Dear Genius, You have the best and the most cost-effective video for replacing the garage door panels. I purchased the panel (bottom one) from Clopay through the local Home Depot and successfully replaced the damaged one with the new one. It has probably saved me a couple of hundred dollars from hiring a professional. BTW, my panel was $167 before the pandemic when I checked, but it was now $485. My wait of three years cost me about $300 more, which cannot be attributed to inflation. Anyway, I wanted to leave this note and thank the Genius again.
I was considering replacing my wooden garage doors for around 5K because bottom panels were rotted/damaged. After watching your video I'm inspired to take the wood panels off and try to replace or repair the rotten sections with plywood. Thanks for video.
I have seen where a customer has fully restored their old '80s wood doors. It's very possible to do. However, be very very careful with the bottom bracket that the cable attaches to. The springs are nothing to mess with. So do some research and you'll be just fine. Thanks for the awesome comment!
You Rock Richard ! Yours is the only video on RUclips that shows us DIY'ers to use the torsion rods to backwind the cables. All other videos are from pros using cable pullers/come-alongs. Question: I've used the tension rods once before to wind-up a new spring. In that case I would rest the rods on the wood framing overhead. In the application is it safe to rest the tension rod on the garage door for that long while doing the repair? It's not too much force? Thanks again man!
Hey man I really appreciate the awesome feedback! Yes, resting the bar across the top panel is okay. If you're afraid of denting the panel, stick a chuck of 2x4 under the end of the bar. Rest against it. Again, thanks for the comment. 👊🏼
Other than the camera losing the shot once in a while it was a pretty good video. Just enough commentary to understand without too much blah blah blah. Haha. Now I can do mine. Thanks!
I got the panels from a local garage door supplier. Lucky enough to live in a city that has that option. That video I made pre-pandemic. So I paid less than $150 a panel. Can't remember the exact cost. You're right. Post pandemic you'll pay close to double.
@@garagedoorgenius HA....The Haas 2580 9' panel is 450 bucks, for just one panel! landlord said I could do some body work to fix it up instead, how do they get the embossed stucco pattern back after they fill in the ding with bodyfiller?

Hey I appreciate the feedback! 👍🏼 If you don't know the brand, then look and see if it's a tongue and groove or shiplap. Some manufacturers are brand specific. Meaning it may look like a tongue and groove but fits weird. Depending on where you live there are garage door wholesalers. You could get all the information you can, pictures help. And then take a drive by there and see what you can find. I got these panels from a local distributor. Plus this is what I do for a living so I know where to get things.
Thanks bro! The funny thing about this video, it's like 2-3 years old. I forgot about it and didn't upload it at the time. I found it when I had to go through all my videos. Lol
I am going to replace all 4 panels on both of my 8x7 flush panel garage doors. Do you recommend raising it up and following the same procedure, starting from the top or bottom first? Thanks!
So are you loosening spring tension or increasing it when you crank it upwards like that? I need to take out the bottom panel of a door that has two springs, one on each side of center. So can I do what you did one spring at a time, raising up the door to get that bottom panel off?
I want to replace all 4 panels, would the continued sequence go the same, would the vice grip stops be different at the 3rd and 4th windows panels, are there any differences for removing and replacing these 3and 4 as well?????
@@barrykuhnke4803 in your case I would just unwind the spring. Get the tension completely off. Change out the panels. Then use this video to reset the cables and wind the spring. 👍🏼
I would find a local garage door dealer/company. Most places will sell you what you need. Check local hardware stores also. Have the size length and width of the panel, color, tongue and groove or shiplap.
Can you refer me to a trusted garage door repair guy in Plano or Frisco or Collin County Texas area. Need 2 top panels and one bottom panel replaced. i am assuming just checking the 2 doors over as well.
Double torsion or single torsion. It doesn't matter. Once you start back winding the spring, whichever one you choose, the door will just start dropping.
