Thank you for this. But I hate them all equally and won't bother eating them. They are nonetheless a treat for macro photography, in the proper light :D
I was taught that all mushroom can potentially do this. Fungi along the roadside can have cadmium and lead from car pollution. Stay away from old fruit orchards, and flower beds cause they used arsenic in bug repellants.
Just wanna let you know that your videos really do make a difference for me. I'm fresh out of highschool and have lost my direction in life and sometimes I find myself just sorta bumming about my room and not really living. But your videos, everytime I see you upload it brings me joy and helps drive away depressing thoughts and get me out of my funk. I hope you never feel that your work making these videos goes to waste. Sometimes I go to the European supermarket and buy canned foods to eat with you. Thanks and keep being you, you funky brit!
Enjoy these moments. One day, hopefully for you, you'll find what drives you and makes you almost feel guilt to get paid for doing this thing you like to do so much, it's hard to stop and have a life outside. Take your time, be patient, open your mind, be attentive, relax and DON'T BE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF :D
Im actually in the same scenario, freshly graduated and besides 2 good jobs i have nothing to do and no idea for ways to make my life interesting, any tips?
Because of your videos like this, I decided to actually get out of the house this morning and go look at what fungi and plant-life I have in the area. I didn't pick or eat any, of course, as I couldn't identify them. The experience was fun, though. So, thank you: I feel like I did something useful, healthy, and generally a turn to a healthier way of living. I look forward to going back to see if I might be able to tentatively identify them. Still won't be eating any of it until I'm ABSOLUTELY certain what's safe, but the experience exploring the area was wonderful enough. I don't think I'd have done so without your influence.
I love how you do what you want of this channel, but whatever you publish, it is great quality. People like you always end up with tons of subscribers, and they deserve it
I love your foraging videos! It's fun to live a bit vicariously, since I'm chronically ill and am often confined to bed, and when I'm not I use a wheelchair. But these videos are lovely and so informative and interesting, thank you for making them!
Right on, bro! I'm a novice forager & mycologist here in Missouri, and I enjoy the format of your videos: 1) the search 2) find/identify 3) meal prep from your harvests. And I must say - you are a darn good cook! You don't require any 'Betty Crocker' recipe printouts as I do...!
Goodness, I wish I could do something like this. Mushroom foraging is neither safe or fun in tropical climate, though. So I’ll have to stick to picking oranges for now. This was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for sharing and for helping me become confident about making my own crepes someday. :D
Crêpes: 1 cup of flour, 1,5 cup of milk,1 egg, pinch of salt, 1/4-1/2 tea sp of vanilla extract (1/4 cup sugar or none) 2 table spoons of melted butter. ;)
Gus Look as lovely as that’d be, I’ve got some pretty strict landlords to speak to before I venture into that. Heck, they don’t even allow us to have fish. But we’ll see. Thanks for the idea. :)
I think that one reason I really appreciate and enjoy your various videos because they are both practical and whimsical. I never, ever watch cooking shows (absolutely hate everyone else's offerings both on TV and RUclips) yet I enjoy yours. Yes, you help us experience strange ingredients, but it's not presented in a way to shock or titillate us but rather to educate and entertain us. Thank you; I honestly admire you.
Somethings just so simple and happy about your mushroom foraging videos, and I’m really glad I found them as they show you just the happiest, smallest details of life that just make your day a whole lot better. Thanks for brightening my day today, and I hope you have a great day! 🙂
I love how whenever you come across a thing you really like, once you taste it, you do a little fumble with your hands and your voice goes a little excited. Like when you tasted that crepe. "Oh wow!". Definition of its the little things right there. Beautiful to see. 13:12 onwards. 😊
Of course most of us enjoy your scambaiting videos, but this is quickly becoming one of my favorite series on your channel: just foraging for mushrooms. It's genuinely so cool to know that if you know what to look for, you CAN forage in urban environments! You CAN just go right outside and find what you need! And I just think that's so cool. Maybe I'll go outside and look at the mushrooms and plants near me. Not eat them yet, but just admire them. :>
Your channel makes me seriously resent having the palate of a child. Everything you cook looks so delicious! Maybe one day I'll be able to chew salad without my trachea literally clamping shut
maybe just eat it and stop making a drama on it specifically, i mean when your in the action of eating, i told a friend this and try to eat whilst sort of doing something maybe diy project or washing down something etc your mind gets occupied by the situation and hopefully the physical feeling of hunger will drive more and stop the 'childlike palate' from regarding the food as something to think about.
Slow gradual exposure, and staying in a relaxed and open minded state when trying new foods. Can help expand the palate. Also sometimes the recipe makes alllllll the difference! Good luck! 💜
My brother is 62 and won't eat anything he "hasn't had before". Really! It's a wonder he ever moved on from breast milk. I will try anything, other than bugs.
I really enjoy your content. Its pretty random but I like watching it. No cussing no shaming no screaming into the camera nothing crazy but nothing boring. I just found it a few days ago and I think im going to go ahead and subscribe
Another cool video!!! I love mushrooms and all food related to them.. Reminds on my times back home in Slovakia and Hungary, where mushrooms collecting, cooking, preparing is actually national sport, tradition alike. There's a tons of recipies all over the net, how to make amazing food with or from mushrooms. Keep up good work mate!! P. S: plate and table cloth are amazing as well!!!! Penny Bun-Ceps are my favourite! Yumeee
Those mushrooms are beautiful and that crepe looked absolutely delicious! I've been meaning to try and make crepes for years, but now that I see how easy it is, I'll definitely give it a go. Thanks for the enjoyment and the inspiration!
Like so many others I found your channel through the scambaiting, but I've gotten so addicted to weird stuff in a can and videos like this. I love your channel so much. Also: OK
Hello Atomic Shimp I recommend to put chopped onion into hot butter first and after it will be done (something like light brown colour) add mushrooms. I usually doing this for all mushrooms
So let me add this up. Walking through the woods with Mrs Shrimp and doggo, , foraging, harvesting mushrooms, PURPLE MUSHROOMS, cooking, improvised recipes, crepes and capturing it all on video. I think we've hit the Atomic Shrimp lottery boys! If he was somehow scam baiting while opening cans he'd die of excitement .
Beautiful mushroom! I found one of these by the base of an oak in Jönköping, Sweden. Wiki says it used to be eaten here, but after reports of its tendency to pick up arsenic from the ground, it is no longer recommended for culinary use.

It's like RUclips can read my mind, I had no idea I'd find this interesting until I had already consumed about half of your foraging Videos! Makes me want to go out and hike more often more than anything tbh.
YES! I've been binge watching your foraging videos lately and I'm so excited to watch this one. I would really love to see more of these if you happen to do more soon.
Looks delectable! I had to look, and apparently these grow around here, but in all the years I spent being outdoors I don't recall ever seeing 'purple' mushrooms. I will have to look though. I was taught how to find Morel mushrooms, but nothing else, and I've never made any attempts on mushrooms I don't know anything about. I wouldn't mind going to a nature center and they have mycology experts that can teach a few that are safe. I may try that. Thanks for the video AS.
Thanks for this recipe and inspiration to go out and pick mushrooms, I will definitely try this dish together with my mom, I'm sure she'll enjoy picking & eating them!
Me and my dad pick these for years they’re the best in a beef broth, 2 ox cubes diced beef and these mushrooms, half a cube of gravy salt and pepper cook over night in slow cooker believe me you’ll fall in love, dip bread In the broth enjoy
Man, recently discovered you trough a friend linking me one of your scammer videos but gotta say, those cooking videos are really relaxing n fun to watch! But they also really help me focus on work! Never stop making stuff I love your channel :D
Very nice. I have much experience foraging in the wilds of Wisconsin. The number of foods and dishes one can create with a little bit of effort is amazing. I now cook in Vegas, and the experience of those days really translates to my career today.
Wonderful creative videos!!! One suggestion for your cooking, is to obtain a couple of rubber spatulas which will whisk all of your precious ingredients fully out of the container!!!
So... salivating throughout watching your entire video has left me parched and craving for mushrooms at a criminally insane level... right, time for a mushroom crepe and a Jack Daniels!!!
couldnt you wok the mushrooms, to have them stay purple? I had some purple sprouts last christmas, and iirc I was advised to just not cook them too long. Sadly, I'm a philistine about vegetables, I prefer them a little more mushy, so I still cooked the -umph- out of them.
I'll bet this dude knows where all the best Psilocybin are growin'. Hope to see Mr Atomic upload a "magical cooking video" for his millionth subscriber!
Hawkinge in my town (folkestone) is the place to go. But the hospital in my birth town had a load of fly agaric come up on a strip of land in the grounds. I'm too old and sensible these days. But poundshop have started selling cbd e liquid and I'm vaping the shit out of that coz it's cheap n legal..... Also. Does next to bugger all.
I have a hard time believing a curious guy like this has never tried psilocybes before. Of course, a wholesome channel like this would not be the place to admit to it.
I think the nonstick pan is CeraCraft - it sort of doesn't matter - it's just a nonstick pan that I only ever use for omelettes and pancakes - after use, it is gently washed, wrapped and put away. The thing that ruins nonstick pans quickly is 'general purpose' usage such as browning meat, frying potatoes, etc - for this, I use my cast iron skillets (the small one has 25 years of seasoning through continued use)
I saw loads of mushrooms around this weekend after the rain but didn't get a chance to go foraging. Lots of fairy ring (yum) and others that I didn't identify. Looks like I should've had a romp. And what forest was it that had chantarelles round here? I haven't seen any locally but saw loads in Scotland
Chanterelles can be found throughout the UK - in my experiemce, they tend to favour open, mixed broadleaf woodland - especially where there is a mix of oak, beech and holly - and especially places where there are mossy banks. Obviously I can't share precise locations, but I have seen them in the New Forest and in woodland on the South Downs
Wow what an interesting kind of mushroom! I'm not a fan of eating them myself, but I think they are really cool! Also I know at least two people who absolutely love to eat mushrooms that I can introduce to this recipe. Also, cooking looks so easy when you do it, it encourages me to find a different filling for those crepes and make some myself! :D
At different points, I wasn't sure what you were doing; making Yorkshire pudding of the pan drippings (butter), or some other sort of bread-type thing. I probably would have made my crepe(s) thinner, but, I like very thin crepes. I think that's the first thing most people in my family learned to cook, we ate them so often (like every Saturday..)
Love these mushrooms, popped up every year in Wendover Woods, but sadly since I've now moved back to the North East I have to forego such finds for the most part!
On cooking mushrooms. If you get your pan smoking hot before adding anything, then throw in the mushrooms and the butter together, the butter won’t burn, and the mushrooms won’t sweat out the moisture. Keep the heat on high, keep the mushrooms moving, and you get the richest possible flavour and the mushrooms go a lovely nutty brown. They take only three or four minutes at most, so quicker too. I have used this method for over forty years. Never fails, and nothing sticks to the pan, even an old iron skillet.
I love these purple mushrooms! In Philippines, we can mix coconut milk to any dish and it's magic when you eat! Great idea, might try this once my mushrooms grow again😃😃😃😃😃
Good to show unmistakeable edible fungi - my favourite was sparassis crispa , found one once! Also just about any boletus that doesn't colour change, and the true chantarelles (orange and black), tasty, easy to identify, harder to spot sadly👍👍
You could try and sprinkle some lemon juice on them before they go into the pan. The juice helps most vegetables hold their colors, why shouldn’t it work with shrooms? Worth a try
You can literally go to a nearby forest yourself and Google any interesting plant life you see or take a pic/note it down and research it when you get home.
I've not had a problem with them. They do tend to fall off during cooking, so there are times when it might be preferable to remove them just from an aesthetic viewpoint - for example in a dish of stir fried vegetables the detached spikes, although soft and edible, are like crumbs
Great video, I love mushrooms! Do morels grow anywhere near you? Those are my favorite ones; however, they have become increasingly harder to find in my area 😕.
About 3 years ago I was hiking in a trail behind my friend's house when we stumbled upon these mushrooms. We didn't know what they were and now stumbling across this video I have finally figured out the mystery of the weird mushroom thingy
This scares the pooopy out of me! Only because of the concept of eating mushrooms that are a funny colour :). I recognise the white mushrooms... I’ll definitely seek advice before eating a foraged mushroom as I’m likely to hurt myself! :). Thanks for a cracking education! :)
Some of the most deadly mushrooms are white ones. I don't recommend trying to forage any white mushrooms without some serious experience. There's a lot of mushrooms that are easy to identify for beginners though, just find a good book.
I love amethyst deceivers - very recognisable. I steer clear of white capped and brown capped mushrooms generally as I find them hard to distinguish between edible ones and toxic lookalikes...
Thanks for the information this is my second wild mushroom to try my first was ringless honey mushrooms both growing under the same tree a silver 🍁 Thanks
I live in the South too matey, but more closer to Wales. Seen a literal TON of fungi and mushrooms this year. Don't know which are or aren't edible though, apart from Jews ear or Elves ear. Found a whole ton of that stuff.
For people who want a good crépe batter. 1 part flour 2 parts milk 1 egg + 1 egg per pound (450~500grams) of flour and a bit of salt ofc. Best pankace / crépe mixture (I call it pancake mix but thats cuz I am dutch)
It's important to get guidance and reference that is specific to your locality - one of the most common causes of accidental mushroom poisoning is when people who are familiar with fungi in one place move to a different place (usually a different country) and mistake something there for something familiar back home. Also, these mushrooms can apparently concentrate Arsenic when it is present in the soil, so that may also be a problem.
@@AtomicShrimp I know the arsenic can be tested. Probably good idea to research the area and get as much info as possible. Thanks again and I like your videos 😊
very pretty mushroom, sadly almost every mushroom gives me a massive headache. almost looks like candy. keep up the great videos, also you can use the back of a frying fan for thin crepes if you want. you just dip the batter on or spread it quickly. cooks in seconds

The thing that ruins nonstick pans quickly is 'general purpose' usage such as browning meat, frying potatoes, etc - for this, I use my cast iron skillets (the small one has 25 years of seasoning through continued use)
My brain kept thinking the thumbnail was a bunch of dead frogs... dead purple frogs...
Yeah...
What a beautiful and delicious looking lunch!
You’re the kind of person I aspire to be. Thanks for sharing mate!
It looks delicious, and well should be. Bur it is crepes forestieres, without "a la" :)
Thats nice.
Guys, double check your mushrooms just to be safe.
Stay safe :)
The Lorax I love eating bright red mushrooms with white dots on it
@@RandomRahi2 NOO THOSE ONES ARE POISONOUS
Love these mushrooms, popped up every year in Wendover Woods, but sadly since I've now moved back to the North East I have to forego such finds for the most part!
Those mushys looked outstanding
On cooking mushrooms. If you get your pan smoking hot before adding anything, then throw in the mushrooms and the butter together, the butter won’t burn, and the mushrooms won’t sweat out the moisture. Keep the heat on high, keep the mushrooms moving, and you get the richest possible flavour and the mushrooms go a lovely nutty brown. They take only three or four minutes at most, so quicker too. I have used this method for over forty years. Never fails, and nothing sticks to the pan, even an old iron skillet.
🎵 Cheer up sleepy Jean
Oh what can it mean, to an
Amethyst Deceiver and a
Homecoming queen. 🎵
I love these purple mushrooms! In Philippines, we can mix coconut milk to any dish and it's magic when you eat! Great idea, might try this once my mushrooms grow again😃😃😃😃😃
Looks very appetising, although I would never have the confidence to forage for mushrooms. I'd have to rely on Morrisons.
Worth a try
Where did you get your vast knowledge of plants? I want to learn
You can literally go to a nearby forest yourself and Google any interesting plant life you see or take a pic/note it down and research it when you get home.
Our mushroom foraging guide recommended scraping the spikey bits off the hedgehogs. Said they can be a bit hard. Have you noticed this?
I've not had a problem with them. They do tend to fall off during cooking, so there are times when it might be preferable to remove them just from an aesthetic viewpoint - for example in a dish of stir fried vegetables the detached spikes, although soft and edible, are like crumbs
Love this guy. Gives us a lesson on foraging then goes home and makes crepes
We don't eat Amethyst Deceiver in Sweden because apparently they're loaded with arsenic over here. Maybe the ground conditions are better in the UK?
Purple and mushrooms two of my favourite things
Looks lovely
You may try dehydrating the mushrooms before you cook them. It may help preserve the color.
I've dried them before - they just turn brown. Freeze drying would probably preserve the colour, but I am not geared up for that
I cant believe I just subbed to a mushroom channel lol love your content brother
Mushrooms freak me the fuck out for some reason, yet I love watching these kinda videos
Great video, I love mushrooms! Do morels grow anywhere near you? Those are my favorite ones; however, they have become increasingly harder to find in my area 😕.
Apparently morels do grow in these parts. I have never yet found them
Omg the mushroom is purple and gorgeous!!! I love purple
Thanks for the information this is my second wild mushroom to try my first was ringless honey mushrooms both growing under the same tree a silver 🍁
Thanks
I live in the South too matey, but more closer to Wales. Seen a literal TON of fungi and mushrooms this year. Don't know which are or aren't edible though, apart from Jews ear or Elves ear. Found a whole ton of that stuff.
Man that creppe looks amazing, really good job!
Cheese and mushrooms, lovely 😍👍
Wow what game is this as the graphics are pretty awesome :P
I believe it's called "Outside." The characters can be hit-or-miss, but everything looks so real! ;)
I have heard it is called RL, but apparently the difficult is super hard, like you would not believe.
If you meet another person in RL, please remember not to click on their face
@@AtomicShrimp XD ahahahaha! ok
For people who want a good crépe batter.
1 part flour
2 parts milk
1 egg + 1 egg per pound (450~500grams) of flour
and a bit of salt ofc.
Best pankace / crépe mixture (I call it pancake mix but thats cuz I am dutch)
and bake it on full blast (so the water drips on the pan just hover on it)
You are like the mate who lives next door who says I have nothing in the fridge and then produces a 3 course meal for 4 people out of nothing!
Great video 👌 I live in New England are these mushrooms found here and is there any I should look for specific to the area?
It's important to get guidance and reference that is specific to your locality - one of the most common causes of accidental mushroom poisoning is when people who are familiar with fungi in one place move to a different place (usually a different country) and mistake something there for something familiar back home.
Also, these mushrooms can apparently concentrate Arsenic when it is present in the soil, so that may also be a problem.
@@AtomicShrimp I know the arsenic can be tested. Probably good idea to research the area and get as much info as possible. Thanks again and I like your videos 😊
lovely moss on the trees
very pretty mushroom, sadly almost every mushroom gives me a massive headache. almost looks like candy. keep up the great videos, also you can use the back of a frying fan for thin crepes if you want. you just dip the batter on or spread it quickly. cooks in seconds
I'm not a big mushroom eater but this looks delicious. Might have to replace a few of the mushrooms with spinach but the crepe looks perfect
