It was such a great experience to see/hear this group (and Haley!) for the first time ever! What else from PMJ, Haley, or any other artists do I simply NEED to see?
PMJ + Haley do an amazing cover of The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army". It's that channel's third-most viewed video (at 55M views). This one here, "Creep", is the most-viewed on that channel.
I'm much more partial to Haley, but a lot of people seem to like "Dream On" by Morgan James (also with PMJ, same channel - 32M views).
All about that bass is another good one
The two I remember kicking off their popularity like a decade ago, were Sweet Child of Mine and Royals. I think Sweet Child of Mine is the more interesting arrangement..... Royals is more visually striking on account of the 7ft singing clown.
This is such a great version of "Mad World" from PMJ with Haley and Puddles Pity Party:
ruclips.net/video/aVevvbFNKiY/видео.html
Enjoy!💯❤
Dream On is good too
PMJ & Haley doing “Seven Nation Army”
That's my all-time favourite, it's absolutely stunning!
100% need to do this one for sure!! One of my favs from PMJ & Haley!
This suggestion has won the comment section for sure
@@PeterBarber it's just as good as creep. You're going to love it!
Jessica Rabbit in the flesh when she sings that one.
PMJ and Morgan James doing “Dream On” - but it’s subtler than the original. The arrangement is good.
Their version of "Take me to church" with Morgan James is also incredible, brings out a completely different dimension to the song
Thanks for the rec!
^^ THIS.
Seriously, do this.
Haley is my favorite of PMJ's singers, but I love this song as much as any
Morgan James is a Juilliard trained singer. She can sing bel canto and immediately thereafter belt out a rock ballad like Dream On. She's amazing!
Haley singing Mad World with Puddles the Pity Clown is probably my absolute favorite demonstration of her vocal skills. She wasn't with them when I saw them in Vancouver in February, but PMJ in general is an amazing group of talented singers and musicians!
awesome thank you
@@PeterBarber be sure not to skim ahead in the video... gotta watch this one in real time. You'll see why. :)
And yeah, definite second for Mad World with Haley and Puddles.
There are no bad PMJ covers. Every song, every singer that joins them, every little thing the horn guys do in the background of the videos, it all is just wonderful!
This is an absolute mind-blowing rendition (hence the millions and millions of views) but the story behind how it came about makes it even crazier. According to Scott Bradley the arrangement was initially made for another singer. She liked it so much that she'd been playing around with it on her own time. They were on tour at the time and on their day off from performances they recorded a bunch of songs. At the end of the session Scott asked Haley if she wanted to take a stab at this song. Her voice was tired from the tour and the recording session (possibly a bit under the weather as well) so she was hesitant. Scott asked if she couldn't at least give it one take. She agreed to one take and... well this is that one take and the rest is history! 🤯
That's insane!
Everything you just mentioned may have contributed to how believable and sultry it turn out.
Greatest one-take-wonder I've ever heard.
She was just getting over a cold right before this.
Haley puts quite a bit of "Jessica Rabbit" into Creep. This is a fantastic performance from her.
The original male Singer's version had a desperate despondent over his crush feel. Haley's here does seem to have a Jessica rabbit knowing exactly what she's doing vibe.
Scott Bradlee, the sole permanent member, is the arranger. These videos by PMJ, you'll notice, are one camera one take. Hundreds of videos.
Great reaction. You missed the drummer which is a standing joke with PMJ. In some of the videos the drummer will wave so people notice he's there. Hailey's performances with PMJ are excellent. I would recommend Seven Nation Army, Mad World and It's All About the Bass.
Hahah gotcha gotcha
And do watch PMJ with Morgan James doing "Dream On" - a little blond who was operatically trained at Juilliard, then did off-Broadway and now sings R&B - I think she may be one of the absolute top female singers out there right now
I love her voice. I especially love her solo in All About That Bass (and the bass duet).
Next up...Seven Nation Army...w/PMJ. Will not disappoint. Welcome to Haleys world. Absolutely fabulous singer on so many levels.❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Sounds gooood
Haley and PMJ Seven Nation Army and Don’t Speak are my favorites other than this one. I have loved Haley’s voice since she was on American Idol with Casey Abrams.
Oh I didn't know she went on American Idol
@@PeterBarber Lol, she was on back in 2011, so it was a while ago. She has really come into her own style since then.
It's been said already, but 7 Nation Army is a perfect blend of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday and Jessica Rabbit! Dream On w/ Morgan James is stellar, too. Then- Haley & Morgan showing how to chill and sing like champs while sitting on a couch doing Dear Prudence. Lots of PMJ to do. Haley's lil rabbit hole is a fun ride!
Dear Prudence... Yes!!
Ooooooh, I ADORE this cover. It is in my top 3 covers of this song, ever. Haley is....*chef's kiss*
For me it's this one and Korn's from MTV Unplugged.
Just gotta tease Peter to talk to his friend @charismaticvoice more often. Elizabeth has been fangirling haley a few years now.
To give Scott bradlee credit too. He does a magnificent job of transforming iconic hit songs to a vintage era with his arrangements in postmodern jukebox.
7 nation army and all about the bass should be in your future for Haley and Postmodern jukebox
More PMJ any time, please! Dream On with singer Morgan James is a show stopper as well! ❤️🎶
I would characterize PMJ arrangements in general as occupying the overlap in the Venn diagram between "respectful" and "'playful." The best, like this one, add in "illuminating" as they reveal new possibilities in a song, even one as familiar and well-covered as this one. As for Haley's performance--I can't add anything to your wonderful technical analysis, but I will say that the thing that impresses me most is how she showcases so many of her vocal abilities without in any way letting technique compromise the emotional impact of the music. Quite the opposite, as the stylistic choices and shifts feel natural, even when (or perhaps because) they're unexpected. For a layperson like me, that defines "bravura"--singing that's both smart AND emotionally committed.
PMJs version of All About That Bass is fun.
Great reaction.
Aside from all the obvious collaborations with PMJ, Haley’s double performance at Chess Records in Chicago, with just her dad on acoustic guitar, is a true representation of Haley’s prowess in blues/jazz/soul music. Her rendition of Can’t Find My Way Home and Don’t Know How To Love You, are second to none.
Not only her vocals, but every movement she makes perfectly conveys the style and feeling she is going for.
Peter. At last you're discovering PMJ! Scott Bradlee is the core of this. The musician mix changes quite a bit. Scott does the arranging but usually in conjunction with the singer. I would recommend your next PMJ experience their rendition with Puddles of the song "Chandelier". It is an amazing collaboration featuring violin and cello.
Thanks so much for reacting to this amazing singer. She sings in tune, she scats, she belts, she does it all. Wow!
Absolutely!
She is criminally underrated
The control this woman exhibits is otherworldly! Everything she does with her voice is deliberate and exact. Absolutely incredible.
I love everything PMJ does, they are so much fun. I saw them in February and it was a true experience. Tap dancing, singing audience in period clothing.
Such a beautiful rendition of this song
This is one of the best covers of this song out there. Can't believe that its your first time with it, let alone with PMJ. This sucker sits in nearly all of my playlists... cuz I can listen to this to this on loop.
You have to check out Post Modern Jukebox featuring Morgan James covering "Dream On". Outstanding!
Haley is always a treat to listen to
Absolutely need to listen to Haley's version of Seven Nation Army AND Don't Speak! And, YES YES YES Check out Morgan James' version of Dream On! Scott Bradlee is Genius with his revolving band members and singers! The outcomes are ALL epic remastered HITS! Haley has such a sultry, powerful, mixed with "Jessica Rabbit"voice that punches you in the ears vibe and Morgan has this POWERHOUSE , less raspy, clear as the cloudless blue sky "punch"...SO SO Magnificent!! (they did a trio collaboration of "All About That Bass" too...Another amazing MUST LISTEN. (even if you don't want to do a reaction...they are must listens!) Enjoy! I LOVE your reactions, Peter! Blessings to you!!!
Loved this arrangement! What a voice?!
It's even more nuts that Haley did this in one take, on her first try. Mind blown. Would love to hear your thoughts on Sia's live Letterman performance of Soon We'll Be Found.
from what i remember, she did that whole thing in one take lol
I've also heard she may have been sick. If so, then damn amazing.
@@mandySIMS6319she wasn’t sick. Definitely just a rumor.
That's the whole thing about PMJ, they sing their songs reimagining them as if they were from other times.
PMJ is legitimately amazing. The song that introduced me to them was their cover of Royals with Puddles Pity Party, and as much as they were definitely... much smaller back then, they still had a lot of that character. One of my favorites of theirs is Don't Stop Believing. It's just a very fun video.
This is the perfect reason to go and listen to the drummer in The Warning sing this song when she was like 17-18 year old.
Could be good to hear you compare them. Both are amazing
This was an awesome reaction. I love watching people who know about vocal techniques react to Haley. She's phenomenal.
They tour often. Check the dates and GO when they’re nearby. We nearly cheered them off stage we were so enthralled at the excellent performances and return to straight up analog . 6-8 singers rotating around three cycles with a big gang sang at the big finish .
This was SO good!💜💜💜
Scott Bradlee is, in my opinion, a musical genius. He hears a modern song and can re-imagine it in another style. Then, by adding these amazing singers who have such range and flexibility in different styles, these masterpieces are created.
My husband and I did our first dance to this version of Creep. Preformed by my family too. Love seeing others appreciate the artistry here!
I just love watching folk react to this video. To watch them experience her rollercoaster is so emotional; and the instrumental expression is so sublime! We’re only through the first stanza- the anticipation for her truly opening up is breathtaking. Hang on, dude, she ain’t even started coloring the palette….
Haley is a stunning example of someone who can use a MASSIVE amount of technique without it getting to a point where it's detracting from the singing. It doesn't just impress, and it doesn't just sound good. It's amazing.
Her House of the Rising Sun performance back in her American Idol days has always stood out to me 🙋♀️
One of my favorite performances of hers! ❤
That's one of my favorite performances of that song just in general.
Love your R&As! Always fun to see new artists! And your analyses are just great!
One of my favorites is Hailey and Morgan James sitting on a sofa singing Dear Prudence with just acoustic guitar, classic and timeless
Yes! That one is so beautiful and they're just hangin' out, singing at home lol.
I’ve loved Haley’s cover of this song for years. This is the best reaction of any I’ve ever seen. I love the pure joy on his face. Haley and PMJ can do no wrong in my book!
There is a 5 piece band. The drummer is behind her. PMJ does one camera, live videos. I love watching men react to her, you didn’t disappoint.
Your VERY first reaction... your eyes, your smile, without any words... said it all. I could have stopped right there... but I didn't. I wanted to see your full experience. Okay. Done. Your analysis was excellent! I think this is top 10 of any vocalist /instrumental performance I've ever heard. I have listened to other Hailey numbers, and I think she is really good. But THIS?? This is just magnificent. Great reaction/analysis!
This group has a few phenomenal lead singers! Check out more of their songs.
PMJ is absolutely wonderful and you should definitely go down that rabbit hole. What you see in the video is exactly what you are hearing- everything is recorded in one take. They are phenomenal live too. Very talented musicians and vocalists.
It’s always a treat when Haley performs/records with PMJ! She was a finalist on American Idol a little over a decade ago! She finished third place (disappointedly). She’s exceptionally talented!
This cover is amazing. First time I heard I was blown away by Haley's voice. They do a really excellent dirge style cover of "Seven Nation Army" with Haley as well.
That second verse she has a real "baby doll" sound.
Thanks for this great reaction - knowledgeable evaluation and great recognition of an excellent recording!
PMJ with Morgan James, Haley (again), and Telly Savalas' daughter doing All About That Bass.
That was the best of all these collabs!
PMJ with Morgan James doing "Dream On" - one of the best covers you will ever hear! It reminded me, "Oh, yeah, rock songs are based in blues and jazz." First time I ever actually heard the amazing words to this song.
Awesome reaction! This is one of my reactionalysis test cases: "I know I love this....what can the analyst tell me (untrained in music) about why I love it?" You teach so well and so much!
You're for sure a top 5 for this one (unranked order): You, Charismatic Voice, Fairy Voice Mother, Arab Man, Vocalyst. Honorable mention: Julia Nilon & Jennifer Glatzhofer.
Love this cover, I was one of those who recommended this to Peter 👍
Haley is an INCREDIBLE singer. All her work she does comes out stellar. I think a lot of people know her thanks to PMJ, but she also does great stuff besides it!
Thanks Peter 😊
If I remember correctly Haley was sick the day this was filmed, but still pulled this off in a single take.
PMJ keeps bringing wonderful vocalists to the forefront.
Hailey has a background in Jazz and can skat.
My recent crush is Effie Pasero. I Was Made For Lovin' You - Kiss is spectacular.
Ariana Savalas is a favorite and a wonderful vamp. Vaudeville background.
Great reaction, Peter! Haley is a unique singer. I've seen her live and it was an amazing show. I recommend the PMJ performance of All About That Jazz featuring Haley, Morgan James and Ariana Savalas. A very enjoyable cover.
Delighted to see you explore Haley and PMJ. Good stuff!
My vote? PMJ w/ Hannah Gill & Casey Adams doing Crazy.
I really enjoyed this reaction. I've enjoyed PMJ for over a decade now, and really appreciate Scott Bradlee's vision and arranging. Hoping to see more PMJ in the future!
I love how she gets a bit of growl into the 2nd chorus. Not resignation, sadness, lostness... no. Getting a bit pissed about it!
Her “Don’t Speak” cover is amazing as well.
Hi Peter 😊 such a great great reaction! Haven't seen you having that much fun and joy during a reaction. A total appreciation of her instrument. I smiled throughout the whole video 😃
I've listened to this performance so many times that I practically have every note memorized. The first time I heard Haley sing it live was with PMJ in 2015, and the last time was with her own band a week ago. She's such a talented musician that she makes it different every time. Truly impressive!
I got to see haley live a few years ago and shes absolutely amazing! She has such good stage presence and personality. I definitely want to see her again one day
I love their rendition of "All about that Bass".
so OK, we're in a 1950's jazz club, listening to the chanteuse perform......champagne for Haley and scotch for the band ! what an arrangement by Scott and PMJ......
Scott Bradlee (the pianist in all of their songs) is also the arranger for all of PMJ's songs
UMMM WOW! Never heard her before. What a talent
PMJ and Morgan James cover of Dream on Morgan is a Julliard grad formerly trained in Opera. However, she decided to take a different path as she loves jazz, She is a beast and one the best singers I have ever heard. I've been a pro Trombone player for over 40 years. I have had the privilege of playing for some very A list performers and Morgan blows them all away!
Great band, great analysis as usual. I've been singing rock & jazz for more than 50 years and it surprises me just how much I've learned about the human voice listening to your analysis. Many thanks.
Everything PMJ does is just so damn good.
This is one of my favorite PMJ collabs!! As @RebeccaVaughn stated, Haley's "House of the Rising Sun" performance on American Idol is SOO good! I absolutely love Haley's voice and energy! ❤
What a great intro to PMJ for you. Depending on the song there can be many more instruments and other vocalists. The pianist, Scott Bradlee, does all their arrangements. This is one of their older style vids where they hide the drummer in the back behind everybody. They don't do that anymore. People have named some of their most popular songs in the comments below. But Scott Bradlee likes to mess with songs like he did with this one, changing style way beyond the original version. Enjoy this rabbit hole!
PMJ with Morgan James doing Dream On.
LOVE LOVE LOVE...great reaction!
Smiles and stank faces are the appropriate responses.
loved your reaction and evaluation
So glad you got to hear this! Haley is amazing and PMJ as a whole does awesome stuff. Go down that rabbit hole, please, Peter!
Loved your reaction 😊😊
Excellent reaction. I have heard many reactors respond to this tract and all love it but you explained why people love this rendition in many cases more than the original. Good job Peter.
Thanks for watching!
It was my pleasure to react to such a astute commentary
Great reaction Peter, thanks a lot! PMJ (Scott Bradlee) are fantastic, and Haley is one of the greatest vocalists performing with them, imho. They got some neat ones though, Morgan James is another favorite of mine (watch her with PMJ covering "Dream On" by Aerosmith - epic! Morgan released a very beautiful new cover today, "50 Ways To Lose Your Lover", jazzed up, with an incredible harmonica player, and perc., bass and guit. are spot on... Great listen!
Haley did nearly a dozen recordings with PMJ, all are great, Seven Nation Army another must watch... But Iove her solo or in other collabs, you really need to know her double platinum "Can't Help falling In Love" (the Wrigley's Extra Gum commercial version...), best version of that song ever (put aside Diana, but hers is a different song...)
Peace and love from Bavaria!
PMJ with Haley and Puddles doing Mad World is one of my favs. When I first saw it I had never heard of PMJ or Haley or Puddles. To be sure, they are all great and now I'm a fan of them all. After that I saw this Creep cover and it also blew me away.
Great reaction! Thanks!
Love this one!
She did this all in the first and only take. And she was either sick or exhausted or both. I can't recall which. It's been too long.
The Northern Kings version is also incredible. They really turned it into something dark and, well, creepy, as befitting the lyrics.
Enjoyable and informative reaction to one of my favorite singers! Hope you get a chance to explore some more of her repertoire.
Great reaction, Peter! If this was your first exposure to PMJ, then you MUST explore some of their other videos. Everything they do is always Excellent. Scott Bradley (piano) does all of the arrangements, and brings in various musicians and singers.Their cover of No Doubt's "Don't Speak", also with Haley is outstanding. As well as covers with Morgan James and Puddle's Pity Party!
This might be my fave cover of all time!!!
check out "All about the bass"by PMJ
Goosebumps.
Great reaction. Learned a few things 😊
The only thing that is important to know from a production point, is that this recording is the first and only take.
