me get through this year.
OHMYGOODNESS!!! I am SO glad you reviewed PMJ...they are amazing! I hope you get a chance to review the cover of "Dream On" done by Post Modern Jukebox featuring Morgan James!!! It will blow your head off...um, in the best way possible!
I was just about to post this. Morgan James is absolutely incredible
I second this, I love PMJ's stuff (not everything but a lot of it) and morgan james really blew my mind there!
I just commented about "Take Me to Church" but Dream-On is awesome too!
Morgan James is awesome, Maps, Dream on, Take me to church, even Barbie girl, is amazing. Scott Bradlee is the best thing what can ever happened to music in years.
You would be amazed what PMJ and Morgan do to turn Aerosmith's rock classic into a jazzy blues song! Cheers, Steve
Hard to believe she lost (came in second) on The Voice. I first heard her with PMJ doing All About That Bass and fell in love with her voice instantly. Definitely my favorite female singer,
Third, on American Idol, behind two teenage country music singers.
@@vidpie i really messed that up and I stand corrected.
This is easily my favorite video of 2020. I LOVE your reaction to Haley's extraordinary voice. The radiant joy expressed in your facial expressions and commentary is so beautiful.
"Phew...hold it in." Priceless!
“Uhhhhg...she’d fantastic”
Yes. Exactly that.
I just LOVE your reactions! I react the same way when listening to great singers like that. The best part: you put all of my thoughts into words about everything the singers are doing or the arrangement is aiming for. Obviously, you have the knowledge (and the musical ear) to see all the little nuances that are being used to delight the listeners. The part I like the best is your genuine love for music showing in all of these amazing compositions being JukeBox or acapella songs. Thank you for detailing in words what we feel when watching these prodigies. You ROCK!!

LOVE this reaction. It's like hearing it for the first time all over again. She's done several more with PMJB and they're all good. Also love your insight thinking about it as being sung by an unfulfilled 50's housewife, puts a whole new spin on her performance.
Thanks! I know not everyone will relate to it in that way, but it definitely struck me (and you too, woot!).
@@TheCharismaticVoice The best part of watching your reaction is how in depth you expressed how you felt what Haley was feeling as she sang this cover. Like everyone, I'm in love with this cover by her. It's got to be the best overall performance I've seen of anyone on You tube. But, what I really enjoyed was how into her and impressed you are with her. Your explanations of Haley made me think if Haley has watched this reaction she might want to meet up with you and talk about what you were thinking of her singing and explain how she was feeling and how she wanted to sing this cover while doing this song. Both of you would probably have a great time discussing things.I don't think Haley ever sings any performance exactly the same. She seems to improvise often. Whenever I hear someone as great as Haley, I look into everything I can find on that person. And she is one of those people.
Another one is Courtney Hadwin who is not as polished because of her age, but the soul, the passion and the richness of her vocals she possesses is very comparable here. ruclips.net/video/wPYeT5xmGbg/видео.html
Your enthusiasm is infectious. Who would I have guessed I would love watching someone else watching someone sing.
Now this is someone who understands music..
That’s why we love her!
