This suit is one that works in the comics and mostly works in animation, but the more I think about an older guy wearing a sleeveless purple body suit with opera gloves and a cape in physical form, the less intimidating it gets. It is good that Magneto has a distinctly different look during his “I’m going to try things from Charles’ perspective” phase
Don't care for this look for Magneto, but I do have to say this is probably one of their best "standard" figures in a minute. The better sized and positioned shoulders, the clean split arm, and the skinnier waist make him look so much better on the shelf than what they usually put out. Still has lots of tiny areas that could and should be improved, though
Thanks for the review on this one Anthony. Question #1 - I prefer the OG Magneto; Question #2 - I want the action figures I collect best represent the character from the comic books. They don't look wimpy in the comic books. Hasbro ML has a tendency to make action figures look very wimpy. I would like a bigger chest over butterfly joints for comic book figures.
Proportions wise, they're finally moving in a better direction with the vulcan buck, but there's still progress to be made. I think the Vulcan shoulders work pretty well on the smaller Spidey/Sunfire bucks actually, and the Vulcan torso works for even larger shoulders.
I love this Magneto. I have both versions of the '97 series that Hasbro has done, for a hardcore fan like me, it's a must to have both and swap the heads.
I think butterflies are needed when the characters would need that, but I would like a big chest for these more powerful one. Can butterflies and a large chest be used? I don’t mind the cutouts.
Never been a fan of this one or the headmaster outfit but I think it would be easy enough to make one that appealing just swap the white out for blue or red and make the collar less Draculaly. His whole forced return into a villain in the comics was pretty bad but it did give us two things Jim Lee making him look like a god in his classic look and that comic where he takes down Red Skull
9:53 Hmm, I think I met a hasbro employee from Venus, and they said they didn't have the time to study human anatomy for the time crunch and the earthly language barrier, so yes aliens from other planets work in Hasbro and in MacFarlane Toys.
Maybe I'm crazy but I actually think this is one of the best looking figures they've put out, imo. Amazing head sculpt, perfect skin tone, and, this is the big one, the shoulders, traps, quads and waist proportions make it look like an ACTUAL human being. Like, they actually did it, ML made a normal looking male body, I'm kind of astonished. I don't see the build complaints, he's about as jacked as this version of Magneto ought to be. In fact, I like a lot of things about this Magneto more than the MAFEX Jim Lee Magneto. For some reason, everyone likes to make that version of Magneto undersized. This one is the perfect height. Shame it's for a costume that probably no one is particularly attached to, but if the classic Magneto had had these proportions I wouldn't have even needed to buy the MAFEX.
The neck and chest are still a bit weird tho. But I do agree it’s probably the best magneto figure we have mostly because of the skin tone and face sculpts.
Great review. I'm always here for your merciless but fair criticisms of lazy design decisions. I believe there's definitely passion going into these toys but obvious big business cost-cutting too. I have pretty low expectation for Hasbro these days (well, not their Joes, I love them) but I think both headsculpts here are SO GOOD, especially in capturing the character as portrayed on the show. And that's it, if you loved the new show and how Magneto is on the show (and I do) and want a figure that captures that, this definitely delivers. It's no Mafex Magneto but they're unlikely to make a version in this costume and even if they did, I dunno that I'd wanna drop 200 bucks on it.
Still can’t believe shartimus thinks the disc hinge is the best neck articulation. I don’t think he’s handled a figure with a great double ball peg neck.
Great video. I wish hasbro would get rid of the swivel cut waist. The kids toy comment is accurate and it’s my biggest gripe with marvel legends in general. None of the line not even the mcu figures give me an adult collectible feel
Don't phrase it like that because I do believe Hasbro reads our comments and that's pretty much what they have been doing lately: straight up getting rid of the waist swivel instead of making it a ball jointed one, lol.
@@tjfields123 I believe they don't update the line on purpose so they can keep re-releasing the same characters but with slight upgrades. The Joes are proof that they can make better stuff.
I'm not a fan of this look for Mags. The head sculpts look good and the bigger shoulders are welcome but the rest isn't any great shakes. I keep banging on about Jada and their Street Fighter figs; but until Hasbro can match them I'll skipmost of their Legends figures.
I don't like this costume and I don't like wimpy figures. Cable is the most-recent figure I've bought and he's a great example of what I want from MLs (minus the goofy NERF guns). Really digging how they did the skin plastic on the biceps here. The less painted flesh the better.
Q of the Day 1: It’s an interesting look for Magneto from a “snapshot in time” perspective, but I prefer the classic red and purple look over the long haul. Q of the Day 2: I never really thought of the figures as looking wimpy. In my case, ignorance may be bliss, because I’m not a student of anatomy, and my powers of observation leave something to be desired. If you point something out to me, I can see it, but left to my own devices, I might miss it completely. I’m more bothered by things like incorrect costume details or color schemes. I would be a terrible action figure reviewer. 😂 Q of the Day 3: I don’t do a lot of extreme posing, and I’m not a photographer, so I could live without the butterfly joints.
QotD 1: The opera gloves are a little much… but its fine all in all. QotD 2: Yeah. For a line of superheroes… they just look like kinda fit normal people…
QotD 3: Tbh Ive yet to see a butterfly joint on any figure that I liked. Ive never understood why people get all pissy about pinned joints but are totally fine with massive chunks of chest muscles missing to get an extra 1/8th of a degree of movement.
The hasbro Marvel legends team doesn't care about good figures. They care about pumping out 100+ figures a year instead of giving us quality figures people would be happy with. People ars getting excited about the man thing figure, but most of it is just reuse from the BAF.
Oh boy thats why it has that terrible ab crunch haha. And its 40$ too its insane. As a curiosity, did you get the No Way Home Green Goblin? That was 60 i believe but it should ve been 45 ish.
The new things added are pretty good on this guy but i'm tired of the vulcan body with its ab crunch/ waist swivel and weak proportions. I'll only be interested in legends again when they evolve to a body like fei long.
I’m not crazy about this look for Magneto, it’s less supervillain and more club scene, with the sleeveless shirt, the elbow length gloves and the big boots, blouses win.
Obviously I'm referring to when the joints are engineered correctly. Hasbro being terrible doesn't mean the joints are the right thing to use. They just need to be used correctly.
It appears that we won't have to worry about Marvel Legends pretty soon. It seems unlikely that Hasbro will re-new the license to make Marvel or Star Wars action figures. Hasbro and Disney are both having problems.
Not the biggest fan of this look for Magneto. I gotta say though; even with the size comparisons, I was still caught off guard by how sizeable the figure is in person. I don’t really collect marvel legends, so I was still surprised
He is the Magnificent Mangled Midtorso Magenta! He can break his back with ease without care! Villains beware or you too may have to gaze upon his contorted spine.
Ain't nobody like that look for Magento... really it's those arm sleeves that kill it. Maybe if he had complete arm sleeves. Question #2 is just a false premise, ML has plenty of muscular bucks, in a variety of sizes, just like the comics.
Hear me out. If you watched the "X-Men 97" episodes...this Magneto is perfect and represents his cartoon avatar well. The scuplt, the colors, the quality of the whole design is really good... But, this is a very unfamiliar and one of the strangest outfits of Magneto!
My marvel legends have been handed to my kid. It's not worth it anymore, except for one or two personal favourites. It's sad they're not trying anymore
I won’t lie at first I wasn’t a fan of the outfit by I warmed up to it, not my preferred look for him. And of course the wimpy look the figures have is dreadful.
I love the 97 series but I hated the gay look for magnus.... Could you imagine Sir Ian mckellan or the new guy who plays magneto in the recent xmen movies wear this outfit ? Would never work

Hasbro is capitalizing on the recent crocs wearing trend.
They had all of them at Gamestop and Walmart in San Antonio. The design is okay, but it looks like he has heavy eyeliner in the cartoon
