- I went into today thinking this was going to be a Clean and Organize video and then it turned into a full on Declutter Day Video! A lot of stuff has accrued over time and I need to get back to maintenance decluttering so my house doesn’t feel overwhelmed by stuff and can be easier to clean and maintain going forward. LABELS!!!! Pro organizer here. Make labels with words and pictures. That is the only way you can expect them to put things away correctly.
My daughters kindergarten teacher does that. I do it now as well!
You should put pictures of what goes in each fabric bin on the outside of them. That way the kids can easily know where to put things when they clean up.
Hey Mai, don't forget to ask your kiddo's preschool if they need any of those books. Alot of the books in my PreK class come from donations from parents whose children have outgrown books!
I love the "bombshelter" with the little light. That's so cute. Great video. Motivating!
What I do if I have extra gifts is put them in a bin and use them as my "just incase" gifts. As in just incase I can't get around to getting a gift for someone or someone buys my daughter a gift, I can be like "oh we have you one too". Helped a ton this Christmas, and I buy all year long.
If you can add picture labels with the words to the toy storage it would probably help a lot (especially the piece toys!) But even the cube bins if you want them to stay more organized. Kids tend to be visual, and of course less detail oriented... I think you are winning with the toys being off the floor! Great work on the consistency and expectations! It could also have been just pure over stimulation from so many piece toys that kept them from feeling that their space was within their control. Anyways, rambling but I love your videos so much! I hope picture labels might be an option! :)
I second this Mai. Break out that Cricut and put some picture labels on the bins. I feel like maybe the boys shoved stuff in the kitchen unit because they weren't sure where to put it
Yes I totally agree with this! I used to teach kinder and we have picture and word labels on everything so the kids that couldn’t read could still put items away by the photos!
My kids are 8 &10 and I kept the teeth aren’t made for biting board book- the whole corner was chewed off by my youngest. Still funny as hell and kept in the memory bin.
Decluttering is so rewarding and a feeling of emptiness that you have more space
For your son who gets car sick, keep a small bucket in the back of the car. Easiest clean up option!
Love spending time with you... it's so interesting to see how you have gone from overwhelmed with stuff to more pleased with the things you are keeping and using. It's like a weight has been lifted!
Why are de-cluttering videos so satisfying? lol!
I emptied my dresser a few years back and gave it back to my Mom. I also keep my pj's, underwear, etc in a rolling plastic cart with 3 drawers (I used to keep my crafts in these). Now all of my clothes are in my closet and it frees up so much space in my room!
So satisfying! I love doing toy rotation...my kiddo gets so excited about the "new" toys. Also I was cracking up about the fart gun 😅😅

@@shaysplace4354 Hi! I store them in clear containers in his closet. The big toys go on a shelf. I like the clear containers because I can see what's in there and I can just throw them in whatever container.
so for my kids (5,4,2 and 5M)
I explained to them how the house is like a big puzzle and everything has it’s spot
they’re honestly impressive with how they can put everything back in order now that it has registered in their little brains
and obvi the 5M old is excluded 😂 and the 2yr old is 3 next month so she doesn’t get passes anymore either haha

I hate the $1.25 increase! I’m more careful of what I buy there now. But who I really feel bad for is all of the people who rely on DT for food. I wish they had at least left their food at $1.

I have cubes for toy storage and I noticed that my kids clean up easier when the bins are half the height of the cube shelf so they can see what’s inside. I prefer the full bin for the esthetic, but it is so much easier when I say “time to tidy!”
Every time I did a big toy purge like this my kids would play for DAYSSSSS.
I don't even have kids but I love it! Very motivating. But how many times can we say piece toys lol

Could you put on item on like a keyring or similar and attach to the pull handle - such as a magna tile, duplo, track, etc. They can match things visually. That's what we do in Primary school

I LOVED the bomb shelter in the cabinet.
I’m in the UK and Poundland has also put their prices up, a lot is £1.25 and others £3-5!! there are still some things at £1 but the good stuff is extra now!

There are some items worth the $1.25. Refill Soap containers, turkey bacon, some of the kitchen items, cards, sometimes food(not the canned vegetables), riced cauliflower, & when they have special items.
Totally satisfying!!! 💜💜
I got the ikea toy bin organizer for my two youngest that I love there toys they have managed to keep all there different toys together in each bin

Your bins need some sort of visual labels! I’m an early childhood teacher and pictures on bins have been so important in keeping toys cleaned up.

Water hyacinth is my favourite its smells lovely has stretch yet super durable and doesnt shed like some wicker/grass etc baskets.

I live in a suburb of Denver Colorado and I was at the Dollar Tree yesterday. Everything was still $1.00 but I think with how much everything has gone up. If everything went to 1.25, I'd be ok with that. It's always been my opinion that if you don't want kids to dump their stuff into a bin or toy box then don't have a bin or toy box available for them.

I also have shoe storage like yours. We all put our shoes away as soon as we come in. Well, most of the time. Sometimes hubby keeps his by the back door. He goes into the garden a lot, and he has crocs. He should use them! We have a straw laundry basket which we use for garden shoes like when putting the rubbish out.

In Australia we had a shop called “the $2 shop”. It was great until prices slowly increase so much it was $5, $10, $20. They just became more and more expensive and just became a joke as the $2 shop.
You have some of the most motivating decluttering content on RUclips! Maybe it would be helpful for your sanity to reduce one of the cube shelves and only have one. I have a 19 month old and a little one on the way and if I didn't rotate I would go insane. I do Montessori so I would only do one toy or activity per cube but you are fantastic!

Target has bins in the bathroom section by Brighthouse. I replaced the fabric bins my daughter destroyed in her toy organizer with them, and they are excellent. Not quite as tall as the fabric cubes, but still hold the bigger chunky toys without issue. And they’re durable. I’m talking she dumps them out and stands on them like a step stool. Best part, they’re $5 and $7 depending on size. I would link, but idk if RUclips would let me.
If Dollar Tree didn’t raise their prices, they’d have to start selling cheaper crap for $1. I’d rather pay a little more for better quality stuff.

That is A LOT of toys!!! I know you keep piece toys in the attic but maybe put more toys away and rotate them so it’s less to clean. The less they have- the less mess. Thats just a lot. Plus teaches them to use more imagination with less.

We have the same thing here in the UK England with "Poundland". Hardly anything is £1. I bought a cheap phone cable for £1 which broke after a few months. I picked up the exact same one (thinking I know it fits) and the cost was £1.50. 50% increase with no price labels in the store this is how you get caught out if you buy a handful of items. Grrrrr

That Board you were eyeing for awhile a Walmart, I purchased about a month ago! I use it often. Me and some girlfriends have a charcuterie board party/night every other month! I needed to update mine to a bigger board! haha!

I always LOVE you declutter videos! A good idea for the play food wood be an open in that fits in the kitchen, right where it is to be used! Also , do they actually like the bristle blocks? My boys never played with theirs because you can't really DO anything with them! Somethings like all the small cars should be reduced to about half of only their favorites, lots less to have to deal with !

I rotated my kids toys too. To many toys just overwhelms them they don’t play with them. I love your logic! Where did you get that container you use for lint on your dryer?

It may help the organization in the bins if you label them with your cricut. I’ve seen pictures instead of words for toy bins.
You should get some moisture absorber for the attic. I recommend Damprid products:).

We have had the 3-5 dollar items for years. So far we haven’t gone up to 1.25, but I know it’s just around the corner. They probably have to raise prices because they can barely find employees
