Welp, this blew my mind in the final chorus 😱Honestly one of the coolest and most interesting vocal timbres I've ever heard -- I see why so many people were recommending me to watch! Hope you all enjoyed, and learned a thing or two from my analysis. Please read below for an important announcement!
Despite a long-awaited copyright dispute to resolve, I was unable to get this video unblocked in Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, so I will be uploading the video a second time. The 2nd version will be blurred and darkened like I do for the Dimash videos, so everybody should be able to see it. I shared this PSA as a RUclips community post for the viewers in those territories that will be unable to watch this one. Thanks for reading!

    Welcome! Who is Diana Ankudinova?
Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. (Hight: 1,7 m/5,7” ) She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she abused the child and tried to drown it. One day this 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage.
There she finally found love ... by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist who treated the children from the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared, but she could all sing songs from cartoons. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started …
Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D6). Diana's voice also sometimes has a polyphonic undertone. You hear: Her voice sounds an octave below the singing voice. (But not everyone can hear that.) Diana also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions.
In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a unique competition and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to RUclips and soon she had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists start their studies and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship.
Igor Krutoy, here as a juror, gave her a small apartment (37m²/398,26 ft²) in Moscow. There, in the small flat she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to begin her vocal training with the best teachers.
2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier than it is 'normal'. That alone shows how smart and hardworking she is.
She applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts. (Juilliard similar to GITIS) She is already composing songs and we will definitely hear her own work soon. ❤ Greetings from Germany

She’s not only a contralto meaning she can sing very low notes, but she’s also polyphonic which means she can sing two notes at once and harmonize with herself. The reason it sounds like someone’s manipulating her voice is because she naturally sounds auto tuned. It’s incredibly rare.

Diana Ankudinova is one of the greatest singers of our time. This is a female polyphonic contralto, one of the rarest voices in existence. She can scale high and low notes like no one I've ever heard and also has the ability to "split" her voice. This is not done electronically, it is her natural ability to manipulate the resonance of her vocal tract to create more. than one step at a time. Her talent, combined with the genuine emotion she puts into her words, is what makes her such a moving singer. Many people I've shown her music to have told me they've never felt music like this before. She truly touches the soul with her voice. She is called "The Angel with the Devil's Voice" because her voice is as captivating as it is touching. As she gets older and her voice develops, her talent only continues to grow.

polyphonic singing is something that can be taught and learned, calling her one of rarest voices in existance is just dumb. her spending countless hours practicing and learning her technique is what makes her an amazing singer with all the other aspects she does in her performances. being uneducated and trying to make your delusional opinions on internet sound like facts sometimes works but not to everyone, people who know how much she worked and practiced to make herself into what she is now can truly appreciate her music.
people like you who see 1 video of her and call her greatest singer of all time with natural born unique talent are extremely ignorant and dont appreciate the hard work shes put into it.
educate yourself on vocals first before wrongly educating someone else

If you are engaged in opera, then you may be interested to know that the man who stood up and supported Diana with folded hands is a very titled opera singer (tenor) Yusif Eyvazov, who performs at such opera venues as the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Bolshoi Theater, the Paris National Opera and others. He is also the husband of Anna Netrebko, the legendary diva! After Diana 's speech , he said: "Believe me, I have heard many wonderful voices in my life, but this girl has a unique voice!"
And yes, the version without blurring is working in Russia now! It's nice)

I love how the darker sound of her voice and the minor key takes what was originally a more upbeat love song and transforms it into something else, like either a tragic, unrequited love song or even a dark obsessive passion. Diana's voice is truly magical, but this song is my favorite one in her repertoire so far. I feel like I'm watching some form of elemental magic, watching her, as if she is a high level music mage, and voice is the source of her power.

Please note that even when she sings in the lower range, the tongue is absolutely flat, that is, she does not bend it to sound lower, this is an absolutely natural sound for Diana, which she reproduces thanks to long ligaments. (sorry, I didn't watch your video to the end. Have you noticed it yourself).
As for voice processing, it is unlikely that this is the case, yes, very good equipment, good acoustics, yes, sometimes you can hear backing vocals, but there is no software voice processing, because you can hear her taking in air on inspiration, such defects are usually eliminated by the voice processing program.

She's already scary good, already matches pretty much all of the great popstar singers etc. (non opera) and I am sure she will rival all of the opera singers if she doesn't already (don't know too much about opera).

Diana is an immense and unmatched talent. And she's only 18.
She started singing from a young age as a way to overcome a speech problem caused by the trauma and abuse she suffered at the hand of her mother, who abandoned her at an early age with an injured collarbone on the streets of Russia. Here is an early performance at age 10 of the Beatles' Oh Darling (not an easy song to sing) ruclips.net/video/FyFIrFLjLr4/видео.html. The world class talent was clearly evident even then. She first achieved national attention from her performance of Jodel Time at age 13 on Russia's version of The Voice. ruclips.net/video/vKdvaWsd91Q/видео.html. That she was not selected caused a national uproar and gave rise to numerous accusations of corruption.
She achieved further national recognition at age 14 as a result of her very first performance on the You Are Super show of the Indila's Deniere Danse, which has over 133,000,000 views ruclips.net/video/mve3-fEuTHA/видео.html. She followed that performance with James Brown's It's A Man's World ruclips.net/video/qQGfO36K1B0/видео.html and then Rechenka (a true masterpiece of performance art) ruclips.net/video/35Dwo4QVLqs/видео.html. Of course, she won the competition. As an encore she performed Lara Fabian's Tomorrow Is A Lie ruclips.net/video/6caTfbq4XyA/видео.html
At age 15, she again competed on the You Are Super show, beginning with Blizzard ruclips.net/video/1_4lFqKM3GA/видео.html, then Chris Izzak's Wicked Game ruclips.net/video/7jv-DQnf2UY/видео.html, and closing with Rag N' Bone Man's Human ruclips.net/video/-KgD666fRtY/видео.html
    Again, she won.
She recently appeared on, and won, the first season of the Russian TV show TheShowMaskGoOn. Highlights were Elvis' Can't Help Falling In Love" ruclips.net/video/M-znD6QKbrg/видео.html; Oh It's Not Yet Evening ruclips.net/video/cfTiQkJrLi0/видео.html ; and Crow ruclips.net/video/yeq_hRU7MSw/видео.html

Early on when Diana was a little girl in the orphanage, a speech pathologist examined her mouth and throat to determine any damage as she was frequently stuttering, possibly from post-trauma caused by her mother's physical abuse. The doctor said her mouth and throat were fine, but with a particularly large pharynx/larynx. This may likely account for her lower range sound, which you can hear in her singing performances as a teenager on TV talent shows, for example the song "Wicked Game," when she was about 14-15 yrs old.

She was 18 years old in this Elvis cover. This performance was a little special because she was showcasing all the work she put into head voice. When her voice first changed she got really insecure in head voice. She would instead employ her expertise in yodeling and falsetto. This was very much a new plateau for her. She's gotten even better at flipping to head voice without needing to yodel. None of the other people really knew who she was as this was the first day of the show, and the guy who stood up was Anna Netrebko's husband. He was the guest that day.
I understand the whole vocal fach thing. Dramatic contralto is her classification in the Russian pedagogy, which was made when her voice first changed at 14. As far as I know GITIS, which is like Russia's Julliard school and also where she's studying, considers her a contralto as well (based on her unamplified assessments). She's not really known as a very melismatic singer but her agility with eastern scale runs is very impressive. Formant structure and vowel modification are things she seemed to understand intuitively at a very young age. That and navigating the passaggio. She is an expert yodeler and likes to cry off her break in her more ethnic style singing. Her trademark is dissonance and you'll hear harmonic minor scales quite often from her.
Rechenka is usually a bit too much for most people to jump into, as it is a folk song sung in a very classical way. The same could be said about opera, though, so I think if you really want to get a better understanding of her voice you should definitely check out her performance of Rechenka from when she was 14 years old. Most people go for the cover of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game, but I think you would find Rechenka much more vocally stimulating due to all the techniques she is employing. Some real vocal wizardry at work on that performance. Nowadays she sings that song acapella at the bard club.

I'd like to know who this person is that has more power in their vocal performance than Diana Ankudinova because I've never heard anyone...perhaps in part because her power is combined with her unique rich timbre. Her coach said that her recorded voice does not truly portray the greatness of her voice in real life because the technology simply cannot pick it up. These Russian talent contests, I am told, do not look favourably upon any voice manipulation. They are talent contests. Welcome to the journey! She's 18 here (and now) but has been doing crazy good stuff for years! Her performance of Rechenka when she was 14 may show you some of her vocal versatility. The Crow (aged 18), too... there are a lot of performances to choose from :) She is unique. Next-level talent imho. Thank you for you reaction.

To laymen like me there is just no other way to describe her voice then other worldly. She was 18 in this performance and has an interesting back story on Wikipedia under Diana Ankudinova. She had a violent and abusive birth mother and ended up in an orphanage. If not for her adoptive mother she would have wasted away in that orphanage and her unique voice would have been forever lost. What a beautiful review! A couple of things- There is no manipulation, she was born with a very unique anatomy, apparently ,allowing her to actually be polyphonic (vibrates with two tones/notes simultaneously). Her vocal chords are longer and thicker than most people, as well- making it an insane experience. No wonder she's called the angel with a demons voice. Yep, shes also done this in a MINOR key, adding to the dark quality of the song but your reaction and mine were identical. Your face said what I felt at that chest part, before you even spoke.. Shes brilliant ❤ she's almost scary . I've heard some of her other songs and it is truly Cher- like but "darker". Like and angel and a demon got together and out she came. Yikes

Hi greetings from the UK she's the real deal and you should go back to her earlier performances on her channel shes 18 here.
Start with Wicked game at 14..
She can go lower and she can flip from one octave straight through to a higher or lower or run through a perfect glissando.
She is also here revealing she can sing high in a competition show... the effect on the judges and audience was .. 🤯
If Elizabeth Zarhoff thinks shes a contralto ... You should listen ... BTW she naturally sounds like that, she can create polyphonic sounds ... this is a feature of many Eastern and sub Artic cultures.. as is the yodel and yoiking based sounds she can produce since she was 13.
Diana is adopted and i would invite you to check out her early childhood as a means of enhancing your perspective..
She has a unique vocal sound and is a true grafter at developing her stage skills yet her personality is far from any teenage stage diva.
This was her opening number in her first adult competition and to borrow from Michael Cain in the Italian job Diana .... I only told you to blow the bloody doors off.🤯😎😂🤣🎆..she won this round and the competition ultimately.
This was Cinderella girl getting to play fantasy Diva... with full stage craft support.. that in itself is rare.
When you see and hear her do Crow or her earlier performances you will quickly find out why she gets the title of queen of goosebumps or the Shamanic princess... For more low resonance listen to her sing Blizzard... you will feel it😉...🧙‍♂️

It’s a great analysis and Diana can sing anything but her true uniqueness is not even in her power or tone (which ARE mind boggling) but her ability to transfer emotions. She is the shiver queen, a spirit, a siren, a forest nymph, an intergalactic phenomenon!! Please, react to her “Rechenka”(at 14), “Crow”(18), “Not evening yet”, “Human”(15), “Wicked game”(15), “Twist in my sobriety”, “Personal Jesus”, “What a wonderful world” and many more. She has also recently released her first album. BTW, her tongue is flat and relaxed and she is 18 now. On her channel she often does a capella singing and singing without a microphone so you can hear her clean voice.

I love watching a good vocalist get drawn in by Diana for the first time. Falling in love isn't always a happy or good thing. There was a dark version out there, though the artist eludes me at the moment, which she and the arranger used as the base to get across the dark moody emotions she wanted. She was 18 here and very young in her development as a singer but I believe she is a true contralto, I know rare. I hope that as she matures, she will transition into a full dramatic contralto I know, ever rarer. The guy standing on the top tier with tears in his eyes is Yusif Eyvazov who is married to Anna Netrebko, both well-known and respected opera singers. What does it say about her performance if you could move him to tears? I believe she has said in an interview that she has no desire to pursue opera because it is too structured and restrictive. That is a pity because she could be world class and opera companies around the world would kill to have her perform with them. She is most comfortable singing in her mid-lower, to lower range but doesn't have to force either her lower or upper.

Diana is now 18 and still pursuing her music studies as well as developing her career. Enjoy. 😊 { Hi from Tasmania ! }

There are hundreds of covers of this song and few touch me and come close to Elvis, but Diana and her trainers and musicians are smart and she makes her own song out of it.
Diana sang this song by Elvis Presley in the first episode of the competition 'Шоумаскгоон' (ShowMASKgoon). This was Diana's first adult competition in November 2021. She was the youngest competitor (aged 18) and wowed contestants and spectators with her first song.
Rules: 9 winners of the previous shows 'The Mask', 'Superstar' and 'You are Super' took part in this new format and had to sing in 9 categories: folk hit, song at the end of the 20th century, Soviet song, pop hit, song your choice, new music, song from cartoon or film, rock hit, Grammy
The man who jumps up is the famous opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and husband of the world famous opera singer Anna Netrebko. He is the guest of honor and awards 9 points. Each episode has a new guest of honor.
The competitors have to assess each other and have praised Diana to the skies. They said of their performance: 'Diana has no competition on the show - she amazes with her talent - it's impossible to tear yourself away from her - you want to listen endlessly, they're in tears and they're even afraid to blink' .
8 participants (Diana cannot score herself) gave Diana the highest score (9). She won the first episode... and later won the contest.

The dude standing up is apparently a professional and famous Opera singer so that shows a lot. She has more songs she sings and she’s definitely a dramatic contralto and then polyphonic. I can’t believe many vocal coaches actually miss that!! Towards the end you can literally hear her sing in two different tones like there’s another person, yet no one mentions it. Every single vocal coach never seizes to amaze me and misses it like bruhhhh. Most talented person I’ve heard of. Also she was 18 in this!

Diana herself asked her fans to tone it down a bit in the comments and show more respect to other artists, but fan love is fan love - what are you gonna do? :) I think what makes Diana truly spectacular is not so much her fantastic vocal ability, but that indescribable power to hypnotize the listener, to cast a spell, to look right into your soul. Some say her voice has a healing power and I can certainly relate to that. That is a rare gift.
I love technical analyses like Peter's but am also a great fan of reactors like Tré McLeod, who picks up on magic. :)

They said the energy was unbelievable they had goose bumps and their hair was standing up. They asked her to sing it agian. She did and they all agreed she sang it better the second time. The man that standing up with hands on his face is a famous opera singer his wife is an opera diva.

    At the
age of about 13 she auditioned on a show for children and
sang/yodeled. It is called 'Jodel Time'...really
extraordinary...the audience absolutely loved her but the judges
didn't turn their chairs around, even though they were obviously
fascinated by her voice. They asked her to sing something else
and she sang a French song acapella...but she was not chosen.
What did she do? As the audience cheered her, she went up and
gave the judges a hug! Completely captivating performer, even at
    the age of 13!
    And
also you could do 'Wicked Game' and 'Rechenka' both at the age
of about 15 in singing contests... utterly spectacular voice!
Also she sings a beautiful and uplifting 'Into the Sky!' Enjoyed
your comments on her....the background is as extraordinary as
the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far
northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where
she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she
was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage
therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the
first to recognize something special in this little girl, and
eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons
because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak
without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in
local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon
after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for
disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local
competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started
showing up on RUclips. Two months ago, at the age of 18, her
first performance during a new Russian television competition
with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has
garnered hundreds of RUclips 'reaction' videos, and millions of
viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take
on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has
been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it
highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from
low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate
interpretation. Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian,
English and French. She has also sung in other languages
including Spanish, German and Arabic. A viewer: 'At the age of 5
she couldn't speak her own language, and now she is this angelic
singer that the world will soon discover! How can one watch her
    and still doubt past lives?'

Yes yes yes!!! You can hear that lower octave coming from her!! I have heard other Contraltos, but none have that higher octave voice over the lower octave(or vice versa). Just astounding how she is able to layer one octave over(or beneath)the other AT THE SAME TIME!!!
