Ex-North Bay Volvo WX64 Heil 7000!

  • Here’s a truck I am really excited to share with you all. Just 2 years ago North Bay ran many older units throughout Sonoma and Marin counties. The concentration of these Volvo 7000s, however, was from the Petaluma yard, with other cool (some even ex-WMX) spares in other yards. Back when I used to visit my grandparents in Ukiah, I would usually stop along the way home and film some North Bay trucks (as some of you may remember.) Come 2018 and North Bay was bought out by Recology, not shockingly as North Bay was having a plethora of issues internally in the company - not to mention a fleet of old, crusty trucks no longer complying with CARB. North Bay had always caught my eye - from the extremely diverse cart variety in their service areas to just their unique fleet in general. I had always wanted to get plenty of footage of their trucks but unfortunately tightly scheduled road trips with the family did not always allow that. So as you can probably imagine, I was disappointed to hear they were bought out by Recology as most of their old trucks would be scrapped.
Fast forward to July of this summer and as I was driving back up to Northern CA one afternoon to visit my girlfriend, I saw this truck broken down on the side of the 101. Both shocked to see that Recology was actually still running it, and disappointed to see that it was probably on its last legs and no doubt one of those crappy spares, I still searched for it nearly all day for the next 2 days but to no avail. I eventually gave up and left empty handed in terms of what I had really wanted to find.
One month later, I visited my girlfriend again and had another 2 days all to myself to film while she was at work. I tried filming mainly in Novato which is where I assumed this truck would be as a spare on green waste. That Friday however, I met up with Mendocino Refuse in Rohnert Park to find some newer CNG Recology branded trucks. Later on in the afternoon we headed to the Petaluma route in hopes of getting more video of the ex North Bay Peterbilt 320/ split Labries. I thought that there was a small chance of seeing a 7000 running as a spare, but didn't get my hopes up. After about 20 minutes of filming, I get word that a 7000 is running just a few streets over. Shocked, I rush over to see the rusted tailgate of this truck and nearly crapped my pants when I saw it. Not only was I not expecting to ever see this truck running again (as according to another driver they are expediting the replacement of all the rebranded North Bay trucks in the Petaluma yard) but I certainly was not expecting to see it on recycling. When North Bay ran these, they always collected greenwaste so I believe this is the first footage of one dumping recycling.
I cannot believe how my luck turned out on this trip - it was just another crazy filming experience to go on the record. I am so happy to have gotten footage of an old North Bay truck one last time, as it's likely I won't be back in NorCal for awhile. Thanks a ton to the driver for letting us follow along and film! I hope you guys all enjoy the history and rarity of this truck as much as I do!

Great video sir! I miss those squeaks the Volvo trucks make. Definitely brought back some Phoenix nostalgia. The driver looked really chill, also. Crazy to see a lot of broken lids. Keep it up!!

Just love these classic 7000s with 32/33 yard bodies, they are so much better than the 28 yarders haha. Great job!

Man what a day that was! I honestly thought he was gonna drop that 32 Otto. Watching this truck on RUclips does nothing compared to filming it. Glad tho we were able to find it. Hopefully next time we can get you a Skunk truck!

Man this one's a classic! Glad this one's still around. Got a nice sound to her! Do you know if Recology still run the ex North Bay 05 Autocar 7000's (9017, 9018, 9020, 9021, and 9022)? I'm pretty sure 9019 isn't around anymore because it was in a wreck. I wonder if any of the 05 Autocar 7000's are running out of the Novato yard? Would be awesome if I could follow one on route sometime!

Nice find! Forgot they took over a GreenWaste contract up there haha. That's awesome how you managed to track this truck down! Honestly surprised that they're still alive. The white stripe on the body sure was a nice touch. Safe to say they won't be doing a roll out over here anytime soon? I forget but pretty sure it was just Santa Rosa that got a roll out after the buy out right? Lol this is way cooler than that ACX New Way across the street at 7:49! Also have to add that I'm glad you posted this because it sure brought back memories of those old ribbed North Bay 7000s that that one guy used to film up there. Going to definitely miss the old North Bay days in comparison to Recology. Great vid!

Thank you! The white stripe sure gave the truck a more classic feel. I think they're replacing the cans very slowly unlike what happened in Santa Rosa. I definitely miss all that old NB equipment especially those ribbed 7ks. Wish there were some HD footage of those! Thanks again for the comment man!
