This totally makes me want to drop my 1 year old off to a family member to watch so I can declutter the whole house! It's been driving me nuts, but it's hard to accomplish much with her getting into everything. 🤦‍♀️

I'm going to put this idea here for any parents struggling with the toy situation: Because we lived in a too small place, the rule I started from the beginning was - you can not take out another toy to play with, until the first one is put away where it belongs. I made it a game and told my child this message all the time so it stuck. I also did it when friends came over so it was clear that this is an "always" rule. The second thing I did is from a very young age (2) was I would get a reusable shopping bag and it was the "donate bag" that stayed for 1 week. This is so the child can remove toys if they change their mind or add to it. Totally up to the child what to donate but anything they didn't love or play with went in there (your child puts it in themself). I always said there are boys and girls who don't have as much as you do, and they would love toys. We donated to charity and to my child's daycare. The daycare was the best because he could still see his toys and play with them, and see other kids loving them too. It helped change his mind on donating. Also donating every month or every few months makes it a routine and not a punishment. I also made a donate bag for us so our child could see it was a family thing to donate and clear out regularly

For the books I really love The Home Edit's style of placing them in rainbow order! Because kids will probably not remember that the favourite book is slightly taller than that other or so, but they will know that the spine is green. Otherwise GREAT JOB! Everything is looking and must be feeling amazing!

You might want to consider moving that chair with ottoman to the other side so the back isn’t near that open banister. I can imagine little boys climbing on the that and maybe one pushing the other and a child falling over the banister.

Excited to see this. I have been loving this series!! It has majorly motivated me to declutter as well. My family lives in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment so storage is limited, but since the start of your series I'm pleased to say I have finished my bathroom, kitchen, kids room, and my clothes. I have a little left, but it feels great to have less stuff that we aren't using.

"I never thought I'd need to get blood out of my curtains. . .unless there was, like, a murder in my house." I laughed SO hard! 🤣
I hope you don't have to deal with that sitch again, but if you do, peroxide will save your life!! Put an old towel/rag under the stain, saturate with peroxide and then use the back of an old spoon to agitate the stain and wash as usual (I use a cold wash so I have a chance to check to make sure the stain is truly gone before any heat might set it in.) I have never had an issue with the peroxide damaging fabric, but good idea to check for colorfastness before using this method.

I keep special kids books that each of my kids loved as babies or toddlers - I keep it in their memory boxes so one day I can give it to them and maybe they'll end up reading it to their own kids if they have any ❤️ same with what they wore home from the hospital and any other special little toys that I just couldn't get rid of!

Clear plastic bins with lids for toys are my absolute favourite!! I got some for my son's legos, hotwheels tracks, small toys, blocks, craft supplies, play dough etc etc ... as an alternative to "nicer" storage systems that I dont want to spend money on because we will be moving this year so I didn't want yo invest too much into what works here ... ... and I actually think they are the best! Feels so organized, they stack, and you can see what's in them. 👍👍

When my kids were around 3-4 I did this same massive declutter, and now, they are 6-7 and I have a baby, and since they massive Konmari declutter, I’ve been able to keep things organized, trashed, and donated in a timely manner instead of just piling up like I did before. Definitely need to store or donate books, I think we'll store many because some are actually our childhood books and I'm so glad my mum kept them. Some can go to new homes but some are keepers even if only for me!

For blood, old blood too, have the child who has the bloody noses spit on the stains and let sit for a few and wash as normal. It has worked for me with my kids when they got blood on clothes or bedding. Something about the enzymes in the salavia break down the blood stain. I have done it on some of my items as well.

can you find a cleaning thing called The pink stuff??? that and the grey aand white sponges from ikea AMAZING FOR EVERYTHINNG, for all the walls, color and paint that doesn't come off, it's not a chemical gross thing it's labelled natural actually. wet the sponge a bit and go with the pink stuff and magic happens. I use it on everything and especially on yellow. grime on your sink or bathtub and for the silve sink to shine =)

    Hydrogen peroxide!!!!!!!!!
It will get blood out of anything without ruining the fabric. Used to use it all the time to get blood out of my scrubs at work. But I’ve use it all around my house too and it’s amazing. When we adopted our dog he used to rub his nose on everything until it bled. So there was blood everywhere. The hydrogen peroxide got it all out, and thankfully our dog got used to us and stopped rubbing his nose! 🙌🏻

Baking soda and a little water might get the market off the walls. Peroxide gets blood out of anything. If you decide to get rid of the chair and ottoman, ripping off the bottom skirts and a good cleaning, you could probably sell them for $200. They're pretty popular right now.

As an adult who gets occasional nose bleeds I do not like tissues [my mind states that the blood will not absorb ] So I have a clean washcloth and small older Tupperware near my bed. Then to be gross the blood drops into the box and the cloth helps stem the flow and clean up. Easy access to a toilet is a problem for me.

I would post the tool bench for free on Facebook marketplace or make a “curb alert”. I have gotten a lot of toys for my kids this way and many were fixed after given to us as broken. Our latest find was a hoverboard that was acting up. The woman giving it away was tired of playing with it and was going to throw it in the trash. My husband did a factory reset, we got a new charger, and it’s now good as new. I also post a lot of items for free as my kids grow out of them. They always go very quickly and many people appreciate not having to pay for a toy that their child may or may not like.

Great video! Love the blood and murder curtains 😆 I noticed you have a humidifier, when do you use it and how long do you run it for?

I think you should be able to take the plastic toys to your local recycling center that includes hard to recycle items. There should be someone there to help you figure out which bin to sort it into.

I know this will be a non issue now but toys will always come in so I’ll say it, day cares and nurseries and charities are always happy to have toys :) esp bigger pieces

Looks really great! My only concern is the gray chair in the corner.. I hope the boys don’t climb on it and flip over the stair rails!! As a mom of a bouncy boy, I just thought of that when I saw it.

Totally know what you mean. I’ve thought of that before. It’s an illusion, it is not actually as close to the banister like it looks 😁

You should watch the RUclips video of “The Book with no pictures” read by Ryan and Craig... hilarious!! My daughter loves it and our school librarian plays it for the kids at the school and they BEG for it. Also The Office kids book... for sure keep! So glad you kept it. My daughter is 8 and she has watched the office with us for a year now (of course we skip some episodes or fast forward through some stuff but it’s pretty kid friendly). Anyways, she loves the book and laughing at the characters and can tell me about the episodes (Kevin spilling the chili hahaha). I got it for her for Christmas and she loves it, we had to stop opening presents to read it. Haha.

We are expecting our first little boy this summer and have a loft area very similar to this one. Did you have any concerns about your boys trying to climb over the railing even with the netting? Any tips to keep it safe, it’s starting to keep me awake at night 😂

I may be late to the comment section but hydrogen peroxide will get blood out of carpet or things you can't put in the washer. Of course make sure it won't stain your surface but I've never had it stain. Pour a small amount on stain, it will bubble and then pat dry.

Will you be labeling the bins? Or are your kids pretty good at putting things back with your system?

For next time (hope ypu don't need to, but you never know) blood stains will come out with just table salt and ice or very cold water. Just wet the stain a little, put salt on it and gently rub it in with some ice or very cold water. Is should come out. Then wash on cold setting with some baby shampoo :) hang to dry!
