Peter, Diana Ankudinova was 14 when she first sang Dernière Danse on February 10 2018 during her first appearance on a talent show for disadvantaged teens called You Are Super. Diana’s voice, for a 14 year old was a truly unique instrument with an unusual timber, and colors that it's hard to describe. A little history, in 2017 previous year, at age 13, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3, to a high of A5. Now back to this comptetion in 2018. For a girl of 14 to have a voice with this kind of musicality, vocal control, and stage presence is truly amazing! Some have said Diana looks a little scared, which would be understandable for someone this young to experience a little “stage fright”, but Diana Ankudinova was not scared, she was getting into a character, and you can see by looking at her face she is there, she has slipped into and assumed the character in that song. She is no longer just singing a song, she is communicating. Diana is feeling the emotions of this character and communicating those feelings and emotions to the audience. Diana Ankudinova is not afraid or intimidated at all, she is a true stage animal. Hi Peter, Diana has spoken, quite a lot, about these contest performances. Yes, there was a lot of coaching. She said that each contestant had a full week to work on every performance. She also said that she rehearsed each sound, and movement, until she could do the performances from muscle memory. This allowed her to put her full concentration into putting the emotion into the performances. I wish that you had commented on the gorgeous low note that Diana reached. Also, I would have liked to hear you comment on her maturity. At the ending, the final buzzers are hit, the entire studio is standing and cheering, yet Diana continues the performance until its conclusion. Regardless of those two minor points, thanks! You do a great job of making technical analysis accessible to this ordinary person.

With this performance, she won the hearts of the judges. With the next one, Rechenka, she fully convinced them of her talent. It is an amazing, daring performance, where she lets loose all the vocal tricks that her voice and her training allowed her to do, and that was already way more than seasoned singers usually do. At the time that NTV was blocked from RUclips, this particular performance was on RUclips in two versions. One was this version with the song only. The second video was the song plus the comments of the judges. On March 11, 2022, the two versions of the video on RUclips together had more than 150 million views, and all of Diana's performances of this song on RUclips had about 300 million views. The entire show is still up on the NTV web site in high definition, although it is only in Russian.
Diana's performances are also uploaded elsewhere. There are excellent English subtitles by Andrey M.. He has also translated some of Diana's official videos.
NTV was not blocked it was demonetized, then they turned all their videos to private in response. This video alone had 147 million views on NTV and if you put together all her performances on that channel then it was about 700 million views lost...

Wow, some really unique and amazing voice, I had to check immediately your analysis of her singing 'Can't Help Falling In Love' too, what she pulls out there is really incredible. But I think its also interesting how some people can sing in a way that it would fit the opposite sex much more, she could be easily mistaken for a man with those low, dark vocals. Similarly I was much more drawn to Corvyx when I found out he's actually a man, couldn't believe that at first... I can't understand how he doesn't have just as manny followers on YT, his vocals are so amazing too.
Apparently sounding androgynous in the lower range is how you can tell she’s a contralto. A lot of women can hit those low notes, but not with the kind of weight that Diana carries down there. It’s super interesting
@@hearingninjaEven more surprising is her ability to sound lower than she actually sings, this has tricked me many times and I can not accurately pinpoint her lower register just by ear alone especially if there are other sounds in the mix.
These voices always fascinated me, go hear "late november" by Pavlov's dog or "the speed of the beat of my heart" by horse Mcdonald and tell me which is the male and which is the female.

I'm a huge Diana fan, obviously. I just love her voice and skill, her range is amazing, but the high notes in ''The Day You...'' knocked me out of my socks! I knew she could go pretty high, but so high and with such a clarity..... And it is not the only thing that I like about this song. It is a great song no matter which side are you looking from. She never seases to amaze me. That's the quality of a true artist.
I'm afraid that her music producer is clipping her wings. I've listened to some of her new music and it seems to avoid her lower register. A lot. I get the impression it's too unusual for mainstream and they want to just sell, sell, sell her, so they're not letting her utilize or maximize her lower register talents. It made me rather sad to hear. All the pop stars are singing high notes. How many times do we have to listen to Whitney Houston or Celine Dion? Diana has such an incredibly vibrant and unique voice that only she can create, and it's been stifled and suppressed to market her. Compare this to when she first performed.

This was her first performance on the show You Are Super! but she was on at least one show before that, The Voice Kids Russia, where she sang “Yodel Time.” I understand that caused some controversy because no one hit their button for her.
And the eventual winner just happened to be the daughter of a rich and famous celebrity... Fun fact: Diana's one performance achieved ten times the views, on RUclips, of the total of all four performances of the eventual winner.

I believe she auditioned for "The Voice: Kids" when she was slightly younger performing a song that highlighted her yodeling ability. The judges must have been on drugs because they didn't turn around for her. Perhaps they didn't know what to do with someone who can yodel. I bet they are kicking themselves now.
That show was staged as it was revealed later, by the time Diana sang the two male judges had already filled their list of kids they would coach and the only one who had a spot was the female but since it was staged she already had a "target" and she could not turn for Diana. Of course every one was enraged when that was revealed and the audience boycotted the show.

She sang the full version of Derniere Danse atc14, and ever since, even now at age of 20. Maybe a cool video idea to compare her current performance wuth fuller, more developed voice and while it was astonishing at 14, better than many adult singer, she developed her singing technique even further. Peter she did a blind audition for The Voice Kids Russia at 13. she sang the song 'Yodel Time' and got no one to turn because the judges didn't know if she could sing a regular song!!!! Can you believe those idiots?!!!! I'm still steaming my chili about that one. They have her sing another song and she peels off 'Non, je ne regrette rien' then the judges try to pass it off that if they only knew. 'The idiots' think that yodeling is so easy that just anybody can sing without having to know how to sing anything else!!!! Here is the link to that performance and you will see the grace and understanding Diana exhibited towards these empty-headed phonies. Anyway 'The Idiots' (my name for the judges here on out) tried to make it seem that they couldn't tell how good a singer Diana was from hearing The Yodel Song, like it was some great stretch to work out that she could actually sing well enough to be on the show. As you can tell I'm not quite over this. In the end, I guess Diana is getting the last laugh. I think it would be funny to try and set up an appearance on a show each one of those Idiots was having, then go on stage and politely withdraw from the appearance saying, "I'm sorry but I am not sure if I can sing well enough to be on your show?!!" then walk off the stage. The middle lady at least apologized and invited Diana to sing in one of her concerts there is a video of that event on Diana, it is one of her most viewed videos. That years "the voice kids" was revealed to be staged after all, the audience got enraged and the show is still being boycotted to this day so i hope that makes you feel a little better.

Actually Diana was 15 years-old in this performance, which was her first performance on the TV show "You Are Super" for ķids who had spent time in orphanage. She won. Her first audition for this show was at age 14 and the song was "Rechenka " which means little river. A Russian folk song about an orphaned girl getting married who goes to the river to ask the spirit of her mother to bless her. I really strongly recommend your watching the version on the same show. A real performance!!
Hi, None of Diana's broadcast performances, for this show, were "auditions". This was her first appearance, at age fourteen, as a contestant on the show. "It's a Man's World" was second, "Rechenka" was third. and "Tomorrow is a Lie" was fourth. These were all at the age of fourteen. For Diana's second season of appearances (the third season of the show), she performed "Blizzard", "Wicked Game", and "Human", in that order. At that time Diana was fifteen years old.
This is not her first public appearance she already had won many vocal competitions nationally and internationally this was not even her first TV appearance since she auditioned for "the voice kids" a year before (no one turned on her because the competition was staged), this was her first appearance on this show specifically, this performance was indeed the one that put her on the map though. Diana has spoken, quite a lot, about these contest performances. Yes, there was a lot of coaching. She said that each contestant had a full week to work on every performance. She also said that she rehearsed each sound, and movement, until she could do the performances from muscle memory. This allowed her to put her full concentration into putting the emotion into the performances.
I wish that you had commented on the gorgeous low note that Diana reached. Also, I would have liked to hear you comment on her maturity. At the ending, the final buzzers are hit, the entire studio is standing and cheering, yet Diana continues the performance until its conclusion.
Regardless of those two minor points, thanks! You do a great job of making technical analysis accessible to this ordinary person.

*This is an honest analysis of the vocals of a 14 year old school girl by a pro opera singer!* Vocal teachers have already worked with Diana at this age. She also attended a children's music school and a theater studio. Diana participated in children's music competitions. But she was not *a professional singer* (especially an opera singer)! And an adult opera singer, makes a serious analysis of the first steps of a teenage girl in the world of music! *It's curious!* 🙃
This isn’t an audition actually, this was the first episode of a show called “You’re Super!” back in 2018 (Diana also participated in the 2019 season, that’s when she performed Wicked Game)
This performance went hella viral and the original video got something like 100 million views (?) before being taken down, it still resurfaces every couple of months on TikTok, Instagram, etc…the coolest thing to me about Diana is that she keeps raising the bar for herself higher and higher, in the nearly 6 years since this performance she just gets better and better!

At the time that NTV was blocked from RUclips, this particular performance was on RUclips in two versions. One was this version with the song only. The second video was the song plus the comments of the judges. On March 11, 2022, the two versions of the video on RUclips together had more than 150 million views, and all of Diana's performances of this song on RUclips had about 300 million views. The entire show is still up on the NTV web site in high definition, although it is only in Russian.
Diana's performances are also uploaded elsewhere. There are excellent English subtitles by Andrey M.. He has also translated some of Diana's official videos.
NTV was not blocked it was demonetized, then they turned all their videos to private in response.
This video alone had 147 million views on NTV and if you put together all her performances on that channel then it was about 700 million views lost...

Peter you have to react to Diana's cover of California Dreaming, she hits some really high notes. I'd love your professional opinion on what octave she reaches, I think it's the highest note I've heard her sing. Also her rendition is other worldly. Cheers.

Wow, some really unique and amazing voice, I had to check immediately your analysis of her singing 'Can't Help Falling In Love' too, what she pulls out there is really incredible. But I think its also interesting how some people can sing in a way that it would fit the opposite sex much more, she could be easily mistaken for a man with those low, dark vocals. Similarly I was much more drawn to Corvyx when I found out he's actually a man, couldn't believe that at first... I can't understand how he doesn't have just as manny followers on YT, his vocals are so amazing too.
Apparently sounding androgynous in the lower range is how you can tell she’s a contralto. A lot of women can hit those low notes, but not with the kind of weight that Diana carries down there. It’s super interesting
@@hearingninjaEven more surprising is her ability to sound lower than she actually sings, this has tricked me many times and I can not accurately pinpoint her lower register just by ear alone especially if there are other sounds in the mix.
These voices always fascinated me, go hear "late november" by Pavlov's dog or "the speed of the beat of my heart" by horse Mcdonald and tell me which is the male and which is the female.

I'm a huge Diana fan, obviously. I just love her voice and skill, her range is amazing, but the high notes in ''The Day You...'' knocked me out of my socks! I knew she could go pretty high, but so high and with such a clarity..... And it is not the only thing that I like about this song. It is a great song no matter which side are you looking from.
She never seases to amaze me. That's the quality of a true artist.
I'm afraid that her music producer is clipping her wings. I've listened to some of her new music and it seems to avoid her lower register. A lot. I get the impression it's too unusual for mainstream and they want to just sell, sell, sell her, so they're not letting her utilize or maximize her lower register talents. It made me rather sad to hear. All the pop stars are singing high notes. How many times do we have to listen to Whitney Houston or Celine Dion? Diana has such an incredibly vibrant and unique voice that only she can create, and it's been stifled and suppressed to market her. Compare this to when she first performed.

In the end, I think that we must stand by and hope that she doesn't turn away from the great artist that she is and that we want her to remain.

I believe she auditioned for "The Voice: Kids" when she was slightly younger performing a song that highlighted her yodeling ability. The judges must have been on drugs because they didn't turn around for her. Perhaps they didn't know what to do with someone who can yodel. I bet they are kicking themselves now.
That show was staged as it was revealed later, by the time Diana sang the two male judges had already filled their list of kids they would coach and the only one who had a spot was the female but since it was staged she already had a "target" and she could not turn for Diana.
Of course every one was enraged when that was revealed and the audience boycotted the show.

Maybe a cool video idea to compare her current performance wuth fuller, more developed voice and while it was astonishing at 14, better than many adult singer, she developed her singing technique even further.

Peter she did a blind audition for The Voice Kids Russia at 13. she sang the song 'Yodel Time' and got no one to turn because the judges didn't know if she could sing a regular song!!!! Can you believe those idiots?!!!! I'm still steaming my chili about that one. They have her sing another song and she peels off 'Non, je ne regrette rien' then the judges try to pass it off that if they only knew. 'The idiots' think that yodeling is so easy that just anybody can sing without having to know how to sing anything else!!!! Here is the link to that performance and you will see the grace and understanding Diana exhibited towards these empty-headed phonies. Anyway 'The Idiots' (my name for the judges here on out) tried to make it seem that they couldn't tell how good a singer Diana was from hearing The Yodel Song, like it was some great stretch to work out that she could actually sing well enough to be on the show. As you can tell I'm not quite over this. In the end, I guess Diana is getting the last laugh. I think it would be funny to try and set up an appearance on a show each one of those Idiots was having, then go on stage and politely withdraw from the appearance saying, "I'm sorry but I am not sure if I can sing well enough to be on your show?!!" then walk off the stage. That would be perfect, but as stupid as those 'Idiots' were they probably wouldn't get the joke.

The middle lady at least apologized and invited Diana to sing in one of her concerts there is a video of that event on Diana, it is one of her most viewed videos.

Cool reaction. This was not Diana's first public appearance though. A year earlier she appeared on The Voice Kids but did not progress when the judges stupidly did not recognize her tremendous yodelling ability. That caused a minor scandal. But all this is moot. Diana has been singing publicly in concerts since age 5. The stage is her home.

Actually Diana was 15 years-old in this performance, which was her first performance on the TV show "You Are Super" for ķids who had spent time in orphanage. She won. Her first audition for this show was at age 14 and the song was "Rechenka " which means little river. A Russian folk song about an orphaned girl getting married who goes to the river to ask the spirit of her mother to bless her. I really strongly recommend your watching the version on the same show. A real performance!!

None of Diana's broadcast performances, for this show, were "auditions". This was her first appearance, at age fourteen, as a contestant on the show. "It's a Man's World" was second, "Rechenka" was third. and "Tomorrow is a Lie" was fourth. These were all at the age of fourteen.
For Diana's second season of appearances (the third season of the show), she performed "Blizzard", "Wicked Game", and "Human", in that order. At that time Diana was fifteen years old.

This is not her first public appearance she already had won many vocal competitions nationally and internationally this was not even her first TV appearance since she auditioned for "the voice kids" a year before (no one turned on her because the competition was staged), this was her first appearance on this show specifically, this performance was indeed the one that put her on the map though.
Since you know her lows time to get familiar with her highs, you should listen to her latest song called "The day you...".
