I think when many soldiers watch comp for the first time, they start bombing the med constantly. Medic is one of the best picks, but it's a rookie mistake to be so predictable and not consider better options. Patience is key, and your team would often appreciate if you were alive for team fights.
Mistake : Wrong Loadout Delfy : Use banners depending on the enemy team, use roamer loadout only if necessary, be useful to your tea- Mr Slin : Tip 1, use Gunboats
I use the Original, Concheror and Escape plan in every situation. If there are many annoying engineers in the enemy team, then I use a direct hit against centri gans.
I have always had a bad tendency to just shoot at the heavy while fighting a heavy+med combo (with any class really). It's hard to look at a giant hitbox that screams "easy target" and not shoot at it instead of the medic, who is more important and worth the kill trade if you do die.
To be honest, my kind of ideal loadout for Soldier consists of the Black Box, Battalions Backup and the Equalizer. The Box gives me extra health on hit (the amount depending on how much damage the enemy recieves) at the cost of a SINGLE ROCKET, the Backup giving me 20 extra health points while providing me and my team within its radius a buff to their defences, and the Equalizer allows me to stab the enemy in their faces while at low health. Think its not crazy enough? Don't kritz me, I generate my own kritz at 20 health!!! Yes. Nearly every swing with the Equalizer when at very low HP is a guaranteed krit. Still not crazy enough? Do you see this banner, maggot? When its flying, I may not be, but you sure are!!! God did not give me permission to die!!!! He gave me permission to kill every single one of you sorry sacks of scum with my melee weapon!!!!! This is a man's weapon, son. While everyone else runs off the battlefield, out of sight, when the smoke clears after that nuclear critical explosion went off, I stand alone. With my Equalizer, I can smack that stupid look right off your maggoty head, dominate your Medic, decapitate your Spy, and even break your Demo's skull without even batting an eye. So the next time you wanna kill a REAL man, look him in the eye, and show him the HELL within you!!!!
Equalizer is pointless. It has a hidden stat thats less damage than stock at full health and only is equal damage at half health. Use the eacape plan instead to control which fights to stay in or leave or at least use the katana cause getting a kill will keep you alive and its just a more fun option with the possibility of melee killing sprees.
Quick tip for air-shots: it’s better to practice hitting targets that are closer than farther away. The former will happen more often and anyone that knows basic air-strafing can simply avoid rockets that are coming at them from long-range. It’s not as fancy, but it’s a lot more practical while still having some of that cool factor.
Hey delfy, in the future i suggest turning on r_lod 0 for these videos to avoid the obvious model changes from the low quality models and the high quality models. Its especially obvious here when you can see the soldier's rocket launcher's end go from an pentagon to a circle when he's closer.

Tbh, I was really excited watching this considering Soldier is my main and wanting to find out my mistakes that I do. But when I finished watching the whole thing, I was disappointed honestly.. I mean, these are just the basic things you should do, probably experienced players already knew these
well yeah there is just not that much to soldier. the only challenge is rocket jumping and even that is not so hard. Soldier is powerful so even if you dont rocket jump you still put out a lot of damage no matter what so these tips dont matter too much.
Well hey. TF2 is F2P, meaning new blood of players cycle in ever so often. It's best to have updated information compared to dated ones from years prior.
"Play as roamer soldiers with the blackbox" R u stoop? You'll use 2 rockets for a fast/highbomb and then be left out of luck, due to only 1 rocket remaining, and medic having 150 hp, with you max dmg being 112, not even 116".
I would never recommend blackbox with gunboats or parachute. 3 clip - 1 for the gunboats or parachute to take effect basically 2 clips left for damage. Miss any and you're dead without any results.
Something I would disagree with is over-rocket jumping. Competitive players need to do that, however, I understand what you're saying, that it's stupid to jump in without a guaranteed means of getting health back. Also, I would suggest people learn how to speed-pogo, allows you to move long distances with 2 or 3 jumps without taking fall damage, moving fast distances super quickly while not taking as much damage as 2 or 3 separate rocket jumps. Also what you said for the airshot/sick frag movie tip is correct, however, one needs to properly learn how to do airshots to protect their teammates from good soldiers and demos. In order to get good at airshots I would suggest people go onto MGE servers and tr_walkway Furthermore, I agree with StickMaster, you should never jump into the entire team. Maybe 2 or 3 players, but it there's more than 4 players, it's definite suicide. Don't be too aggressive as any class, unless you're a spy (in which that case it's necessary). Also, I disagree with rocket jumping away because it can be inefficient. Instead, pull out the escape plan, and juke, making it hard to hit you. For rocket jumping, for the most part, you don't want to aim straight underneath your soldier, that's really bad for jumping and makes you easy to hit by a sniper. The speed jumps tend to be better. For the wrong loadout tip: NEVER EVER USE LIBERTY LAUNCHER. For your secondaries, it can be very situational, but gunboats tend to be the best. For melees, you should usually use the escape plan unless you're market gardening or want to boost your teammates with disciplinary action. For the last tip, you can never have too many soldiers. There's a reason an mvm meta is LITERALLY JUST STACKING SOLDIER.
Great video. But Im gonna ask because its bothering me for months and I have to know. How are these custom animations working in casual for you? I have all of them downloaded from gamebanana but they doesn't for in casual game for me.
the real mistake was not staying with his team and running into a heavy medic combo. not rocket jumping. yes it does help but if the enemy has good tracking its game over.
I do have a little tip If your rocket jumping a good bit but you still want heath there are two things 1. Use the conch so you can get heath back plus with the conch your constantly healing when damaged so you don’t have to worry about a medic 2. Use the Gunboats as they reduce the damage taken from said rocket jumps My tips for rocket jumping is use about 2 rockets for jumping and two for attacking now using the black box for rocket jumping isn’t that good as you only have 3 try and stick with the normal rocket launcher or any launcher with 4 or more rockets As for melee weapons I highly recommend the discipline action (the whip) now it’s damage is not the best but my god the amount of times that whip can critical is insane plus it helps speed other team mates up and the whip can hit players from front and behind
Its funny now some sensitivities are considered high in other games and mid/low in others. Mostly play CS now and 1000dpi 1.3sens is considered high. My TF2 sensitivity is the exact same which gives an eDPI of nearly 10 times less than delfy.

Have to disagree with #4. I go for every airshot I can just because I need the practice. Using maps and training airshots on bots isn't a perfect substitute for real practice on actual players.
My perfect loudout is: "festive,strange stock rocket louncher" ; gunbots ; and strange specialised kilstreak marked gardener. rocket jumping is my most important part of a atack or a defence tactics.
Number 11: Oh yeah I have a shotgun. If the enemy team has a pyro that knows how to air blast well its best to use your shotgun so you or your teammates have a face full of friendly fire. Also if you're in close combat doors and/or low on hp it's best to use your shotgun. The shotgun can sometimes do more damage than your rocket launcher, and besides unless you want to go full kamikaze use the shotgun for your best survivable option.
On mistake #3, players who are an expert at rocket jumping, especially 6's players, wouldn't take that much damage when they launch off the ground. Usually, if they performed a rocket jump perfectly, they'd only take 10-20 damage. Consider that hardcore rocket jumpers would be able to shoot 4-5 times which they could still have over 100 HP, even without a pocket Medic. Furthermore, the amount of distance traveled would be as on a 5 CP map, soaring from a Spawn CP to the Central CP. Comparing to you, that amount of distance you traveled would be from spawn to the nearest CP.
I play with a controller and mouse sensitivity is sort of similar. It took me a while to find the perfect balance where I can rocket jump quickly but still aim reliable. I’ve even hit some awesome market gardens. If you play with a controller, don’t feel limited. There are many was to customize ur controls.

Also if you're in close combat doors and/or low on hp it's best to use your shotgun. The shotgun can sometimes do more damage than your rocket launcher, and besides unless you want to go full kamikaze use the shotgun for your best survivable option.

On mistake #3, players who are an expert at rocket jumping, especially 6's players, wouldn't take that much damage when they launch off the ground. Usually, if they performed a rocket jump perfectly, they'd only take 10-20 damage.
Consider that hardcore rocket jumpers would be able to shoot 4-5 times which they could still have over 100 HP, even without a pocket Medic. Furthermore, the amount of distance traveled would be as on a 5 CP map, soaring from a Spawn CP to the Central CP. Comparing to you, that amount of distance you traveled would be from spawn to the nearest CP.

I play with a controller and mouse sensitivity is sort of similar. It took me a while to find the perfect balance where I can rocket jump quickly but still aim reliable. I’ve even hit some awesome market gardens.
If you play with a controller, don’t feel limited. There are many was to customize ur controls.
