My Newest Decluttering Video: ruclips.net/video/UFEsdTInmd4/видео.html Hey All! So glad so many of you are looking out for me and the planet! I've gotten several messages about what to do with my "trash" clothing that is too tattered or damaged to be donated to Goodwill. There are several stores that will take these old clothes and underwear to RECYCLE and give you a coupon to shop in their store after in return!! Here are some stores that help you recycle old textiles & what they give you in return (call ahead cause some are temporarily postponed due to covid): H&M: 15% off coupon in store North face: $10 off $100 purchase Zara: they just take it off your hands and it was you good deed of the day! Madewell: they will recycle old denim and you'll get a $20 off coupon for a new pair of jeans
Have you thought of a theme like ( favorite colors, i.e. red, white and blue)? ROY G BIV is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. ( "Clean House"- Patricia or tricia(sp.)) Linda Coopersmith was their organizer for closets( also works in Beverly Hills, doing same.) Makes you wonder if an organizer would be what makes you feel special( she with no ego, says!)
Hey Mai trying my hand on redoing my closet. Where did you get your cube storage bins with dividers. I looked through your posts to see if you added them but didn't see them. Could you shoot me the link?? Thanks! Love your videos! Keep up the great work!!
I stopped allowing myself to buy new hangers about a year ago and honestly it has been THE BEST deterrent for adding more crap to my wardrobe without removing something else first. If I break a hanger, it's one less clothing item I get to own.
Every time I watch a declutter video or a hoarders episode, I find something to trash or donate. Even as a minimalist. It is scary what we humans can collect.
I'm lucky to have had personal experience, my dad was a compulsive hoarder and when I died I had to sort his house out. Now I know I don't want to be ruled by stuff. I don't want to be a minimalist either, so to speak, but I never want to leave that level of junk for those I leave behind. We accumulate enough ordinarily, let alone that.
Same! Was pleasantly surprised that some fitted tshirt finally fit right (somehow the ribcage expansion made up for my narrow shoulders that let the shirt droop before) and others that frankly looked too...childish and petite were officially outgrown, and that much easier to let go. Don't forget pants. Hips did some interesting shifting after having kids too, lol.
Yess, after carrying 2 big boys in my hips, 8lb 14oz and 11lb, I actually have hips and look like a woman now lol I wouldn't even want to go back to my size 6 body even if I could!
That was a wonderful decluttering video. It’s amazing how little we really need to function and look good. I pared down my closet by 3/4 and go through regularly so it doesn’t build up again. I donate and recycle what I don’t want. You’re right to only keep what fits your lifestyle now. Color co-ordination helps to streamline more. Live with what you have for a while. Spread the hung items out more so you can see what you have and give them breathing space. Put a donate bin in your closet and put things in as soon as you decide don’t want them anymore. It’s a wonderful feeling to have a functional closet. Over 5 years, Marie Kondo and Alejandra Costello have been my inspirations as well as women like you. Many thanks.
Enjoyed your video !I agree nothing really sparks joy except keepsakes of kids stuff ...my clutter is from the ' scarcity / insecurity'mindset like everything must be saved just in case..its not really about 'joy'for me
Wow! Your closet is HUGE! I have a small house (built in 1957) and it has small closets. It made me laugh when you showed your after. My initial thought was "She still has so many tops!" and right after that thought passed through my brain you said, "I'm like starting to get worried, like what am I going to wear now?" It's all a matter of perspective. No judgement, btw! You do you. You did an amazing job of decluttering your closet and I'm so happy you had donate/recycle/sell/repurpose piles at the end. It does make me sad when people declutter and mostly throw things in the trash. Very well done. You should be proud. Also, thanks for highlighting the ways to recycle clothing. I didn't know several stores would take damaged clothes. I'm so happy to have learned that!
It was so refreshing to hear someone be honest about the, "no joy from things in your house" but your joy comes from "your peeps" and that you, "can't give up the calories to be a size 2!!" I love it! I am the same, I prefer to eat and be happy (even though I'd love to be a 2 again, it's not worth it!) 70% of my closet is stuff I have not been able to fit into since before I had my kid, 9 years ago so I have not touched my clothing in my quest to declutter. Thank you for being so real!
After I did my side of the closet, my husband was legit jealous. "Your side looks like a fancy store!" Lol. The very next day, I helped him with his side.
I love how real you are about your changed body shape. It is refreshing to see somebody who can accept that things change and holding onto things from the past is not always the smart thing to do. Whether by age, kids, or both it is worth doing this type of cull for the peace it does bring. Good vid!
I did my bedroom closet. I didn’t put everything on the bed though, I found that to be to much for me !!! I just started going through the items on the hangers one at a time. No mess !!!! A box for Keep / Donate . It worked out well. Closet done and looks great !!!
I was amazed at the amount of clothing you had! I frequently see people hanging tops up more by sleeve length than color. Like all the sleeveless and tanks together, then short sleeves and then long sleeves. I hate to say but my tops have been organized by size as well as sleeve length. BUT I can donate the bigger ones now and it feels so good! Good for you for tackling such a mammoth job!!
Love this. I go through everything in our house 2 times a year because we don't have hardly any storage in our home. I just recently did my dresser and am about to do my closet this week.
I can so relate to the pre-kid clothes! I used to wear size 8 easily, b4 kids (they’re millennials now). Only last year did the kon mari method help me get rid of them-by finally realizing the size 8 bikinis were stressing me out by looking at them-knowing I’ll never get back to that size no matter how much I workout. It’s not fair, idk why our bodies have to change so much while men pretty much get to stay the same. 💁🏾
I’ve been watching so many closet clean out videos but yours is one of the only ones that genuinely motivated me! I’ve been watching as I’ve been cleaning my closet and it made the process so much more enjoyable. Thank you!! 💗
Wow! Good job. Its the first time i've ever sat through a decluttering video and actually finished it. You made it look feasible as opposed to daunting. 👍
I usually sort shirts by length of sleeve, so long, short, and no sleeve, I also turn hangers backwards until I use the item, then after 6 months I can c what items I don't use
I loved your vid,it gave me motivation since honestly I haven't decluttered clothes, like ever.... I still have clothes from when I was in my teens and size 0 pants lol. Only free time I have will be Friday otherwise I wouldn't be sleeping in my own bed until then and its only Monday lol. Thanks for motivating, I'll put more decluttering for more motivation on Friday. BTW I love your personality and your hubby is so sweet to bring you some food and hopefully he declutters his side!
AWESOME CLOSET CLUTTERED or NOT CLUTTERED 😭♥️ I’m 26 wks, I purged too, I feel naked & bare w/out all my old lil college clothing too! More shopping excuses to start cluttering again! 🤪
Love this and how honest you always are! I love and hate decluttering - but once you're done you can finally see all your fave clothes, it makes it SO much easier to get dressed. My husband's in the military so we've moved a LOT the last few years, I end up doing a big declutter (of my stuff.. lol) at least once a year. If you're selling clothes, the Poshmark app is the easiest method I've found! I hope your hubby is inspired by how lovely and clean your side looks now 😅
I’m working on declutting my closet. You are so right you have to be ready to declutter your closet which means get rid of clothes, giveaway some, and up cycle. Great job I hope I can clear mine out like yours wish me luck.
Thanks to your encouragement, I've decluttered my bathroom and vanity area. It looks so much better. Now I'm going to start the closet. I'm so scared, it's a huge job. Wish me luck. Thanks for the videos.
I am so glad that someone else besides me has a color/size hanger separation preference. I only hang my clothes on a certain type and color of hanger and the lesser ones I put on my husband’s side of the closet.
I’m going to KonMai my closet next!!!!!! Thanks for the encouragement and such a great video- I can’t wait to start a decluttering series on my RUclips channel- well I may add it into my dITL? Idk
This does help to watch these kind of videos. I wish I had a closet like yours. Mine is smaller. I have a clothes holder and a cube drawer thing to keep clothes in it too. I already got one bag of clothes that I don’t want last month.
This was so helpful and motivating! I just went through my closet at the beginning of summer and purged all my clothes that were too big and too small, but I only did my summer clothes. So now I have to do the same for my fall winter clothes and I didn’t want to. Now I do!
it hit me hard when you said now that you had kids and size two not gonna happen, and I should let go of those clothes too. omg that’s me too! Love your video.
You did a great job. I actually like not having a ton of clothes. My home is the opposite of yours. We have no closets except 1 in my kids room. So EVERY piece of clothing I own fits in my dresser. I think once your hubby sees how neat, clean, and organized your side is he will take the time to do his side and maybe ask u for your expertise. Plus u will be able to get dressed faster and easier.
Thank you for a really useful video (totally agree - clothes don't 'spark joy' for me either! That's definitely connected with the more important/non material things in life! 👍😊)
Oh ahah I loved the way that you said that it did not get you sparkles ahahah so true ! Thanks for not telling this bullshit that we hear allover, you're my hero !
Sincerely like when you say that it's easier to hang your clothes, why waist time......... just for that and the love clothes thing, I will follow you !
Hey I just finished watching your video for the first time so if you keep this kind of stuff up I'll be watching you more often cuz you did it the right way you didn't look at do I does it Spike Joy or something like that I can't do that either my clothes if I wear them I like them if I don't I forgot so yeah all right thanks for sharing..
I'm planning on tackling my kids clothes this week (may be even more than this)! won't be posted till next month tho probably cause it is always a LOT of footage to edit together when it is this massive of an undertaking lol
I have a ton of hangers left too...now I am finding I want to fill them again, but am enjoying the new space in my closet so much I have not! I am thinking of donating a bunch just so the temptation is not there. Nice job on your closet, and being realistic about things that no longer fit!
I did both mine and my husband and he was shocked at the after math! He had way more clothes he didn’t use/didn’t fit in his closet, he now lets me buy him clothes 😂
If you remember, haha, use a moveable clothing rack or something similar to hang the hangers on as soon as you take an item of clothing off. Just have it to the side of you :) Also i would suggest labeling the fabric bins
Also, super proud of you! It looks great! ... now if only the other side matches :P My husband said he's going to KonMari his shoes this weekend. we'll see on that.
I haven't done this for probably 6-7 years and it's time, you've inspired me. Just as a heads up the last time I did this I found out you have to be so careful with selling if you use like a reseller like Plato's Closet, I brought a bunch of stuff and a lot of it, even if it was in great shape and even a few things had tags on, they said it's too old and they wouldn't take it. It's always worth checking that if that's the route you want to go, I forget their tips to check age of clothing but I'm sure it's online. I looked at it and thought this is a nice item, if I was still that smaller size I would buy it, not realizing apparently it was too dated. So just be careful...
When you wear something hanging up turn the hanger around facing the other way and if they are folded clothes that you wore put into a basket or tote and then after summer or winter or after 6 months go through and the one's you didn't wear your probably won't wear I did this and I got rid of almost half of my hanging stuff and 1 hole dresser drawer full of stuff that I was never wearing so you may want to try it
I can't pull everything out the closets it's overwhelming I rather pull a armful out and do a little bit in each room every day ...I enjoy listening to these videos while I'm working &this one is really good 🥰
It's always interesting to see how others live. I think I have a lot of clothes but it's probably only a fifth of what you have! For me, I would hang the jeans and fold the bras and store in drawers with dividers. To keep on top of your clothes clutter, a good rule is one on, one out. Same goes for other things like books and toys as well.
That sparcle joy isn't a thing for me either. But I can't put all clothes in a big pile, I keep feeling the things I'll keep will be wrinked. The last time I declutered my method was: 1 empty a drawer, clean it, put it back 2 pick each item and ask: do I like it? Does it fit me? Do I need this? 2a - the answer to all is yes - fold and put back in it's place. 2b - at least one answer is no I ask again: can I sell it? Yes - fold and put in sell bag. No: can I repurpose it? Yes - repurpose bag. No: Is it good eneugh to donate? Yes - fold and put in donate bag. No - put in trash bag. 3 do the same on the next drawer. 4 do the same in the wardrobe but by type, take out all blouses choose and hang back the ones I need, do the same for skirts, trousers, dresses, and jackets. 5 - take out the sell items and take photos, take the donate bag(s) to the car, take the repurpose one(s) to the sewing machine table, take the trash to the trash. And I do it in a day also because the bags never leave the bed.
This is a great modification! I read in her book that if the sheer volume is too overwhelming, or space/time constraints, you can totally do it by drawers or subcategory (sock, tshirts, long sleeve, dresses, etc.)
if you dont wanna mess with the good clothes but ones you dont wanna keep, count them up, take a pic of a doz of them, and put 1-4 $ on each, selling the whole box at once. OR give to a women's shelter, children's home for the teens, or similar... yes you did a great job!

You can also ask yourself can you see yourself with it, in the future, her manga in my opinion explains it better then her book
Hey Mai trying my hand on redoing my closet. Where did you get your cube storage bins with dividers. I looked through your posts to see if you added them but didn't see them. Could you shoot me the link?? Thanks! Love your videos! Keep up the great work!!
Where do you get most of your clothes from mai 💗
I stopped allowing myself to buy new hangers about a year ago and honestly it has been THE BEST deterrent for adding more crap to my wardrobe without removing something else first. If I break a hanger, it's one less clothing item I get to own.
Yass! Declutter or repurpose all the extra hangers!
Same!!
The last time I got rid of hangers I donated them to a local charity.
It really helps if you put hoarders on while you declutter lol at least for me it does! Love the end result nice work 👍🏼
😆😆 that’s a good idea!
Every time I watch a declutter video or a hoarders episode, I find something to trash or donate. Even as a minimalist. It is scary what we humans can collect.

Me, too!!!
lol this is my trick too haha
Thank you for the “it’s never gonna fit” real talk. After kids, my rib cage actually got wider. Never going to be back to my pre-preggo size!
Same! Was pleasantly surprised that some fitted tshirt finally fit right (somehow the ribcage expansion made up for my narrow shoulders that let the shirt droop before) and others that frankly looked too...childish and petite were officially outgrown, and that much easier to let go.

"Other than when I hold my kids, and sometimes my husband..." I laughed way too loud at that part

The real purpose of putting all the clothing in one place is to show you how much you actually have...it is sobering!
Goals "eat and be happy" i love this lol
Eat, but just cut carbs. It works xxx (lol has a cookie for lunch 😘)
@@Stumpybear7640 don't cut carbs lol they're literally what you need for energy amd maybe don't go around giving shitty diet advice it's not cute
I noticed that the more I get rid of the less stressed I am! I’ve held onto shit for years !!!
That was the most fun closet declutter I ever seen.
Thank you!! 😁

After I did my side of the closet, my husband was legit jealous. "Your side looks like a fancy store!" Lol. The very next day, I helped him with his side.
Light pink will look great
Amen on your "eating trumps fitting back into size 2 jeans" philosophy!! 🙌 Also just loved the decluttering. You did an awesome job!
OMG! This was fun to look at now, after seeing your home now. You have done an amazing job! Thank you for the inspiration!

I love the fact you said that holding your kids and SOMETIMES your husband sparks joy for you 😂

Good for you!!! 2 times a year sounds reasonable and probably is what I should do going forward 😅
I love it, your closet looks amazing!! Remember the less clothes the easier it is to manage and keep clean 🙌🏼
Wow!
Thank you! This was the most realistic and most helpful of all the declutter videos I viewed.
I love how real you are! Can’t wait to see more of your videos.
You have indeed inspired me. I’m long overdue on this project. Thank you.
Well done you!!! Still got enough clothes to wear, and to space out so they don't get crushed! That was a heck of a lot of clothes you had!
“I like food” 🤣 omg that’s so ME...
I can totally relate at 4:35 saying none of the clothes sparks joy, except my family. Yes it is so true
yesss i’m excited for this video!! i’m always decluttering now because i’m preparing for a baby in a very small home lol
AWESOME CLOSET CLUTTERED or NOT CLUTTERED 😭♥️
I’m 26 wks, I purged too, I feel naked & bare w/out all my old lil college clothing too! More shopping excuses to start cluttering again! 🤪
Haha yes! I def took advantage and shopped more than I ever have for a fall wardrobe!!

"Sometimes my husband" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 we all have those days right!
Thanks to your encouragement, I've decluttered my bathroom and vanity area. It looks so much better. Now I'm going to start the closet. I'm so scared, it's a huge job. Wish me luck. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks for keeping it real! I needed this to help me to get motivated
Now that Was a Decluttering Video. Good Job Happy Shopping 😆
Thanks for Sharing
I watched this because I love seeing what kind of stuff/clothes/items people have. 😁
I seriously need to do this in my closet! Thanks for the inspiration!
I have been there with jumbled hangers! Amazing work, thank you for the encouragement! 🌷
2022 - Watching this again after watching your last clean out! Crazy how perspective changes. You've come so far!
I am so glad that someone else besides me has a color/size hanger separation preference. I only hang my clothes on a certain type and color of hanger and the lesser ones I put on my husband’s side of the closet.
Okay, you motivated me to tackle my crazy of a disaster closet 😩
Great job! Your closet looks nice and spacious. Time well spent for sure. 👍🏼
I just found you! You had me laughing so hard 🤣😂🤣😂 thank you for being real very helpful and motivating
You did a phenomenal job!!! So inspiring!!❣️🎁
Loved this, you tried really hard! I recently went through my closet and basically threw my life away haha. Gonna do my drawers next
I’m going to KonMai my closet next!!!!!! Thanks for the encouragement and such a great video- I can’t wait to start a decluttering series on my RUclips channel- well I may add it into my dITL? Idk

You’ve done a brilliant job - you should be very proud of yourself
Thank you!!! 🥰🥰🙏🙏
New here! Binging and loving your content, but most of all your personality! Thank you. Stay well! ❤
“Sometimes my Husband” facts!! 😆
wow good job! this must feel amazing!
It does!!!!
If you remember, haha, use a moveable clothing rack or something similar to hang the hangers on as soon as you take an item of clothing off. Just have it to the side of you :) Also i would suggest labeling the fabric bins
Also, super proud of you! It looks great! ... now if only the other side matches :P
My husband said he's going to KonMari his shoes this weekend. we'll see on that.
😅😅
Great job! You are awesome.
I give you credit with this closet clean out i did a clean out recently you have alot more than me so it must have been very overwelming great job
Thank you!!
When you wear something hanging up turn the hanger around facing the other way and if they are folded clothes that you wore put into a basket or tote and then after summer or winter or after 6 months go through and the one's you didn't wear your probably won't wear I did this and I got rid of almost half of my hanging stuff and 1 hole dresser drawer full of stuff that I was never wearing so you may want to try it
Totally motivated me! You could sell or let your kids use your college sorter. You can hang up all your clothes so not to be tempted to buy more.😉
I read that too fast and thought it said "You could sell your kids"
@@OhiChicken oh my goodness, hahaha! That's so funny!
I can't pull everything out the closets it's overwhelming I rather pull a armful out and do a little bit in each room every day ...I enjoy listening to these videos while I'm working &this one is really good 🥰
👏👏👏👏👏 amazing job!!!
Thank you!!! 🥰🥰
Love this type of film when i go through my things. Regards grom Poland ❤️🍷
Haha i love u Hahah Great speech !!!! I also love food and comfort now haha greetings from Poland 🇵🇱
Watching MariKondo it surprised me how many people don't know how to fold clothes. I thought it was a basic thing but turns out it isn't.
You definitely inspired me! Awesome job with doing it all in 1 day! Now that it's a few months later, did your results help inspire your Hubby?
That sparcle joy isn't a thing for me either. But I can't put all clothes in a big pile, I keep feeling the things I'll keep will be wrinked.
The last time I declutered my method was:
1 empty a drawer, clean it, put it back
2 pick each item and ask: do I like it?
I love this!! I did the same thing! I want to eat!!! Hahaha - I made a separate bag of old denim and sweats...maybe I’ll make a blanket someday...
if you dont wanna mess with the good clothes but ones you dont wanna keep, count them up, take a pic of a doz of them, and put 1-4 $ on each, selling the whole box at once. OR give to a women's shelter, children's home for the teens, or similar... yes you did a great job!
